- It is crazy what there is to find out in the places that few people get to visit. A jet boat ride on the fraser river is amazing, because you can cover so much territory that is impossible to see any other way. We went out in the boat looking for a completely different story, but finding this house on the hillside was a real treat. I have asked around town, but still have not found the answer to why it was abandoned, or who even owns it. Either way, what a fun place to explore.
The wildfire season is officially here, and dense smoke is just something were going to have to deal with in the coming weeks. I think the air quality will improve when we head north, but for now this is what we will be seeing.

There is a place like this above my cabin in the Rockies. Started....and so close to being finished. Walked away from it about 3 years ago judging from material receipts on the property. I would say a solid 5 days of work would complete the place. The small cabin has a deck that spans a small mountain stream. Wood stove installed, roof completed, just needs flooring and some finish work. I tracked down the land owners. The former wife of the owner responded. Divorce seems to have killed the dream. I asked her to pass a message to her ex. I offered to buy the place OR he could pay me to finish it up.....anything but let it rot. No response.
The place is a paradise...for those without the emotional history. To him, perhaps a horrible reminder of a failed relationship?
Anyway...I thought of that place while I watched this video. Motivated me to reach out one more time.
Hopefully he will return to the project soon or release it to you..💯💪🙏💯🎯💯🤠💪
Good luck,hope you get it.
As a journeyman carpenter who has built one floor ranchers in 14 days... I could make that thing livable in a week.. except for the current wait times in Windows and doors.. 🤷
You should try to find the owner or family of and see if you could get a deal on it ,or finish it and share it for family retreats.
Would love to come out there and check it out I'll hope track him down
Imagine a finished cabin, fall weather, a crisp morning, a strong coffee, a rocking chair, a covered front porch, and that view.
Paradise.
I would never leave a place like that ever. Looks fantastic!
Imagine a finished cabin, fall weather, a crisp morning, a strong coffee, a rocking chair, a covered front porch, a doobie and that view.
Likely the builder had a catastrophic health problem, but - wow! - what a beautiful spot! Thanks for showing us. I always have that inward “let’s finish this” feeling when I see something like this cabin.
Bravo Dustin, you did it again. You turned an equipment failure into an interesting story to ponder. You have me sitting here on a Saturday morning wondering what happened to someone's dream. Keep up the good work. Safe travels
What a shame it didn't get finished. Beautiful spot up there.
Very cool cabin. You'll have to give us a update if you find out why it was abandoned. Thanks for hiking all that way
That would have been beautiful place for the cabin. Will you be showing more of the boat trailer? What was done?
@@michaelwilliams4887I can cover this for sure. Maybe on Wednesday.

This was filmed on private property, the owner is alive and well!
I watched that cabin being built in the early 90's, just when I immigrated to the area coming from Germany. Always wondered who owned it and why it never got finished. The area along the Fraser between McAlister and Soda Creek is just spectacular. Only a few kilometers downstream from the cabin was a reaction ferry that operated until the '90's.The high plateau above the cabin is accessible via the Duckworth Lake Road and offers fantastic views overlooking the Fraser and the old Soda Creek townsite.
Yeah the views are fantastic up there, my bro moved up to the Thompson River Estates, his place sits on the bluff over looking the Thompson River & the CP & CN running along the river. Just gorgeous, especially the sun rises & sets. Just not the view(s) of the rattle snakes that view is aweful. 😂 or the prickly cacti if you aren't looking where you step.
I’m very curious about the story. Such a nice spot.
Crossed that ferry many times Alexandria
Would the person may have not gotten permits? I pass near there every year and never saw that house. Wonder who owns the property.
Gotta be road access to that place looking at store bought trusses and pumped concrete walls
Lots of broken or abandoned dreams in the Cariboo and places where families were raised , then abandoned as families moved on to their own dreams and adventures. Many kids in the Cariboo lived in the middle of nowhere , schooled by correspondence and only came to town for their grade 12. No phones , messages were transferred by am radio on certain days and times. Lots of lost history.
WOW can you imagine sitting on the porch iin the morning drinking your morning coffee in peace and quite "heaven" 🙏🐾🐾
Can't wait for scenery like that again - currently watching from the South Pole station Antarctica (wintering over).
Is this literally where you’re viewing from? If so, this is really amazing to see.
