YES! Saving another old tool - and it's forged! Even re-using old wood handles! And still to be used, not just displayed. Perfect! It is absolutely beautiful. Well done, Lilly!!
It looks great Lilly. Probably was high quality initially. An old gardener once advised to store toolsbin a bucket of sand with oil - they don't rust, the sand cleans & sharpens them & you always know where they are.
I would use boiled linseed oil. It is available at most hardware/paint stores in the US. In Austria it should be common. It is the oil from flax. It has been used for wood finishing for many centuries.
Nice work. I'm guessing the paint was an afterthought - as it would have been easier to do before you fitted the handle :-) Turned out very well though, and makes it easy to find ...

Good job, I remember watching my dad do the same. Nothing was thrown out, all was repaired. 🙂
Great job lilly. I think i would put a preservative on the handle, perhaps lindseed oil. Your looking good lady. ❤ from Texas
Awesome job on the restoration... You are blessed with many skills... LG Canada
That's one to hang on the wall as a museum piece, it looks great
Looks good ! Nice to use it where it's needed!
Awesome job.hi from Australia love your vids 👍
You want to soak some boiled linseed oil into the handle Lilly. It will protect it and make it more springy/less likely to crack.
everyone needs a good one... good job lilly
Great job. Consider, perhaps, puting a light oil finish on the handle.

If you 1st put a coat of white primer the red would've popped up really nice and oiled the handle maybe a mix of beeswax and boiled linseed oil🤔
Spam Musubi always prime!
Wire wheel off the rust by the end where the handle attaches and just use it, the dirt will abrade off any other rust over time.
Top 😀
