Hey guys. Great video. Anglers like you need to be recognized. You guys are happy to just be fishing and living in the moment as opposed to so serious and intense. I live in Idaho and would fish with you guys any day. Keep throwing boys!
The barbless hooks are a great idea. And i love that you guys repect the aina and keep the breeding stock alive. More fishermen need to learn from this clean up better than you left it and take only what YOU need. Hope to meet up with yall when i make it out to napoopoo
So awesome! spent the last week fishing in Oahu, love it. couldn't hook any papio despite lots of whipping, did catch a bunch of wrasse, cornetfish, etc. Tight lines!
You guys do a great job! Thanks for sharing. I did this same type of fishing near Pahala in 2014. can't wait to get back there again some day. From Dan Diego, CA Mahalo!
Aloha! I use them for whipping style leads. The main plus is that they sink much more slow and allow you more play in the speed you retrieve your line, without worrying as much about getting stuck in the rocks.
I love to fish! The saying goes: "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time." I bring a bag with me to the beach to walk and "take" garbage. I live in Michigan and we are surrounded by water and my mom lives in the Keys and I visit every winter. Can't wait to visit your heavenly home! My husband and I will be there February 26th through March 5th. If you see a white lady picking up trash, that will be me. Aloha!
What was your set up? I just picked up a 3500 daiwa sweepfire yesterday for my ugly stick pole and i was wondering a good set up for papios, i know the white/red lure from kta or target is cherry but i dont know what is good for my hook. Should i put a lure on or just whip with my cast master??
Mauloa Thompson hey my bradda check out our tips and tricks video and watch the whipping portion some great info on there! hope that will answer any questions you have. If not let us know! chee!
Mauloa Thompson I typically use bright shiny lures like silver and gold grubs aswell as green and red when the water is really shallow with a clear plastic floater. hope that helps a little. cast masters are great if you can find deeper water for them.
Agree completely! The more big boys out there the more big boys we end up with later, to many are being taken out not enough people know that they create so many more offspring as they get larger.
Hey I'm heading to kona next week and am bring a whiping rod and a dunking rod. Plus some big poppers to maybe hook up with a ulua. But my real question is about the best eating fish that isn't going to be harmful to the ecosystem other than the blue strip snappers?
We have black fin snapper too which are grinds. Otherwise menpachi are super good, so are omilu, although I would recommend not nailing the large ones, as they are the breeders, and could have cig. The most tasty of all imo would be mu! SO GOOD. Same thing though, recommend leaving the large ones we more can be born.
Thanks for the info bro! If you are heading out next week and wanna show a mainlander a few tricks hit me up. By the way I'm a chef so at least I could cook you boys a badass meal.
I'm on the plane at 6am mountain time in the morning. Other than a night dive with the mantas I'm free. I'll be there for 10 days. My life is completely going to be about shore fishing.
Pika Manibusan basically any shore line spot is good for catch and release style fishing. all morning and night fishing is a bit more productive. just pick a spot not too sketchy and try it out if not you can always just move 50 yards to the next point and try yeee!
Hello bruddahs! I'm coming to visit Oahu oct 23 can we meeet up ? I'll bring the paka and beer if u can teach me ? How can we make This possible? Keana point I hear is cool what tackle and should I bringem?
I would love to come out fishing with you sometime. I live by Hilo and don’t have much luck fishing lol. I’m a lake fisher from Washington state. I can hook up there but no luck here unless I’m spear fishing. If you would be willing to teach me your black magic fishing techniques maybe a spot to fish or two. I would be so grateful. I never take more then I will eat and always clean up my mess and others. I would love some guidance from some with experience. Please. 👍🤞
I've been doing great man! Been wanting to get back into some sailing soon Maybe I'll get some good catches out sea even though I don't usually get some bites but hey, I can try
Haha he infected for a little bit there that guy. Wait till you see what he fishes with on the next one lmao. Thanks my man glad to be doing it too! Hope to spread the word a little bit on how we can all malama our ocean a little more! :D
the fishings alright.too much tourist and so the water is polluted with them.alot of good spots are closed.theres good days and bad days.guys been catching big uluas on plugs in the kahului harbor while catching akules.but get so much filipinos cause the sugar cane company closed nomore even spot to stand....mauis changed alot for the worse.good luck be safe catchem big......
Sometimes hard for tell, but I'm pretty confident that is a barred papio. Paopao is more golden and the bars go between skinny and fat. Shape kinda different too. Oh and btw faka is ONO! Even da puhi know dat. Haha Poke dat faka!
Thank you for picking up the trash,,Malama the aina,,!!! Puna side