@@Destination_Adventure Sure is. You can Google Mackinac bridge south pole and see some articles about me.
Decided to do this while doing the Great Loop. Love your videos!
I would dig into the property ownership, and see if you could purchase it.
BUY IT DUSTIN!!!! It would be sooooooooo cool to see your channel expand into a second offshoot to fix this place up and make it your dream!. It's stunning!
I am a Realtor and I can search the title for you to find out who owns it if you really want to.
WOW! Dustin it would be great if you found out who it belongs too and even better if you took it off their hands and finished it off! Now that would be an amazing renovation series to watch 👍 thanks as always for your amazing content
That would be awesome. Looks like it’s sitting on quite a big parcel of land, so most likely not in my price range. lol
@@Destination_Adventure I can hook you up with the owner, he's my neighbour. And NOT keen on random trespassers, so you lucked out that day. The reality of this "off grid" cabin is really quite prosaic, it's an abandoned B&B cabin. There was no water found when they test drilled after they started building, and there were some issues with powerline right of way. That's it. (And you missed filming the "Private Property" sign at the start of the trail where you hiked in. That neighbour wouldn't be thrilled to know you were wandering about on their land either, but would likely have given you permission if you'd stopped for a chat.) We're rural out here on Soda Creek-Macalister Road, but hardly in the untamed wilderness! These places are deeded; people own them; just because they're "cool" it doesn't mean "Wander on in."
@@cariboo12345and yet now there’s an incredible recording of a beautiful cabin that’s just been abandoned to rot 🙃
@@sarahd5341 Fair enough, cute, cleverly shot, though perhaps overly dramatic video, but it's not remote, and the structure is privately owned, on posted land. Just because rural properties are "interesting", it doesn't mean it's okay to just wander across them at will. If this was in your town backyard, in your personal fenced area with a Private Property sign on the gate, would you be cool with someone just tromping around filming your stuff? Even if they were "just looking"? Do you know how much our liability insurance is costing us on these rural properties, and how many reasons there are for us knowing who is wandering about, and what they're up to? Property damage and theft is absolutely a concern of every rural landowner, and we have no idea if the random trespasser is a TH-cam star or a potential thief or vandal. This place is literally someone's backyard. And it borders on my backyard. This is an actively and obviously populated neighbourhood, not some middle-of-nowhere random ruin!
@@cariboo12345 If Dustin had seen a no Trespassing sign, we wouldn't have seen this video. Same as if there had been a fence. That's just the type of guy he is.
Not knowing the area Myself, Maybe there needs to be more No trespassing signs out? Maybe closer together?
Even during downtime, you still manage to bring us an adventure. That ride on the river looked like a lot of fun, but it's the unfinished cabin and view that got me. All the possibilities, and the stories. My imagination runs wild with creating stories of why that cabin was never finished.
Such a pity it stalled out but it happens so easily. Getting those materials there was difficult. I would guess they were active on site 2005-2008. Sad to see it failed.
BC has so much beautiful scenery, throughout the Province. The only drawback is that everything from gas to food to accommodations, is so highly expensive.
Another Great Video !! Thank You !!
What a beautifully perfect spot! Poor cabin looks like it's been abandoned for quite some time. As always, your drone footage is awesome. 🥰
It may have been a short video, but it was so good. I don't know if I would like the boat ride you had or not, but I would give it a try. It's a shame that the person who chose that cabin spot didn't get to fulfill their dream. It would be amazing to sit on the deck every morning with a cup of coffee and enjoy the river and nature. Thank you for taking us with you! God's blessing on you from Proctor Minnesota!
While you’re home for a little while, you should think about fixing the headliner in the expedition rig. It will make your “in cab” experience a lot better. A couple of spray cans of super trim adhesive from the auto parts store, pull out the headliner, glue the fabric to the backing, and put it back in. If the material isn’t salvageable, then you can use about any kind of lighter weight fabrics…maybe a grey to match the back glass covering. I really enjoy your content. Stay safe!
The head liner doesn’t bother me. lol
Such beautiful craftsmanship, so sad to see it abandoned and unfinished. That would have been a fantastic cabin!
Good morning our favorite youtuber. ^_^ thank you for another morning video 🤗
Thanks Dustin for documenting a place that none of us would likely ever of seen in a lifetime... it's an awesome spot you found in the backyard of the cariboo...amazing drone shots! it's nice that someone once had a dream there...
