    The thing with business schools, is that a lot of them are sort of regional. I looked into LBS, and a lot of the recruiters are local to the UK. Ie. businesses in the Canary Wharf area. I guess the upside is that many of them have international locations, so maybe it's not that big a deal. If you moved back to the United States, however, I don't know if many companies would recognize the name of any UK schools beyond Cambridge and Oxford.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you work in the US now? How was your search for consulting jobs in the US after graduating from a UK institution (networking/ interviews)? Did you want to work in UK but changed the course to the US?

    • @bykchoi
      @bykchoi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes I work in the US now! I initially wanted to work in the UK but applied to jobs in both the US and UK. I quickly realized it would be more difficult to work in the UK/get a visa, that I would get paid more in the US, and I wanted to be back in the States and closer to family, so I switched course. The MSc Management degree is not super well-known in the US, so I think me living in London for a year was actually a bigger talking/selling point 😂 but the degree just fit into my overall story of how and why I was switching from PR into consulting.

      I didn’t apply to LSE’s management program because from what I remember it’s 2 years instead of 1. My entire class at UCL was 220, but we were split into the 2 routes I mentioned, so I had the same module requirements as about 100. Then we were split into 2 groups for lectures (because of the size of the lecture hall), so my actually lecture/class size was about 50! Good luck! :))

    Is there a specific reason that you chose this program and university over a regular master programs that are offer at the universities in the US that are also accredited? It just sounds like a risky investment to go for such degree not knowing if the quality of the education is decent and it's not widely recognized globally.

    • @bykchoi
      @bykchoi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Main reasons were time and money. Master’s degrees in the US are usually 2 years and ~$50K a year. Programs in the UK are 1 year and mine was £24K. And I wanted to have the experience of living abroad for a year. It was definitely somewhat of a risk but it’s all in how you package and explain it to future employers, and how it fits into your own career journey/story!

      I lived between Angel/Barbican stations so closer to the main UCL campus. I didn’t have classes at main campus but I used the libraries a lot during my third term when I worked on my dissertation. It’s totally up to you where you want to live based on how much you want to commute to class vs how much you want to be more central in London vs what kind of neighborhood you want :)

    How old are you? Are you wearing braces? I thought that was something you get when you are like 7 years old. I guess you could use the excuse that you are a recent immigrant to the US, but I lived in Seoul for over a year, and well, dentists offices there are a dime a dozen. Some of them are pretty damn upscale too, so I'm sure there were specialists.

    • @bykchoi
      @bykchoi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You usually get them as a teen (don’t know if you even have all of your adult teeth in at 7?). I had to get them for various reasons other than straightening my teeth. I did a video on it during Vlogmas.

    • @bgates275
      @bgates275 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watched the Vlog. Okay I get it. It was complicated because life is complicated. There's a good reason why dentists can charge what they do. Plenty of math and science involved.
