I love this video! I couldn’t bring myself to do all those things because just thinking about them sucked the energy out of me. Peace of mind is worth everything.
This is such a relief! I have been trying to come up with a streamlined system for building my truban audience while I finish writing and editing my book. I can change how I do things to get more mileage but social media marketing is torture for me and not how I want to spend my time, but it seems necessary to promote and build interest. as an unknown debut author.
I so totally get this, and I hear it from a lot of writers when I teach, coach, or edit. It all gets to be too much. So no wonder I was asked to teach a workshop last March on writer's overwhelm!😆
@@nonsensefreeeditor and it's not just indie authors. I'm hearing from trad and hybrid as well, especially since much of the marketing is now on the author's shoulders.
I wanna quit because it takes money to make money, I can’t afford to advertise, and I get maybe 3 sells a month. I am over it tbh. I get great reviews from my readers but the prob is getting it out to more people and that costs money. Social media only goes so far… 😢 I cant make money without sales but i cant make sales without money and paid advertising
That is exactly why I started the side-hustle in the first place... to fund ads and all the expenses that come with a launch. Check out my newest video, which talks about exactly this. So many authors are in the same boat and there are several ways to get the funds needed to keep the author dream alive!
I tried to subscribe to Serial Journeys and it asked me to enter a CC for various levels of support. Is there a secret side door into the kitchen? I know that's where all the magic happens 🤩
Hmmm you should be able to subscribe for free. If it shows you various levels to subscribe to, one should be free or “no thanks” or something like that
@@nonsensefreeeditor It did, it just led to a page that didn't make it obvious it had gone through, and held only paid options. Way to go, Substack. *eye roll* lol
Truth! Also, side note: you have a gigantic printer behind you. I recently got rid of mine (broke down) and am wondering if I should get another... how often do you use it?? #fomo
I was like that. Now I just want to write and do marketing occasionally. The most important part is the writing and having fun with it.
Absolutely. It’s the writing that we’re all here for. That should come first

So true. I wish I had had your foresight instead of running myself ragged in the first place
@@nonsensefreeeditor I admire your bravery! 💖Like you said, how will you know if you don't try?
All Hail the Reading Cardi!! Yes, we *have* tried *all* the things.

I hear you. It definitely feels like torture when you’re getting no traction. Reducing my presence to the places that work best for me is a relief

Yes, it seems that indie authors at every level are susceptible to burnout. Its so much for one person!

I don’t use it often but I use printable templates for my planner. So once a quarter it gets used a lot… maybe not so much inbetween 😆
Good video, one of your most poignant in a while. It takes courage to admit things need to change. 🙂
We’re all about keeping it real 😁

Yay I'm a fan of scifi, I'll read your books, I hope one is a thriller or horror.
The black magic series is definitely suspenseful so that might be up your alley:
