    Justice for McKay!!!! They could've explored his "friendship" with Nate, why he even put up with a guy that belittled him as a man (tie that back to his sexual assault in S1 & him allowing it, muah- continuity✨️) and his reaction to Cassie and Nate. Shit, that itself could've served as motivation in football and rise up, or lead him to a downward spiral and flunk out of college, where he now has to struggle and deal with the pressure of being a failure- as an athlete, as a boyfriend, as a son, and as a man.

    Kat started out as a fully fleshed character with real issues and in the second season they ignored everything they'd built up and vaguely hinted at her being unsatisfied in her relationship with Ethan just to end it.
    The second season fully haulted characters development and storylines to fill with scenes of Cassie and Nate and Elliot. It was just a mess.

      Agreed. Kat was a great character learning to love who she was because she deals with inner hate. She embraced her body and sexuality in S1 and then became basically a secondary character and Lexi is a very jealous little bitch.

    Now Barbie has quit the show. If the rumors are true I understand her not liking the ED storyline. Why focus on her weight and write her character as any other teenager on the show dealing with dating, family school, sex etc. It's one of my pet peeves when a tv show has overweight characters and eventually there is the "lets go on a diet story line" It's so over done.

      honestly.. i’m happy they’re not going to be able to twist kats character into complete darkness … i feel like her story line went way to fast for ‘ the girl coming out of her shell ‘ trope. i loved the idea of a character that grew up online and is having to adjust to high school society. they should’ve just let her be a breath of fresh air for the audience, not fucking her life up every five seconds just like every other character. it just makes me wonder how dark the next season was supposed to be.. the show still has to cover BB’s teenage pregnancy and abortion or miscarriage.

    Guilt should be shown through behavior, not words. Not just in real life but in writing and tv. We didn’t need to see Cassie cry and knives be hidden from a character who was never shown to SI. Also, Maddy would’ve been kicked off the cheerleading team right along with Cassie for their outbursts lol

    • @soniaiboyako4023
      @soniaiboyako4023 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      tbf you don't have to have a history of SI related to knives to have that be your theoretical go-to method. that being said in season 1 it was mentioned that she's been put in that mental space before (because of the sexual abuse, the leaks and everything that goes w that). i do agree that that didn't need to happen tho, let alone if they were gonna play it for laughs and make it so we're meant to point and laugh at Cassie

      @@Dizzydollie7 Oh yeah for sure. I think it's actually pretty obvious that almost everyone on the show was (re)written to make Cassie the butt of the joke - including her, even from E01 to E02 which is kinda wild. Since you mentioned her a simple exemple would be their mom, in S01 she was all up in her business, worried about a possible pregnancy etc. but now she couldn't care less who Cassie is stuck dating (and that it's certified abuser Nate of all people?), like now her daytime tv program is more important than her suicidal daughter?... right. Great essay! Agree with everything you said about Kat, I was invested in her story in season 1, but they absolutely did her dirty in season 2.
    Underdeveloped is what I'd describe this season. Interesting ideas, but ultimately bad execution. It feels like there wasn't enough time in the writer's room or maybe Sam just needs more writers (maybe let Hunter write some episodes). These storylines, if more time was given to the writing, could've been something interesting, but unfortunately lead to a disappointing season. Here's to hoping season 3 fixes some of the problems that season 2 created.

  • @julz3tt3
    @julz3tt3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    Why did they have to ruin Cassies character like that? Maddy too. They didn't delve fully into his sexuality but they did do something with his Dad for some reason. Elliot didn't need to be there really. Jules is selfish and Hunter is a fantastic actor/writer but the actions of Jules in s2 were cruel and self driven. It's sad how the show is promoting female violence with Maddy being encouraged to beat Cassie her ex best friend because she had sex with Nate when Maddy was broken up with him. Then Nate double crossed both girls and he's not the one to blame? Again promoting female hatred and toxic masculinity.
    Kat and Fezco were the two best characters. Kat tried to find self love and she also had the online fetish site where she did things for pay with older men. Her Character was getting stronger, sexier and self aware but season two turns her into a minor supporting act.
    Cassie was used and treated like shit by Nate and he's the ultimate asshole who objectifies women and picks on Females with low self worth. Sydney Sweeney deserved better. Zendeya held the show with her acting. Very interesting and relatable aswell. She missed her Dad and it was very haunting to see Her in the grips of relapses and dream sequences. When she's hugging her Dad while high....it's very tear jerking and I relate as someone who chose drugs for awhile to push away the sadness of losing my Husband sux years ago.
    The girls often look like they're enduring sex and not enjoying it.
    Ashtrays death was sad and Fez and Lexi could have been a great plot point. I agree with you. Ali is the best and most underused underrated character. Nothing happened when Rue admitted to Lori she didn't have the money or suit case and it was set up to look like she was going to be used as a sex worket to pay off her debt with Lori as the Madam in charge of Rue. So she gets the Morphine in her arm and presumably gets better???? Nothing else happens after that? Where are the consequences of Rues actions and addiction?

      right? at least everyone that was groomed/in an abusive relationship at such a young age. or maybe that‘s just my borderline, that i fully commit to one person and even in my head they just have that much power over me bc i have feelings for them. but i get the point that in season 2 this whole "i belong to you“ was romanticized with cassie saying that she loves to be treated like that which i have to say was very disturbing to hear bc it‘s hell when you‘re in a relationship like this at 17

      @@jalen.0609 The thing is you recognize that it was a grooming/abusive relationship, most people don't even do that much. The context aside i found it even more disturbing given that most of her (rare) spats w McKay came up when he tried to control her one way or another (tried to choke her during sex without asking, told her to change her clothes, took his humiliation/frustration/anger out on her, would use her "past" against her while pretending to not be that guy etc.). I think there was an effort to portray her as undeserving of compassion and love bc she "wants it" or is "asking for it", and what confirmed this for me was them having Rue say that Cassie "wasn't that drunk" during NYE... which not only literally isn't true, but even in-universe Rue would not know the first thing about it as she barely even saw her that night but we move

      how are you gonna say this when Nate barely gets flack in-universe, Fez is presented as sympathetic, Ethan is great, McKay was portrayed as a nice guy (especially compared to Nate) etc. and the woman that season was mainly focused on was painted as a hysterical worthless slut that should be mocked w glee? like be fr

    Honestly there’s sssssssssoooooooooo much for me to say about euphorias writing ✍🏽, character development particularly Kat, and Cassie’s character that I want to SCREAM from a mountain top that is just blatantly wrong, and Mcade is only in 1 episode 🙄🙄 why 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️? I really appreciate your point of view and agree with a lot of what you say. I am praying 🙏🏽 the writing improves tremendously next season but time will tell. Also Sydney has come off as a huge cry baby 😭 complaining about her pay on the show, Isn’t lack of money an issue Jussie Smollet had before he was the victim of a “hate crime”. I literally can’t stand her this season. Thank you for a well produced well articulated arguments you had about every point. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
