You know, he never really finished the thought about the coal, but I can definitely sympathize. I’ve made a couple singleplayer worlds since 1.18 dropped, and I’ve had serious trouble finding enough coal in literally every single one. I’ve resorted to using charcoal a couple times, which I don’t like doing because it makes me feel like a noob, and I’ve been seriously considering making a wither skeleton farm just for the coal drops. (I think it’s worse because the ratio of coal VS copper + iron + gold is insanely lopsided, and considering everything else coal’s used for, there’s just never enough coal for everything I want to do.)
More coal is generated in the world than before actually, much like iron and copper. You guys are just looking in the wrong spots. Spawn locations changed to very high up in the world, on mountains and such. Start searching around Y 95
I actually agree with og comment. My minecraft worlds since the update have been lacking coal no matter how far up I go. I've been having to journey ~3000 blocks on average lately to new areas because my coal rates are so poor, and even then I find one or two twenty coal veins and that's all I can get. It's like you need Fortune III just to get a decent amount of coal. Maybe the values are off to me because I have loads of automatic smelters, but it still applies. edit: focusing on the how high up I go, my main world involves my base situated on y-156.
I love the timer, it really puts into perspective how long these episodes take, I'm sure larger projects take even more than 10 hours with gathering resources and all that jazz. Thank you Grian for putting in all this hard work and providing us with free entertainment, I really appreciate all you do.
If Grian completes the 100 hours and he’s doing 10 hours a session that’s 10 episodes in total. In last life each episode took about 4 days to create, bearing in mind they had to organise 17 people to all record at the same time, plus they had other series going on at the same time. If we’re optimistic and say that he can put out an episode every other day we’re looking at an early Feb end and possibly Hermitcraft S9 starting soon after that
Ok but imagine this- at 50 hours you invite your guest (lets say MumboJumbo). MumboJumbo joins and begins playing with you and adding to your world. Once you hit 100 hours, you're gone. You retire from the server. But Mumbo keeps playing. Once he hits 50 hours, he invites a guest... And so on and so on. You'll pass on this world generation by generation until someone loses it.
I'd love to start a world where every time I die (which is pretty often), I teleport myself to a new location and I start again, but have a chance of stumbling across old bases and items.
"I know what you're famous for, ending hardcore worlds" Grian said to the the baby zombie (5:05). The Old Man's words echoed... "NOOOOOOO! Really????? That's how I die????"

