    Matt, I grew up wanting to play pro soccer but its financial complexities took a toll on my parents. Watching you live the dream, ups and downs and everything, is beyond inspiring, let alone your earnest passion and love for the rollercoaster.. To think that you make this content for free... I'm convinced at least one player of the next generation of US National Team soccer will have had their wheels greased by you. Thank you for all you do.

    Small detail, but during the 90 degree passing combination drill the two professional players (Matt and Andrew) check their shoulder multiple times before receiving the second pass while the collegiate player yet to go pro (Rafa) keeps his eye on the ball the whole time. Small detail, big difference. I'm sure as Rafa progresses he'll build this habit and I wish them all the best in their careers!

    This format is really really good Matt, I like it a lot. Watching very similar drills over and over can get kinda boring and repetitive imo. The first few times, I go "oh I should try something like that" (because all your drills are very easy to comprehend but also extremely fun and useful!), but after a while theres not much more too it. The QnAs are extremely insightful though, and the more questions the better! It also breaks up the monotony of half an hour of drills, really good stuff in this video!

      I don’t know if you’ll reply to this but 3 years ago I started to play football and it basically helped me get through a lot in life, I’ve grown into a last resort fullback to a winger who could score 20+ goals this year and it’s my dream to go pro. Do you have any tips on how to structure training sessions like a professional, how to improve as a player and what scouts will usually look for in players?

    Great answers to questions about early exposure to a variety of sports. I have watched kids of all levels grow in both soccer and wrestling from pre-school to college. Some of the kids who were “great” in kindergarten maintained that passion, but most went through ups and downs. Some of it was physical because kids mature at different rates, but most was mental. Parents can’t guilt their kids into greatness or wish their kids into greatness. At best, they can push their kids into high level mediocrity. Without the inner passion, nobody learns fast enough, and even if they have the inner passion for something, the odds of becoming pro or even a high level youth player are still slim. Most parents should encourage but allow the player to own the experience. Even when they say that they want a higher level of play, challenge them on it. Don’t just drive them to the tryouts for that better team. Save your money until it becomes glaringly obvious that they don’t fit at their current level. And if it is not glaringly obvious, then don’t encourage the move up.

    I love your opinion on coaches that haven’t played professionally. You look at some managers who have played at the highest level (rooney, lampard, etc.) and they are not good coaches. Coaching is teaching. Playing is learning/playing. Yes experience helps but I think the federations need to rethink this aspect of our game. You’re not automatically a good coach (especially a top level coach) because you played professionally. Glad to hear that some pros think the same as me! Cheers!

After all that I just don't have any time for additional training which makes me feel bad. No if your talented dont give up find your position where your best position is on the pitch .. and drill watch the greats practice i no guys that made it now have a few million in the bank .. and honestly they weren't anything special at school 13 14yr old but they were fit strong fearless aggressive and always had a ball was always practicing. . He ended up at Derby became pro was a solid fit no nonsense cb but at school there were kids teens more talented than him he wasn't the most skillful but he didn't like loosing was 100% dedicated but iv seen better players at end of his career he was still getting 15k playing in India but had played at a high level prem to championship in England and earned 40k aweek but out of guys who made it at 14 id never have picked him over others but he had a great career just retired 35 after India 🇮🇳 but keep going he found his attributes not most skillful technical but fit strong .. Will to win no fear and would run through a wall if his manager told him solid cb made a great living out the game just sheer dedication got him there he wasn't a special talent iv seen them and the picked women and clubs and alcohol and it stopped there progression played 3rd division to junior football but with dedication had the talent to play at the top .. find your position master it best you can

    I want to ask a question In the gym, I can record weights and reps, which gives me the opportunity to measure my progress But on the field and in football training, I cannot imagine myself while playing or practicing, and this does not allow me to know whether I am progressing or whether my level remains constant?

    • @herminiojr
      @herminiojr 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here are two good ways to measure. 1) Are you succeeding in actions/plays more often? Doesn’t matter what the action is, whether it is scoring more, completing more passes, winning the ball more. Further, the “more” can also be pinpointed to ‘more’ accuracy/power in your goals, ‘more’ passing to the teammates’ correct foot, & ‘more’ anticipation when defending.
      2) Are you unlocking new decisions when playing? I don’t mean unlocking new 5 star skills. But for example, when you’re playing, in those 1-2 seconds before receiving a ball, are your ideas of what you could do expanding? Are you preparing what you’re gonna do earlier and earlier?
      If you are succeeding more, and then trying more and more high level things, and then beginning to succeed at those- that is a sign you are getting better.

So I’ve had to learn on the fly to support him in ways which I would not if he preferred sports I had great knowledge and experience in having played. Here’s a question I don’t know the answer but very much like to know:
    My kid is left-footed. I know being a lefty can provide greater opportunities or be quite limiting depending on the sport or position played in a sport. Is being left footed a selling point in soccer? Do clubs strive to have some lefty representation? What is the typical right/left breakdown on a club? Do they primarily play on one side of the pitch or another? Thanks

    • @_corsaire
      @_corsaire 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i’m obviously not matt, but clubs will usually tend to have only good left footed players as having a different mechanic from everyone else sets them apart through technique, visual skill and they are forced to adapt to read play more effectively and efficiently because they are different. so if you and your son train to the maximum and all, he could definitely be scouted

    Heres something i would be interested to know. Personality is talked about a lot in the senior game. My son has always been very determined and serious with his football. Part came from me and part is just his attitude. It makes him unpopular with his team mates who dont like his intensity in training especially with tackling. Hes not a dirty player, i would never allow my son to hurt people on purpose but he fights for everything. Coaches tend to appreciate it more than his teammates. In America is this a common type of player in youth academies? If they are the minority how do they deal with fitting in/making friends/enjoying their football.
    My boy can find himself isolated in teams because its very much the minority in Australia.

      Hey I do not have anything that can directly help his situation.
      I just want to say growing up playing soccer in the US I was always the most intense and serious player which my teammates didn't like. I can relate a lot to him and let him know he's not the only one. Sadly I don't currently have anything that he can do to fit in better because I never knew what to do either.
      What I will do for you guys is I will do some research and spend some time thinking about it. And I will also reach out to some high level players and see what they think could help.

    Would you sign with a european club? It's seems that MLS is too high level for you, would an europa conference league chase be something you're interested in?

      Matt doesn’t have an European/EU passport so he would count against the foreign player quota. He could play in Europa Conference League but it would have to be for a very low ranking club in Eastern Europe. His current league (2nd division in the US) isn’t that highly rated and no Western European club would scout his club.

    Almost think it would be worth trying to get to a lower european league

    You had a chance in your early 20s but the problem is that when you don't get into the MLS at that age, then you fall behind because you begin to develop with the guys in the lower leagues, whilst 16-20 year old boys are making their way into the MLS training squads. I'm pretty sure you had the potential in your younger days but I think you just got unlucky and your journey became more of a TH-camr that gives training tips rather than an actual professional in the MLS or maybe even a higher league.

    The true answer why you are not scouted by any MLS team is because YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY IN MLS😂
    Stop calling yourself pro football player when your playing level is lower than the U-14 Premier League Clubs.
    MLS level is like the 5th tier in English League hierarchy 😂

      Matt’s made a video comparing the English football pyramid to the US football pyramid. I agree with his statement that quality of MLS clubs vary between that of the Championship and League 1. Daryl Dike (an American national team player) went on loan to Barnsley after 2 years in MLS and scored 9 goals in 6 months. MLS isn’t the best league out there but it’s nowhere near the worst league in the world.
