Look, all i'm saying is that last year the price of lithium per tonne was €78,000, it will most likely go back up to that price in the coming years as EV demand increases. Serbia has around 1.2million tonnes of Lithium. That would give a total value of €94billion. The mining operations is all underground as well which mitigates the environmental impact, i really don't believe it is that bad. There is a lot of irrational fear mongering from the media.
Also according to the memorandum, Serbia holds 87% share of the mine, which means 87% of the money generated stays in Serbia. So its not like they've sold the entire thing to Rio tinto all for them to keep and benefit.

Yeah but tatjana, last year the price of Lithium was €78,000 per tonne. Serbia has around 1.2million tonnes of lithium reserve which would in total be valued around €94billion. Serbia according to the signed memorandum would also keep an 87% stake, so 87% of all the money generated from the lithium stays in Serbia and the Serbian economy. Or around €81billion (dependant on lithium price fluctuations but regardless, that is a lot of money that would completely change Serbia's economy.)
I'm not saying its all good, i'm not saying its all bad. But i feel the negatives are being over exaggurated and there is a lot of fear mongering in the media. Thats just my opinion. Portugal (which has the largest reserves in europe) has already started mining operations of lithium and they haven't disappeared from the face of the earth. Spain has similar amount of lithium as Serbia and they are also starting few projects for exploitation and they are doing it because it is a massive economic boost, so why wouldn't Serbia also do it?

The drinking water of 2.5 million Hungarians was contaminated, and the fishing industry suffered immensely. Serbia would be foolish to trust an Australian company.
