The Worst Illumination Characters (and Why they Suck)
While their movies make millions - sometimes even billions - at the box office and their characters are known around the globe, some of Illumination’s characters are more infamous than actually loved. Some characters are hated for being annoying or frustrating, others are just totally lame, and others are just seen as terrible people that can’t even be enjoyed in a ‘love to hate them’ sort of way. Today, we’re going to break these characters down and see what exactly makes them so darn dislikable.

Snowball? From what I heard lots of people loved him. Sure he can be loud but not intimidating? He threatened to scar Max with a snake or when they wouldn't let him inside to the lost pets he choked the snakes out, and kicked a animal catcher across the face! I'd call that pretty brave for a Fluffy bunny. Far as the minions go i blame over marketing. Only time they ever took over I'll say was in Despicable 3 and minions . Dru and Gunter never really bothered me either though. He's a sweet dude. Agree with the others though

The minions were great up until Despicable Me 2, and the Minions movie. They started to get annoying in Despicable Me 3, and you're right it's only so much that a character can be funny until it just becomes ironically annoying. I always remember the minions before Despicable Me 3, and to me personally they're great funny banana loving sidekicks for the Despicable Me franchise.💛💙🍌🖤

Gunter did not need to be on this list at all!! He was one of my favorite character in the film and he’s the reason the 2nd movie’s plot went forward

While Minions are used for comic relief, they can also be for heartwarming moments. Some minions have their own personalities from tall leader minions, one eyed teenage minions and childish small minions. Kevin was a leader and also a big brother to Stuart and Bob. Stuart is the teenager and aspiring rock star. Bob is the baby minion, very childish and having an unconditional love for everyone and everything. Otto is an easily distracted childish minion, who has the mindset of a child and a non stop motor mouth. Dave, a notable minion is the playful childish type, always mischievous and wanting to have fun. Then there are evil minions such Tim, who shown in merchandise is menacing looking and Mel, the absolute evil minion who is basically Dr Nefario as a minion, wanting Gru to return to evil. Who knows what plans this minion had in store if Gru returned back to evil? So Minions aren’t just comic relief, they can be fleshed out characters and we can learn about them and their motives as the movies progress.
Only those minions are important though

@JeremyLegend23 Plus there the studios logo, you can't spell Illumination's without the Minions. For better and worse you can use these little guys for more than just comedy.
I don't feel bad for them though. Their characters are as simple as characters can get, and I just don't care about them

Because they liked him and turns out the Viscious 6 betrayed him anyway. Sometimes people or creatures lose sight of what's really important. Kinda like how Gru was planning on abandoning them during Rise.
I like Balthazar bratt I think he's one of my favorite villains because of his unique way of fighting and he's a 80s theme villain and I love everything 80s related and Mike was my favorite character in the Original sing movie

God I remember just LOATHING the Onceler every time he was on screen. He was just downright freaking annoying and it honestly felt like the movie was trying too hard to make the audience relate to him.

And this is what worries me for the Mario movie. Illumination is the most hit or miss studio. I can't forgive them for botching up the Once-Ler so bad. And the concept it originally had was honestly pretty darn good. He could still have been relatable, but also the moment he started to get more and more prideful and not pull "oh I didn't know how much damage I've done". That's the most infuriating part is that we had a absolute bomb of a song with Biggering
Absolutely. Though, I’m optimistic because they’re making pretty deep cuts from the Mario lore so I’m confident that these writers actually care about the source material

I think Mike should've been ranked higher. He's rude and selfish. He was only in the show for the money. He rudely pushes Meena off the stage and tells her to get useless. For a small mouse, Mike is a big jerk.

I will be honest, I was completely and utterly put off watching the movie "Hop" after seeing *one* trailer that I never even watched the movie. Seeing E.B.'s character breakdown here I'm glad I didn't waste my time with it.

Klaus Kickenklober (Sing 2)
This proboscis monkey is my least favorite character in the Sing franchise. He a massive jerk to Johnny throughout the second movie, not only abusing him both verbally and physically, but also trying to upstage him during his Sky Full Of Stars performance and telling him he’ll “Never be great.” And yes, he does show a bit of respect once he’s defeated, but that does not excuse him for his actions.

Speaking of Illumination you should do secret life of pets 1 & 2 good to evil
O'hare and once-ler are by far my favorite Lorax characters
They are my favorite corporate portrayals in animation because they are opposites in most ways
They both align in greedy but diverge in success and failure.
The once-lee falls and o'hare rises.
Once-ler runs out of resources and actually see's the world around him collapse. Leading him to voluntarily exile himself and possibly because of this finds one final seed keeping it to see if he can reforrest. Which does happen since the lorax returns.
O'hare picks up where once-ler leaft off with a much more renewable and needed product, how ever this does lead to his ego becoming to big to sustain and eventually he falters rather than use this as a way to profit more on publicity, insert he isn't adaptive instead puting his eggs in only one basket, like the once-ler did but he never adapted even when witnessing the down fall.
One grows and learns one grows and never learns leading to an abrupt halt.
how EB's the worst one of the group, he deserves better cause he's a hero.
Imagine if every single minions were EB’s instead, they’d be worse than the Rabbids…
I don't compare Illumination's Grinch to the Jim Carrey version, though that would have been enough to show how badly Illumination dropped the ball. I compare him to the Chuck Jones/ Boris Karloff Grinch, at which point he stops being merely annoying and becomes an absolute abomination.
