    Awesome little boat . I rescued a 1980 com-pac took it down to the bare hull and gave her a new shot at life . I also have a Westsail 32 and a Bristol 27 but my Com-Pac get's the most use and is getting all new wood this year . Thanks for the tour .

    I wonder how well it would work leaving off the sails and just using it as a small outboard motor power boat? Its a neat boat but I have too much trouble with my back to be crawling all over the boat adjusting the sails.

    Fine looking boat. Didi you build from a kit? How many hours did it take? Are you happy with its performance?
    Tks

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joao Andrade Yes, I built it from a kit. It can be built from plans,but I opted for the kit mainly so I would not have to spend so much time hunting materials. The materials that CLC are top notch. The performance is great. I had no problems staying up with most of the boats during the four Texas 200 events I sailed. The catamarans and triamarans were definitely faster but that is expected. I spent I think about 9 months building it. That’s pretty fast. Some spend at least a couple of years but my schedule allowed some full days where I could really make some progress. I do work efficiently for the most part. Check out the Texas 200 videos I did to see it on the water.

    • @rioforforeigners
      @rioforforeigners 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jbratt I've seen the Texas 200 one, it's good. Kit is not an option for me, as I'm in Brazil. I'm building the eastport pram and it's already a considerable amount of work, but, who knows, maybe one day. The other issue with homemade boats is the resale value, I guess they're worth if you enjoy building them.

      They are C Cushions from Rockport TX. I gave him a pattern and he custom made them. The quality is really nice and the guy is easy to work with.

    Hi! What size outboard will you be using? Cheers.

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the Honda 2.3. It was the smallest available. The boat designer says the 2.0 was big enough but I couldn’t find one. If I had it to do over I would find one with a longer shaft because when I have needed it the water has been pretty rough and the propeller would come out of the water. With a long shaft you have to be careful the rudder doesn’t contact the prop. This is a really old video I have done a lot of sailing since this was made. Check out the exams 200 videos. The quality of the videos get much better. Thanks for watching.

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cape Cod Daysailing it’s a compass made by Ritchie. It’s the through bulkhead model. I️ made a little box for the backside. It has a couple of wires I️ have been meaning to hook up so it will light up. Figured putting it on the same circuit as the running lights would make sense. Thank you!

    • @capecoddaysailing6793
      @capecoddaysailing6793 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they make Ritchie near me in Massachusetts. I'll check it out. what kind of running lights did you choose? Couldn't really tell in your videos. That's a lot of boat in 15'. Amazing.

    John,
    Looks great. Curious if you used a CLC kit or built from scratch. Also interested in the number of hours you spent on the build and what your final cost was. Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Da, I used the kit from CLC to save time. Once everything is all together it would be hard to build one for much under $10,000. I spent 8 months building mine. You can google my blog at Pocketshipyard.

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Harms The Garmin is an echomap 50s. I have a through hull transducer hooked up to it. The Ram mount is a model RAM-109H(V). It is a little overkill for the GPS I have mounted on it but it's nice compared with the too light wood mount I built and started with. Thanks for watching! This is my first time to edit and hopefully the Texas 200 edits will be better with more practice.

    I am interested in building one of these. But I have a question. Do the sails come red or do you get to choose the color? I've seen many pictures of pocket ships with red sails so I'm just wondering what the color is.

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sail color I have is called tanbark. The sails available through CLC for the Pocketship are white, an off white, and tanbark. Here is a link: www.clcboats.com/shop/boats/boat-plans/sailboat-plans/pocketship-sailing-pocket-cruiser-kit.html

    the place for legs in the cockpit seems rather narrow, isn't it a problem?
    Thanks

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aerofred Van H the space between the seating is a little narrow but with my size 12 feet I have been comfortable even after 12+ hours of sailing in one day. An extra inch might be nice. I have heard of builders modifying theirs. I just have not found it a problem.

    • @fredvanh1
      @fredvanh1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jbratt Thanks for your answer.
      The only problem with a little larger, I suppose, it means less wide berths below.
      This boat is stitch and glue, Isuppose. It looks solid. how thick is the plywood?

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aerofred Van H the plywood varies slightly in thickness depending on where it’s used 6mm and 9 mm are the two thickness and 3/4 “ for the transom. All the plywood is sandwiched between fiberglass and epoxy. It’s tough and light. It was as much fun to build as it is to sail, just different fun.

      @jbratt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, build a boat is a pleasure. I'm looking for a new boat to build and I see with your vids that the Poketship is very interresting : short outside but large inside, and sails good. Your 200 miles with this boat is a real little adventure ! I like it !

    With no engine the battery(ies) will not last long using all these useless gadgets.
    When sailing you're bound to be either too hot … or too cold ; that's how life is on a boat. The rest is child's game, notwithstanding the very fine work you've done.

    • @jbratt
      @jbratt  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      vincent7520 Having done the Texas 200 (5 days) I found the radio to be a bit much and didn't use it. The cabin lights were used in very short durations. I did use the GPS the entire time. On the last night this year, knowing the water depth and navigation for the last day I was not concerned about doing without my GPS. It was brutally hot and I ran my fan all night without concern for the battery. No problem the next day. The amp meter didn't move. I do have a solar panel 😀 thanks and yes it does get hot👍

    • @vincent7520
      @vincent7520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Loops ! My bad !
      I forgot about solar panel.
      I'm an old school sailor, as you can see (with a small but useful diesel engine onboard…)
