4th gen is probably the nicest looking Yamaha in my opinion. So much that I held off on buying the xsr900 just to lay eyes on the gen4 before I make my final decision.

I have a gen3 Yamaha mt09 from 2023 and i love the bike, i've had many bikes but this ones it's perfect for me.
The 2024 model has great updates but i'll wait to see in person.
Looking forward for your impressions when you got it.

I've been watching social media and the motorcycle market for quite a long time. Never fails: updated or new bike is released, heavily polarized opinions abound. People get used to a model for a couple years (the same model they vomited all over at first) and when it gets a refresh in design, they come out swinging and angry again. Ever. Single. Time.

I have an MT-09 SP I bought new in December 2022.
I’ve covered 4000 miles on it in the first year, just fitted Michelin Road 6 tyres and had it serviced.
I find it really comfortable and will be touring France, the Alps & Italy on it later this year.
The seat shape & material, bar height and foot-peg position really work for me.
I’m more than happy with the dash, switchgear and rider aids.
I love the look of it too.
I’ll have a look at the 2024 09 SP out of interest but I can’t see me changing from my bike.
I have two other bikes also and, as a stable, all my needs are met.

Hate the split seat, if your passenger is shorter than you like my wife is your helmets will smack every time you brake hard, split seat is one of the reasons we sold out Aprilia RSVR and purchased a 2023 MT 09 SP.

Think i will maybe get another Mt09 in the future as its an amazing bike but this year they just didnt do enough for me to trade across to the 2024 model so its moving up an onto better things for me but what a great video will be interesting to see when you get it

    Good preview...
The one aspect that Yamaha has not yet really addressed is the lack of front wheel plantedness at higher speeds.
This was one of the main reasons for fairings that provided downward force on the front wheel at speed.
Without fairings all you can do is lean forward... hence, the new forward positioned handlebars. So, yes, they have addressed that but it is way too superficial.
They should have also provided a front deflector cowl as standard in order to help push the front wheel down at speed.
At least this is something that can be remedied in the aftermarket. The front Brembo brake caliper is a nice touch but unless you properly bleed the brake lines at the factory and use stainless steel braided brake lines... Brembo's can only do so much.
If I were to buy one, I would use risers to allow a more comfortable upright seating position for longer trips. Or a whole new handlebar system.
Hey, if they want to lean you forward then give up the naked look and provide a full fairing to keep the front wheel on the road.
If not, at least provide some design down force.
    Gord

Hey Bruzzy, I was sad for the first 14 seconds of this video, and then you said 2024 MT-09 which made me feel much better. As do you, I love my 2021 model and can't really afford to trade up, so it's not an option for me at this point. In saying that, the look of the sharp lines has also grown on me since my initial thoughts, but I don't think I can do the split seat. I have a slightly dodgey right knee and I spend a bit of time towards the back of my seat during every ride so I can stretch it out. The split seat will take this option away unless it can be replaced with some kind of single seat setup. Everything else looks really nice and I'm looking forward to seeing you power wheelie it down the highway. All the best for the Christmas break.

    • @bruzzymoto
      @bruzzymoto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's fair enough man, whatever works for you. It's really nice that the tandem seat gives you that option. I'm going to enjoy a slightly sportier position while I still have functioning knees 😆 Merry Christmas legend! 🤝

The new tech on the 4th gen are very nice! Love that the front light/head is lowered, however i dont like the face as much. I find the sportier ergos on the new one very attractive, so ive ordered a 2DGT-04-17-B
Gilles Adjustable Handlebar Risers to move them lower and further forward, as well as their rearset to get pegs more up and back. Im getting steelbraded brake lines to further sharpen the stopping power just a smudge. With theese upgrades i hope i get similar ergos as the new gen.
With these upgrades im only missing the tech i hope. Ive put way to much money on upgrades such as exhaust, mirrors, levers, tail tidy, bar ends, protectors and so on to sell it. Sentimental value for the bike is too much for me to sell it 😂 plus i got a reallt good deal on it when i bought it.
Dont know if ill dare to try the new gen, just in case i change my mind 😂😂😂

2021 non-SP here. The electronic updates for 2024 are nice as is the alloy rear brake pedal (finally). I’m not a fan of the new Gen-4 headlight, tank, or seat though. Given a choice, sure, the 2024 is a better bike overall but I’ll happily stick with my Gen-3 which has advantages (headlight/tank/seat design) that I’d prefer to keep. An alloy brake pedal (especially on a SP!) would be a nice retrofit to the Gen-3 if that’s possible. Trade-in? Not a chance.

I too have evolved my riding style. I started riding in June. I went from and upright scrambler, to a sporty slightly more aggressive leaning street triple 765, very soon will be trading in for a supersports. I just keep leaning more and more forward. Next I may ride upside down. Haha. Seriously though, I am experimenting right now. Trying different seating positions and engine styles. Trying to catch up for all the years I should have been riding.

Owner of a ‘23. If I was buying new between the 2, the price difference for a Gen4 is a no brainer. The slightly better quick shifter is enough for me.
But as a current owner, it’s not enough to take a 3k+ hit. More if you’re financing and doing a trade in.

Im in the us and i want to upgrade from the 2020 mt09 to the 2024 however i really want the xsr900 gp which isn't currently available in the us. Knowing my luck i would get the 24mt09 and 2 weeks later the xar900gp would come to the States. I bought my 2020 and a few months later the new redesigned mt09 came out. Tbh im still very hapy with my mt09 ater over 20k miles especially because qbout 18k of that is with the woolich racing tools bidirectional quickshifer and launch control. Ive definitely considered and mt10 bout my mt09 does 160mph and handles better than the mt10 so i cant justify it. If i really went crazy id get a Ducati street fighter v4 s 180+mph and it revs to 15k plus that or a zh2 with intake exaust tune and supercharger pulley.

Bought a 23 4,000km used and with mods, couldn’t justify spending $5k more to get a bike that has a slightly better screen and keyless start, plus I’d have to buy all the stuff this bike had anyway, windscreen, exhaust etc.

First, nearly all OEM stainless-steel (as opposed to chromed steel) exhausts are welded without any polishing or cleanup afterward. Second, it’s not that difficult to grind the welds smooth and polish off the brown stains (left behind by welding without gas). The polishing makes the stock MT-09 exhaust look a ton better. Why complain about something you could address yourself in a couple of hours?