There must be a road to that cabin, you can’t do a cement pour without a road for the big trucks to get there. That would be a perfect little summer cabin & the view is wonderful and the sunsets would be beautiful there.
No road. Most likely just drive across the field.
Being a gearhead, I spend too much time seeing what my fellow sufferers are up to. What I've been shown is the wide disparity of quality in videography. You, my friend have skill and a great eye. I thank you.
Wow. What a beautiful location, Dustin. That cabin could be a charm. Town, or county, records should have info about that property. Smoke had been quite bad here in New England, due to fires in Quebec, but it has now cleared. Thanks for taking us along. Be safe, blessings
That is a shame. It looked like they were doing a real fine job on the house as well. I am surprised nobody came along before now and finished it up, just for the fun of it. They had all of the time consuming hard part finished. Slap the roof on, put some windows in and hang some doors and it would have been a real TADA! moment. Beautiful lot and view. It does not get any better then that.
Very rare to get spectacular 360⁰ views like that.
I watched this twice because I couldn't get enough of that place and that magnificent river. Thank you.
Whoever started that cabin has some serious skills. It’s very well made even if it’s not finished. I can easily imagine how cool it would’ve looked if it was complete.
You should absolutely buy that cabin and make a build series. There are not many cabins in such beautiful locations. After building you can use it for relax and make money renting it out.
Stunning view shame it was never finished. I just love log cabins.
dream time ended for some one. beautiful spot with the plateau behind.Thank you for the tour. Ciao.
You are one Cool Dude! I’m a seventy year old grandma from Ontario. I’ve been following you from the beginning. I admire your ethic and your capability. I enjoy being able to see our beautiful country through your videos. BC has so much to offer with its rich history. I wonder what you could find here in Ontario? ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you for the long time enjoyment. :)
That house was so well built from the video. What a shame. Someone put a lot of effort and care into that place.
Looks like destination adventure project for 2024!
Nice balcony overlooking the river would be wonderful thanks for sharing this gem of a find Dustin 🤘
You're camera work is amazing! The dedication to setting up all the shots shows. Great video, as always. Have fun and stay safe!
Thank you.
i adore your videos Dustin, you're doing everything i can only dream of doing!
What a sad little cabin. Someone’s dream died.. thanks for taking the time and trouble to find it for us!
Love the Archer Hairline Font at the end 👌. It's one of my favourites
Cool, but the abandoned ranch house you drove by was calling my name. Hope you’re avoiding the wildfires and staying safe.
That’s a really cool ranch house. It’s on property with an occupied residence, so I didn’t even stop for a closer look.
Love the music choices today! Looks like the makers of the cabin are more recent, but they didn't leave a ton of debris behind which is an improvement on that mining site a few weeks ago. Wonder what stopped them from finishing. Hope the smoke doesn't make you sick. Stay safe!
I met a guy from Montreal here in Australia. It was -40c when he left and +46c where we were. I was afraid he would die.
Thanks for another beautiful adventure. Your vids are a class act, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much
As a contractor that was remodeling an old barn into a really cool house but the customer pulled the plug on it as we were a bit along in it, i can really feel what it would have been like to have to leave this project undone. What a shame. Thanks for sharing it with us
Yeah, I agree that is a beautiful place🎉🎉👍👍🙏
That is a wonderful location, I truly hope that what caused the abandonment was not the loss of a loved one. I agree with you, that would be a great place to call home.
The foundation seems great. Tear the timbers down and have firewood for a winter or 2.
That cabin is incredible!! What a perfect spot to build a home, I wonder what the story is behind it. Next to that amazing view what struck me was the quiet. So blissfully silent. Awesome video as always!
Something I like from your videos is the music I find, been able to come across a few I like,
You deserve much more recognition. Your channel is one of my top go to.
True my friend a beautiful waste!
I could see ziplining to the Fraser for water, or across for hunting, that cabin had potential at one time or other. Neither the less, enjoy your drive.
Every time I see the intro, I crack up😂❤
ok first of all still adore the intro with your nieces!! Love the ADVENTURES sorry your world is afire and most of a dream through your video .. peace out Dustin thank you for all that you do. An avid paton
i wish i could give a wish to you. the way you light up with that unfinished cabin...when i say my prayers i will speak my wish. best wishes
Was up there in 91 or 92 for Frazer fest care of the us navy had a great time very beautiful and friendly people up there
Great spot, such a waste:(, thanks for hiking up there!
