ryan ayakawa thanks man.. we tried we really did.. it was a difficult spot to revive the fish but it turned into a great meal that fed my ohana. (: thanks for jumping on board with us.
Great videos! Just subscribed. Brings back nice memories, many years ago, me walking/fishing the shoreline most weekends on the Big Island. Good save on the NPS hat! I just completed 25 years with the NPS in Oct. Been a great career. Stay with it and keep posting more videos. Mahalo
Started in Grand Tetons, Wyoming, in '91. Was there 7 years. Then, to the Big Island, working for the Smithsonian on the SMA radio telescope on Mauna Kea. Back to the NPS in 2000 and have been at Canyonlands N.P. in Utah these past 17 years. Grew up on the beaches in San Diego. Love and connected to the ocean. Work has taken me all over on great adventures, far away from the ocean. That said, I've shifted my love of fishing to fresh water at Lake Powell, near here. Have a decent boat and now fish for big Striped Bass, Walleye, large and smallmouth bass, etc. Huge lake with great remote and primitive camping. Awesome! TH-cam has been great to connect fanatic fisherman from all over. Thanks for your video posts!
That snakefishdonkey was huge! PP catching hats too?! Siiickk. Great episode, I like how you let the edit roll through the houndfish landing, really gave a sense of being there wrangling that thing. Ah yeah, def notice that 1080p, not so much on my phone but def on my 60" lcd where I watch all your episodes. Keep slangin!
Keep it all Loki I'm from a small town and all the newby's and college kids ruined all my good spots swim and fish and all that no Instagram no Facebook right on Keep it on the Lolo brother
Great videos. Spent a couple hours watching last night. I am hooked (no pun). My next visit to The Big Island and you have to hook a braddah up. Subscribed.
So the trick to keep the hugging from biting your line all the time, is that you give the huggie lickinz . So i was told that you punch the huggie a few times, and throw um back to the school and they will leave your line alone because he will tell the rest of them. Kind of like moi.
Hey Shaka Fishing! I've always had this in my mind and was wondering what conditions would be best for shoreline fishing in Hawaii, like tide, time, wind, weather, etc? if I you dont mind answering, id be really helpful for me (:
Depends a bit on where you are fishing. I would say your best bet for some easy and fun times is a day where it is as flat as possible. Also try to make it out as early as you can, if you can get out there before the sun gets up it will be well worth the lack of sleep once you see that awesome morning ocean sunrise. Check the tide charts for your local area, and try hit a morning where the tide is low and starting to come back in. This tide is the best for any time really but the morning, or even sunset, is usually when the fish are out and trying to nail some food. Mid day they are typically down deep or hiding from the sun and have already ate in the morning. If you really want to go hard do what we did and pick yourself up a Hawaiian Moon Calendar from here www.pkhcc.com/calendar_moon.html This thing is for real worth every cent, we use it every time we go out basically. If you can always go with either no wind, or off shore wind. On shore wind has a few benefits but I have found the frustration not worth the trade off. :D
Do you guys use wire leader often? I see these in Walmart and fishing stores but not too sure if these are effective since the fish can def see the wire line.
Elias Callejo that is the main problem i find with wire leaders they see them plain as day.. best to go with heavy mono in the day and night for the wire. or you can use it on your lures but it affects the lures action but will protect you from baracuda so its a give and take with wire. sometimes its best not to use it and then sometimes it will save your day lol
D Hall lol. I hear you. I just started fishing because my kids bugged me long enough. I'm kinda hooked now. Stumbled upon your channel and am entertained for sure. Thanks for the reply action. Keep the vids coming. Im a fan. #bigislandboys
Or you can hold the top of the spool point the tip of the pole towards the water and walk backwards and the line will either cut or unstuck, follow me on Ig I slam papios 🤙🏾 @spencer.yamada and @groundroots is my company
didn't quite catch what you said about the Kaku ...I thought you said Heller's Barracude, but that is Kawele'a ..small size Barracuda travels in great big schools catch them with a piece of surgical rubber hose with a hook in it ..you got a Kaku ...I dont't live in Hawaii any more, thats the sad part. Over on the Hilo side we ran into the Kawele'a in Hilo bay good eating fish! You guys are totally OK!!!
Mahalo nui loa! Danny likes to tie a barrel swivel to his main line then run about a foot of 25# to the cast. I do the same but add a snap swivel to the cast master at the end of the leader.
Shaka Fishing eh kapono telling my secrets eh lol bugga i tell you nah nah jk yup that is how i rig mine up and works cherry for me as you can see only thing is the occasional baracude breaks my line yeee!
Zachery Ing i marinated the filets in sesame oil shoyo ginger and alae salt for 20 30 min then floured the buggas flipped um in a hot pan with oil and broke the mouth (;
Lol wow camera man, you no like help the fat boi? “ ooooo I’m out of here” lol but i am J though , On Oahu we no mo fish. Only some spots, and most of north shore.

When ever im feening to fish, always come across your guys vids. Im from the hilo side, would love to fish with solid guys like you. If you guys have time can check my channel out too!!
Just checked it out you got the major jig abilities! We need to learn ourselves we would be super stoked if you could teach us some time! Get a colab video in there!
Shaka Fishing for sure. Would love to fish some kona spots since the water is usually nice. Nothing much to learn about jigging. You just a need some deep spots, a good pole and reel that can bomb and just gotta make sure get plenty line in the reel because usually after the long cast, you will be letting it sink for how ever deep the spot is. Some spots i love to jig at is about 30-50second drops. Would be sweet to do some vids with you folks!!!
Just subscribe you guys are awesome much respect would to gain some local know how coming out in October Wanna fish with a hoely You guys ever Come to Santa Cruz California hook you up Just throwing it out there

I figured out your spot! Don't worry, I live in Cali haha! You gave out too many details!
(said in classic australian accent) crikey mate, its the extremely rare and reclusive hatfish in its natural habitat.
Those are cute barracudas. I once caught a 43lb barracuda in a secret spot in far south kona. I used a live menpachi and slide bait setup.
Great videos. Spent a couple hours watching last night. I am hooked (no pun). My next visit to The Big Island and you have to hook a braddah up. Subscribed.
Haha you got it Braddah just drop us a line when you come! Mahalo for watching and letting us know!! :D
So the trick to keep the hugging from biting your line all the time, is that you give the huggie lickinz . So i was told that you punch the huggie a few times, and throw um back to the school and they will leave your line alone because he will tell the rest of them. Kind of like moi.
I guess you could say that aha asked you to...TAKE ME ON
Nice
Aha! I see what you did there... except He wen say um in dakine pidgin accent: What? you like Take On Me?
Nice name A-ha... Hehehe.we called it tambilawang in southern Mindanao Philippines
If you keep losing your line to barracuda you should go to Kmart and buy 30lb wire
No lie we did that like the next day, same poundage too! lol
What bait were u using?? And can u make a video of how u make a slide bait rig? Mahaloz for da mean videos ma braddah. Subscribed
