  • Finally got this shadow wrapped up! Glad all the fab is done and the owner can get her ready just in time for summer. Time to get back to the Panheads!

    There are actually tons of those Sportster style peanut tanks made for those VLX 600 shadows on ebay and Amazon for around $200 bucks. TJ Brutal makes a nice one too for around $300 on sale but it comes with a petcock, cap and side tube. The ebay and Amazon ones come in 2 styles. One sits on top of frame, one sinks it down a little with a tunnel. Both direct bolt on. That said, you did a great job making that tank. You have serious welding and craftsman skills.

      That said, overall there are not really enough parts made for those bikes. I am currently bobbing two, a 2002 and 2005 and everything so far I have ordered for it that says it fits has required endless hours of fabbing and drilling and cutting etc etc. But that is bobber building, especially if it is not a Harley where tons of shit is made for true bolt on.

      Yah thats true, your right though about every piece having to be re fitted and made to work. The guys who build them should get alot more recognition because there actually making a lot of the parts!

      Nice! Surprised they don't make more options for these though! Pretty slim pickings !

    That's an amazing build! You're one heck of a fabricator! You brought up a point which I've wondered about for decades -- more aftermarket parts should be available for metric chopper builds. I'd like to see someone build a NorCal styled chopper out of a Yammie Bolt -- a heavily-reworked and "frisco"-mounted Sporty tank, a mild fork extension, fork gators, Flanders #1 bars, Anderson "jackhammer" bar grips, a tuck n rolled cobra seat, et al. Build right. Ride safe.

      Thanks Walter! Yah its crazy how scarce the aftermarket parts are for these. Might be a good niche to get into! I agree, if someone sends me a Yamaha bolt im more than game!

    You've done a great job mate and you're obviously extremely skilled but in my opinion ( and it is only my opinion) the tank is to far back looks a little strange or maybe its just the shape of it but yer apart from that the bikes looking good 👍 great work

      Perhaps the forks would hit the tank when turning if it was more forward.

    What did the tanks volume end up being?

    • @houseofchoppers
      @houseofchoppers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't bother checking the completed volume but it lost less than I thought. When I re tunneled it it took out entire inset for the backbone of the bike so I gained that back. I would assume started with 2.5ish and not around 2.1 or 2.2 gallon. Thanks!

    Tank is too far back for sure. Why not just do a single straight backbone? Would've been way easier. You certainly have a lot of skill dude. Not knocking you, just wondering..
