Easy way to make pets eyes POP! | Retouching Eyes in Photoshop with Curves Adjustment Layers

- Ever wondered how to make a photo more impactful? Enhancing the eyes is the first place to start! Here is our tried and tested, and very popular, eye edit in Photoshop using a curves adjustment layer. Retouching eyes is something that everyone does differently, and although I use a slightly different method now, this was the original method for editing eyes, as seen in our online courses, taught out in one-to-ones and featured in all of my 2020 awards work.
Give it a go but don't go too heavy on the opacity in the end!

Please note, the keyboard shortcut to change brush sizes features CONTROL on a mac, not Command - my apologies!

I photographed my grandchildrens' border collie recently and she has one bright blue eye and one dark brown eye. This gives the impression she only has one eye.
Instruction begins at 2:30, great tutorial.

Eye adjustments never get old. Thanks. Would love to see how this differs from the way you do it now that you mentioned.
Always a winner!
Yess that was great!! The way you explain editing makes me feel so much more comfortable with PS! I am a Lightroom guru but PS always has me stumped! Thank you so much for.makong this I enjoyed it immensely!
Thank you for your kind words 🙏
Nice tip, Thanks. I mainly photograph birds. Eye edits are super important. I'm going to give your method a try.
Let us know how you get on!
Oh wow I have never done it like this before and it is so cool - thank you very much for making it sound super simple. I am definitely going to give this a go :0)
No worries, I am glad to have been able to introduce you to a new way of working and can't wait to see the results 🙂
So useful! I just brush on the eye and change highlights and whatnot but this looks wayyy more natural!
I do find that sometimes my dog looks crossed eyed because I don’t get the pupils correct 🤣 excited to give this a try! ❤️
Good luck! Sure you'll do great 🥰
Thanks ❤
You're welcome ❤
I'm very glad that you filmed this video and showed specifics. It's very useful! Thanks! One question that kept popping out in my mind is: why do you prefer curves adjustment layer vs dodge and burn for editing the eyes?
This is just one method of many, and the one that works for us 😎
Hey, love your content, you are teaching me so much.
Once you have edited it as a smart object in Photoshop, where/how do you save it? I want to keep it as tidy as possible, cheers
Can u do a tutorial on dogs with blue eyes??
Yes, very useful. I use two curves adjustment layers, one for lightening the light areas and one for darkening the dark areas. I also like to sharpen the eyes a bit too. What is your preferred method for that? Thanks for another great video!
High pass for me, for sure! I darken the eye areas with my contour, so super similar really!
Hello. Very cool work. And where can you see the processing of a photo from start to finish? Thank you

Do you need photoshop for this or is it possible to completely do it in Lightroom?
Could you do another one for the things you do? Because this method didn't work on my dog's eyes
Are you still doing it this way? Thanks for the tutorial
Beautiful 😍 it's close to what you've shown in the horse eye edit, right?
Yep! We just go for a different shape with the ponies!
awe the doggo is so cute!!
what editing app do u recommend for a iphone
Just so you know there is this app, Photoshop on iPhone
@@genesiseq that cost money tho
dumb question but is this able to be achieved in light room also?
Hi Ashley, you can achieve comparable results in light room 😊
Hello, I'll send an email to ask, but I'll also ask around here eheh . How long are the courses available after starting? I work offshore and often lose access to the Internet.
Hi, thank you so much for your question. It very much depends on the course, for example Photoshop for Beginners & Lightroom for Beginners have 3 months course access however the Business Bootcamp has 12 months. There is the option to request a further extension of 3 months if you are struggling to complete any of the courses. Hope this helps 😊

Thanks for the quick response and sorry for the delay in responding.
I will take your courses, but I'll wait to take them when I disembark the ship before I begin. Until then, I'll immerse myself in your videos.
Thank you so much for your work on youtube, hugs from Brazil.
LMAO Slightly Radioactive
🤣
I'm not surprised you disabled downvotes.
TH-cam disabled downvotes nearly two years ago on every one of its 800 million videos. I’m sorry that you woke up angry today Sean, have a wonderful day 😊
