I definitely heard that it was dripstone. Actually, drowned have always had extreme spawn rates in river biomes, but you never get to see that due to how little area they take up, and how shallow rivers are. in 1.18, with deeper ponds that are still river biomes, (notably quite large too) you get to see the increased drowned spawnrate shine. drowned spawn more in rivers to accomodate how little space rivers usually take up, but for bigger rivers that was not accounted for. simple solution is to light up the floor of the river.
@@jasontaylor2433 took me a while, tridents are rare in java, but big rivers having big spawnrates has always been a thing, technically. ever since 1.13

That's why I ALWAYS put a furnace with a flint and steel inside it next to the netherportal. Furnace=Cobble=ghastproof (it's actually the first thing I do when entering the nether).
You can craft a Fire Charge with just ingredients from the nether if you ever get "stuck". Many do not know this and is not exactly easy nor practical to do but it would light the portal. Coal from Wither Skellys, Blaze Power from Blaze, and Gunpowder from Ghasts. Would have been cool to see this done as a challenge in a video or just in this series. Upvote so Grian sees love the content keep it up! :) *Update: This was more of an old school way before Nether Update. There are other methods as well. Bartering, Ghast balls etc. :D
Another way to relight the portal is to have the ghast's fireball hit the empty portal. Just gotta stand in the portal frame, wait for the fireball to come at you, back up, and voila.
Also, if firespread is on, you can place wood (only overworld wood types) (other flammable things like wool should work too, in theory) behind the portal, lava in front of it, and wait for it to light
This definitely helps with my hermitcraft withdrawal. This time away from the series really gave me a new appreciation for how much entertainment/content you guys provide us. It’s far better than anything on television, thats for sure.
Actually when you’re stuck in the Nether, you can take advantage of the wool to lead the fire nearby to the portal and light it up I’ve gotten in the same situation before and I used haybales for that
Grian if you read this, Go find a lukewarm ocean, get sea pickles and plant them all around the lake so drowned can't spawn. I had the same problem on another server and solved it that way
As long as the server has fire spread on, and you have a burnable block like "wool", you can relight the portal by placing it next to the portal and spreading the fire to the portal frame.
Gold helmet rating the least... Gold boots protect half an armor bar, a gold helmet protects 1. For reference, diamond/netherite boots and helmets both protect 1 and a half armor bars.
Fun fact: you could just light the lower area to get rid of the drowns since they can't spawn in the light. Also you can make a really successful drown farm considering you literally built your house at a river with a lot of drown spawns.
First time I've seen a bot double comment before. Also I'm not sure what underwater lights are available to him, most likely jack-o'-lanterns would be the easiest to get. (And make the river feel really retro from when they were the only underwater light source)
when they were discussing the ender dragon and grian said "I've got a trident" my brain went "you've got a whatnow?" because one rule I've learned is to never bring your trident to the end unless it's a riptide trident.

I've never been more stressed than when Grian walked BLIND in the nether strip mine.
SAME! I literally said to my computer "stop! Look where you're going! Stop doing third person! Stop!" XD
Scar's base came close
We need more grian and Joel adventures this was great
Rightttt they’re such a fun duo
15:17 How incredibly funny would it have been if the series just ended right there
If you're protecting Scar, I would dig out the area under Scar's house so that it's all water.
Missed opportunity: Grian should've sung to Scar about how he was going to "show him the world" rowing off Scar's base.
That would have been perfect!
“Have you seen anything more beautiful than this in your life?”
Grian, you have a wife. Shouldn’t that be more beautiful than pixels in a game?
ahahaha
Wait Grains married-?!
@@flower_productions7213 yes, i remember him mentioning it in S7 i believe but idk when he actually got married

That's why I ALWAYS put a furnace with a flint and steel inside it next to the netherportal. Furnace=Cobble=ghastproof (it's actually the first thing I do when entering the nether).
The thing I do is surround the portal with cobble
“Old habits die young”
The best quote I’ve heard in a while
"I've actually not done this is a long time..."
Grian throws trident and hits with first shot.

I've gotten unstranded by mining gold and using piglin bartering, they can give you fire charges as well
Or flint and steel; gravel spawns naturally in the nether and iron spawns in fortress chests

Love the series so far! Glad Joel and Scar are along for the ride too
I love how when Grian is with Joel he is like a little brother, continually stressing him out
This definitely helps with my hermitcraft withdrawal. This time away from the series really gave me a new appreciation for how much entertainment/content you guys provide us.
It’s far better than anything on television, thats for sure.
Mark my words, Grian's going to get "the whole Minecraft experience" in 100 hours while I struggle to do it over 100 years.
Same
YOU ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO DO 1 HOUR
But grian can do 500h i think
You should Watch lukethenotables 69 days in Hardcore
Actually when you’re stuck in the Nether, you can take advantage of the wool to lead the fire nearby to the portal and light it up
I’ve gotten in the same situation before and I used haybales for that
Grain saying “m y p r e c i o u s” about an elytra is about the best thing I’ve heard all day.
I feel like you should collect every block in the game it could be interesting to kind of lay it in a gradient :)
He’d end up spending half of those hours trying to get bedrock
Tru and also If u could lend me a sub I’ll truly appreciate it m8. Nothing happens if u don’t do have a good day!
@@clipscompilations4442 just place every block at bedrock level:)

I love the cut at 12:14
"This could be cool!"
Immediately gets hit by the fireball
Scar:I love danger
Also Scar:dies hundreds of times
Grian if you read this, Go find a lukewarm ocean, get sea pickles and plant them all around the lake so drowned can't spawn. I had the same problem on another server and solved it that way
10 hours of play for 30 minutes of content...you have to admire these people. Grian especially :D
That doesn't even include the editing process, truly wonderful
As long as the server has fire spread on, and you have a burnable block like "wool",
you can relight the portal by placing it next to the portal and spreading the fire to the portal frame.
Another cool trick:
you can relight the portal with a ghasts fireball
@@zynstein but ... How?
Also with lighting rods
@@daephx You stand in the portal frame when a ghast is watching, and if the fireball goes in (and it doesn't hit you,) the portal should light.
@@daephx Have the fireball bit the inside of the frame. Its tricky but doable
Should've gotten yourself some gold boots. They effect your armor rating the least and keep piglins from attacking you
Gold helmet rating the least...
@@jasonreed7522 Can't he just use lanterns?
when they were discussing the ender dragon and grian said "I've got a trident" my brain went "you've got a whatnow?" because one rule I've learned is to never bring your trident to the end unless it's a riptide trident.
Can I ask why?
Why? A riptide trident in the end sounds very dumb
its because if a trident falls into the void it never comes back and you bring a riptide trident to get around the end islands faster.
@@fudgedeer605 oh okay