So awesome! spent the last week fishing in Oahu, love it. couldn't hook any papio despite lots of whipping, did catch a bunch of wrasse, cornetfish, etc. Tight lines!
Ah next time! The elusive papio. Things are a great fight. As long as you catch something tho it was a success in my opinion.
Another awesome video. You guys are super entertaining and I am learning a lot about fishing at the same time… Super cool!
Kind words. Thanks brother ☺️
You guys do a great job! Thanks for sharing. I did this same type of fishing near Pahala in 2014. can't wait to get back there again some day. From Dan Diego, CA Mahalo!
Sounds like a solid time that is way out there haha. Thanks for watching!! :D
Thanks for all the love bro🎣💪😎
You gotta move the fish back and forth to move water through its gills. It revives them faster.
Good to know! Got to do some research on the best methods.
You know when the shoes come off it’s getting real 😂😂😂
Lmao 🤣 gotta be one of our best comments of all time.. bus laugh 🤣
Aloha.... Please explain to me ... is the "Hammer Bombs" just use the same as a lead weight... Thank you ahead of time. Mahalo..
Aloha! I use them for whipping style leads. The main plus is that they sink much more slow and allow you more play in the speed you retrieve your line, without worrying as much about getting stuck in the rocks.
Great videos. I'm all about catch and release as well. I'd rather catch more fish tomorrow, nice papio!!
right on my bradda.. much love for that ❤🎣👍🎣🎣🎣 for me.. knowing that big papio is still out there makes me way more stoked then having him for dinner

Mahalo for all the love🎣💪😎 you da man
With a whipping rig with a lead and lure, do I just cast it out then reel???
Yes. Depends where you are, plenty rocks use floater sand bottom use egg lead or weighted swivel lead I think
Nice video. Hawaii looks great from Tennessee!
It is great from here too ;p. I do want to get out your way some time and try out a little fresh water action! Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Oh hurtin lol, got to stay deep in the public waters I guess.

Awesome catch and rare! Btw, what size is your egg lead on that daiwa sweepfire rod?
Damn you guys live on big island... I work down Waikoloa and my wife works at mauna lani

Papio is a smaller omilu not the other way around
What the eel doing so close to the shore??
They are all about it out here, sometimes you will find them just out of the water in the break climbing on rocks.
What bait did y'all use
Had tied flys this day!
Wow! I love watching your videos. Gained a new subscriber from me. I am surprised you don't have more subscribers! Keep them coming!
Judy Lee hey thanks so much it means alot (: we have alot more content to come!
Mahalo nui loa! With more awesome support like this, one day ;D
What's a good lure/bait to use for papio?
Whipping grubs all the way my man! Or home made flys ;D
Shaka Fishing thanks man!
Hello I’m visiting the big island in May where is this
Puedo pescar para comer o no
screamah! nice one on the hand tied lure too, that must have felt so rewarding.
It was pretty unreal! I am definitely hooked on tying flys now looking for a good kit!
Sounds good ill send off an email now!
Donzo
What setup was on your pole?? Weight etc?
Half ounce egg lead to a swivel 5 ft leader 8lb test to a bait holder hook with a gold grub. Goodluck Jeremiah
howd you rig your homemade flylure? :)
A guy taught me how to do them! Super basic with some thread and stuff. I need to get my own fly tying vice so I can make more now.
Shaka Fishing i mean was it a split shot rig with or without bobber? :)
Oh haha it was just a small barrel lead stopped with a swivel then about 8 feet of leader off to the hook!
Shaka Fishing cool. will tag you a photo on Instagram will make a flylure also haha
Bad ass please do so!
Did you guys ever find out the name of the beach?
Dude no!!! Still hunting D:
The links for the dunking amd whipping reels arent working. :(
Mahalo for the heads up! Just fixed the links!
Its great that you guys are promoting catch and release. All breeding size GTs and Bonefish should be released.
Agree completely! The more big boys out there the more big boys we end up with later, to many are being taken out not enough people know that they create so many more offspring as they get larger.
Second that. Many of us do catch and release, barbless, on the mainland when fly fishing for wild native trout species. Way to go!
Glad to hear it! It is a growing thing, once people understand the benefits they are usually game to step it up and keep the big boys out there.
scott yang let um go,let um grow!!! so the kids can enjoy one day. (;

I'm on the plane at 6am mountain time in the morning. Other than a night dive with the mantas I'm free. I'll be there for 10 days. My life is completely going to be about shore fishing.

aloha,
i just moved here from the mainland. where is a good spot to fish without going too far from kona
Pika Manibusan basically any shore line spot is good for catch and release style fishing. all morning and night fishing is a bit more productive. just pick a spot not too sketchy and try it out if not you can always just move 50 yards to the next point and try yeee!
