Your "red flags" are what gives our generation a bad name. Seriously, be grateful you're getting paid top money to put together a few PPT slides on your expensive laptop in your state of the art office, while having dinner expensed. Snowflake.
Could totally relate to the last 2 points. Overselling yourself works way more than actually doing the work💔 Also managers throwing junior resources under the bus to compensate for their lack of planning😐
I'm a Lawyer and left a commercial law firm and went into public sector thinking that would be better. Lol big mistake! The environment was still toxic, pay much less and I was still working really long hrs. I dunno Ive gone back to the drawing board to figure out my next move.
The biggest 🚩I’ve seen is being told “this is just the way things are done here”! Meaning thereby that you’re too small to change anything, just do as you’re told.
My big red flag is when you don't get your salary on time, and your boss is like "it's about the company vision" and then proceed to say how I only care for the money.
Red Flag 5 though hahaha🚩It's crazy to wear long hours, stress, and sleep deprivation as a badge of honor.🤯 Happier people are *scientifically* more productive, I wish more people got that a smile and a relaxed, confident demeanour at work is a MUCH better look than misery 😉
Sounds like UK corporate life has a lot of similarities to the US. I worked in Big 4 audit in America and I saw pretty much all the red flags you noted here.
They're very similar. Biggest difference I'd say is the expectations around overtime, sick leave and holiday. Overtime here isn't normally that "expected" without compensation. So excessive overtime is normally a big red flag here, as is being flagged for taking sick leave or holiday. (Within reason).
I declined a third interview that the recruiter in my company set me up for because the week was hectic. She reached out on slack and I told her I feel overwhelmed and I can't do more than two in a week. She pretended to be all ok and it's not a big deal she just wanted to ask but then two minutes later my manager messages me asking why I don't want to do more interviews. I felt back stabbed. I still work at the same company though because I think my org isn't toxic but HR org is toxic like that so I rarely have to deal with the BS.
Sorry for my rant. For me it’s always colleague’s dumping work and dogging responsibility Iworked in a shitty company and the company culture was complaints ! Do a mistake a person will send an email and copy everyone on this planet ! Sometimes I see people use Email as guns and CCing as bullets ! Ping pong email fights with 10+ on CC. Such a shame ! I quit that company !! 2) I worked in a company where my boss told some folks if we go for a coffee, lunch break or leave for a day. We should leave a teams message to her. And if anyone is shown ideal more than 15 mins on teams we need to explain. This was in a big MNC. It all depends on managers sometimes. So even if we don’t have any meetings or done for Friday we will just sit keep shaking the mouse and wait for 5pm.
So for me , we are a team of 8 in compliance i had taken 2 days off during busy season for sickness buy after i was back and few days later i was put for a 10 hour shift excluding all 6 except me and when i discussed this with a person who joined w me he told every body has their days i guess chill But how can I when it's out there
Jay Shetty has a neck tattoo and he used to work for Accenture lol but yeah know what you mean, there are many many things that are frowned upon but the one that makes me the most angry is how and why salaries are such a bad thing to discuss. I also hate how there is so much BS on LinkedIn and then people thinking that’s the norm like people saying you should never have a career gap on your CV lol
Frustrates me too! I think you gotta be the change you wanna see so with salaries I openly discuss them with my peers! The first time I did it I explained the benefit of doing it lol and now people do in my firm. The LinkedIn thing omgggg I don't even log on there now cause it's all BS
@@KajolPhadnis wow that’s amazing, how did you convince your colleagues to share salary? Was your manager okay with everyone knowing? And how did you ask for a pay rise if you were earning below the rest of the team? It would be soo cool if you could make a vid on this
Really bizarre hearing about this corporate culture - working at a tech company, none of this presenteeism, clothing consciousness, etc is present. So pointless.
So good to hear! Not saying all corporate culture is like this but these red flags are often experienced by people in the City m. Even people in non corporates as well tbh
I'm a SWE and I've seen a bit of that. But most of those companies struggle to hang onto people because the job market is so pro-employee in the tech world in the UK right now
I feel that corporate culture is rly not casual in the sense that they encourage u to be fun & expressive but u still need to filter through ur words. Also makes everyone seems rly boring in the workplace… like ppl only eat salads or have exercise as a hobby thats so boring?? Why does everyone end up that way
To be honest, I find the corporate culture a piece of garbage in industries like oil n gas. I can't comment on other industries. Half the time they think you are fools n other times they politics, groupism. I find the entire scenario disgusting. My impression about what london work life could be, has been shattered by the way the corporate global companies look into employees.
Similar experience in London with 4 companies, working as technology project manager. I survived London terror attack of 2005. The bullying is still haunting me after 15 years.
Good video. Some of what you say is applicable for most firms. Some like having to always look stressed depends on firm to firm. With regards to changing accent etc yeah these little things change people perception of the person than the content. However, it is true think about when you meet someone new, most of the time you may have made a quick judgement on them in 5s which may be reassessed if you speak to them longer or more info becomes available. Just how it is.
@@KajolPhadnis okay thank you. And what if I've done M.tech and still a fresher with 6years of career gap due to family issues. Haha same, I’ve been here for about 2 years. I can’t pinpoint how or when I subscribed but I’m glad that I did because you taught me more about Deloitte than the intranet! 😅 Bham and London office.

If I have to act like an extrovert to get promoted it will be my villain origin story, let me produce good work in peace 😩
Tell me about it....need to start talking to people about promo from Manager level imo

Not every manager is like that - most of them aren't. It says more about the person than the firm, need to find a good team around you