Wow! I can see why someone would want to build a home there! That would be my dream home for sure! Great video! 😊
Thanks
Love that spot
I'm so glad I've come across your video's....its so fun to adventure with you😊
I was obviously, most definitely born and raised in the wrong part of the world.. but I will see those places thanks to this channel!! Awesome as always my friend 👊👊
Thank you for starting my Saturday with a smile.
Had to watch it twice. Couldn’t get over the location.
That smoke looks like winter to spring were i'm at in Australia, good thing it hasn't been too bad this year.
I am watching your other vodeo from 4 weeks ago. So many of us love you, so i say this with kindness. Please put on a life jacket.
Buy it !! Finish it .!!
Maybe start looking at plots of ground to buy Dustin… Put up a pole barn you can drive into and work on your rig and build a nice little off grid cabin ❤ Adventuring is nice but so is hunting around and filling your freezer for winter ❄️ whatever you choose it’s your ability to story tell that makes your channel. Starlink makes it possible to upload videos out in the backcountry.
Here in the black hills of sodak we're getting all the smoke from the fires up there...crazy...
That cabin was awesome, and hey; your beard game is strong!
Yup.... this would be my dream home too.
Imagine waking up to that view every day!! Try to buy it Dustin!!!! 😂 Gill 🇬🇧
Dustin, part of my enjoyment in watching your vids is searching satelite views based on the landmark you've filmed, to find your adventure location, a place we drive by on a regular basis with secret hidden gems. Great episode.
Did you find it? I think there’s enough hints, but you have to know the area a bit for sure. Be cool if you can track it down though.
@Destination_Adventure you bet. Just south of the CN overpass on 97.
The tough one was the abandoned mine from a couple weeks ago. That one took a little more sleuthing, but found it. 😁
Thanks for keeping Saturday evenings entertaining 👍
Beautiful. I could stay there for a while.
The cabin is on a beautiful site ! Just looks like someone’s broken dream! Ready for the next amazing adventure from Dustin Porter, thank you for sharing the stories of your life with us!
Great video again !
That is amazing, beautiful view!
Nice video! Thank you for taking us with you!
Dustin! That place is amazing! Buy it up quick.
That’s an awesome find, amazing view.
As always, beautiful video/editing and an incredibly cool (even if unfinished) find. Excited for the continued adventures ahead.
Another day of an amazing and beautiful explore!!
Thanks for another great episode! I always look forward to Saturday. Breakfast with great scenery.
Thanks for such great videos
Thank you so much for showcasing the beauty of Canada. Your videos are very inspirational.
Living the dream, thank you for sharing it Dustin.
Sweet cabin I keep expecting a dead bear around every corner.
cheer's keep the faith.
Dean
Your talent is unbelievable. You can make a great video out of anything. That cabin not being finished is such a shame. Someone could save it now but they better get on it. A lot of investment to walk away from. Thanks for showing us the beautiful area. It’s like a dream vacation area to me. Seems like everywhere you go is amazing. I love it. Canada seems so awesome to travel and camp in. I’m from the U.S. Thanks again!!!
What a great into! Love the Jet boats! Looking forward to this episode!
Wow that house was in a awesome location!! So sad that they didn’t get to finish it. Thanks for taking us a long!! As always we will look forward to your next video address! Be safe
What, no stripmalls, drugstores , interstates, communities.
Omg,that would be so awsome! That is definitely an ahhh! Moment
What a cool video as always Dustin. Thanks
I've always wanted to go check that place out, thanks for taking us. Would be amazing to live there.
I love your channel Dustin you always have the best shots of nature awesome music cool humor. Keep up the good work my friend.
Nice little mini adventure, D - I love it when you explore our province, even if it is just outside town.
the easterlies and westerlies sure would bite down hard on that cabin.
That was a great destination adventure!
Would love to spend six months exploring all of BC !
Bravo...another great job
Another Great video.
Great video Dustin. Just amazes me how many places have been abandoned. Our little town has at least half a dozen empty houses just on the road to our house. Great job and happy trails. 👍👍👍👍👍 🍻