I just watched the Double Life videos and honestly I think there is the greatest Grian quote of all time (and he has a lot!) - when he figured out he was soulbound with Scar and he just yelled "Scar! I think that we're soulmates and you're too busy chasing fairies!!!"... Aaaaaand I just died 🤣 🤣 🤣 I was genuinely crying I laughed so much.
Guud soop! YES! I watched this series when it first came out, but then I got coauthor up with the life series and HC, and I kinda forgot about it. My guess: he'll make it to 100 hours, but then he'll decide to keep playing just long enough to finish something he was working on, and he'll die while working on it.
“I still haven’t heard from Joel and Scar…” 💀 that’s what friends are for, meddling in everything you do and then refusing to explain the weird things THEY do lmao
I came here to comment about that. He made it sound like this was a mutually planned collab type series while Grian is just like "why are these people here??!!"
Grian: "I don't know if there's anything super valuable in these that's worth sticking around and risking our hundred hours." Literally being able to get totems of undying.
Who raids a mansion in the first 12 hours of playing? lol Grian isn't stupid, when have you ever seen him use a totem? He obviously weighed the pros and cons and decided totems aren't worth losing the world on the first video.
Yeah running straight into a woodland mansion without some enchanted gear and some decent healing like potions or golden apples is pretty risky. You may make it through but with nothing but iron gear and regular food there's a high chance that you're going to just get killed.
I just realised during Scar and Joel's appearance that I have seen the end of this series already but somehow completely missed the beginning from Grian's perspective. I have watched the later ones and all from Joel's perspective and some from Scar's. Not sure how I managed that! 😂
Hey Grian, the best way to kill evokers and gets totems of undying is to run straight up to them and crit them before they are able to spawn their vexes cuz an evoker can’t to melee combat. Same with witches; kill them before they are able to splash you with poison
The evoker has a 5.5 sec melee magic cool down and a 10 sec vex cool down as well that he can't spawn more than 6 vexes or it would be really op Also IDK about witches
@@divyanshrockers1266 what do you mean you don't know about witches? as they drink healing potions whenever they _take_ damage, they can't throw any offensive potions at you if you keep _dealing_ damage.
With the new caves more than ever diamonds are really not that hard to find, usually just casual minecraft watchers who most of the time over exaggerate finding diamonds. I don't think your guys could handle watching a UHC
Finally a youtuber who doesn't say that your world is deleted if you die, because it doesn't get deleted, unless you manually delete it. Jesus I get it, its an older feature. I knew that, its just wierd seeing so many people still talking about it because it was several years ago.
@@dustinjames1268 I've lost in a couple hardcore worlds and whenever I want to go explore them (after I've died) the only way I've found to get through any portal _is_ via turning on LAN and enabling cheats so you can /gamemode to go through. I usually bonk myself back into spectator when I get through though so it's not _necessarily_ cheating, if it's just a workaround for a game mechanic. -I do not /gamemode while still on the one life, only post-death lol-
@@Noah-lj2sg Actually he is kinda right, I used the xray resource pack to test this myself, coal spawns more frequently in hills generally. However, high mountains wont do any good. Only hills. Also coal is frequent underwater, but that's not really the best option tbh, unless you got aqua affinity.
@@shyper4362 Well I'm not that sure about this, but yeah I agree mostly. Coal is the only ore (idk about copper) that spawns above sea level, so try some small hills and caves if possible, so it doesnt get "drowned out" by the other ores.
You say that, but I seem to recall Ph1LzA saying that he doesn't find totems to be the most useful item most of the time. I might be confusing that with Pixlriffs, though
Idea for why there are so many drowned: Below the lake in a cave there is a zombie spawner that is underwater. The zombies spawn, and turn into drowned.
I re-watched Grian’s and Scar’s episodes and by using the explosion as a reference point I discovered that Scar was in the world first (by 1 hour and 49 minutes to be exact) and that they both have individual timers.
Well, we don't know if Grian was online during the whole time, he maybe might've taken a couple of 15 minute breaks sometimes meanwhile Scar was playing consistently.
Rewatching and I think the thing I like most is that the timestamps show how long it does really take to do stuff. I love having counters because it helps with realistic expectations rather than my brain seeing a timelapse and going "you're not Minecrafting as good", which is admittedly a silly thing to think because everyone goes at their own pace and does well at what they're good at, but it's still something I struggle with in both Minecraft and other, more traditional art.
HOW did I not know this existed till now? I’ve been calmly waiting for new content only to realize I’ve MISSED an ENTIRE series. Crying rn but I’m glad I found this
Yes, 1.18 makes it so that theres places with really high drowned spawns. In the code, river biomes can spawn more drowned than ocean biomes because usually, rivers are much smaller than oceans. 1.18 gives us big, deep rivers in spots, where its deep enough to be dark, and its massive enough to support a lot of spawns.
@@spinx6100 I'm not sure about those spawn mechanics, but that makes sence to me. I'm pretty sure striders are the only passive mob in the nether, so they get their own spawn cap, meaning they can keep spawning even if there's a ton of other mobs already spawned in. Ad for goats, they only spawn on mountains. If you're on a mountain, then you're so high up that the only thing in your spawning radius is the mountain, meaning more goats spawn. I am not very familiar with the spawn mechanics of goats though, as they are fairly new.
the issue youre having with drowned is caused by the fact that they spawn more frequently in rivers than any other biome, that river is also really deep meaning there is a lot of space that is light level 0 allowing way more drowned to spawn
Aren't drowned the one hostile mob that can still spawn in higher light levels? I thought they were made a special case (making the problem even worse)
As a new viewer, I have to say that the broken wheat and torch, and the sign with a message, straight up reminded me of Israphel invading the Yogscast back in 2010. Oh the memories. 😂
Pretty sure it was done on purpose to add some ‘story’ to the next series,I’m gonna assume this is the next somewhat like last life series unless they’re planning on adding a season 2 to last life
@@proper7439 and just to clarify, this is not season 3 of third/last life. I think Impulse said that Grian is still thinking about a new interesting twist for the next season.

Are we gonna talk about how LUCKY this man is? A woodland mansion, a nether fortress right at the portal and diamonds as soon as he gets into the cave?
Most YT do examine the seed before they start, unless they explicitly do put in a random seed. It's not cheating, they want to make a good viewing experience.

Had the same thing with Last and Secret life from Lizzie’s POV 😂
Hey Grian, the best way to kill evokers and gets totems of undying is to run straight up to them and crit them before they are able to spawn their vexes cuz an evoker can’t to melee combat. Same with witches; kill them before they are able to splash you with poison
Joy
The evoker has a 5.5 sec melee magic cool down and a 10 sec vex cool down as well that he can't spawn more than 6 vexes or it would be really op
Also IDK about witches
Witches poison cooldown looks the same as skeleton cooldown.
But when witches got hurt too much their healing is 3s cooldown I guess.
@@divyanshrockers1266 what do you mean you don't know about witches?
as they drink healing potions whenever they _take_ damage, they can't throw any offensive potions at you if you keep _dealing_ damage.

hey grian, just a quick recommendation, coal spawns more frequently at higher y levels, so if your wanting coal, try mining a few mountains

I re-watched Grian’s and Scar’s episodes and by using the explosion as a reference point I discovered that Scar was in the world first (by 1 hour and 49 minutes to be exact) and that they both have individual timers.
Now the real question is which one of them will die first? 😂
Maybe not first but he for sure played longer than Grian up to that point.

Is there a similar rule with other mobs? I have found a literal hundreds of goats and striders at a time a few times
