The intro on Nostalgic Moments (Unspoken Word) is the first song that I felt in my heart and took me on a journey I couldn’t explain! Buhlebendalo is really meant to really heal us through song. Keep shining Sis and healing us. Your voice is surely food for the Soul!❤❤🤗 I love you Buhle.

I saw a short clip of the part where she speaks about the history behind the term 'makoti' on TikTok and I had to find the full conversation. I respect what she's addressing but her information is not entirely true and it's misleading.
Here's a different perspective: During the colonial era in South Africa, African women were subjected to servitude as domestic workers/servants by the colonial government. These women came from their villages or 'home lands' to the towns dressed in their traditional attire for married women, namely seshoeshoe, doek and a shawl (tjale). This attire was (and still is) seen as beautiful and dignified in our cultures. Every culture has a way in which you can identify a married person, i.e. Europeans have wedding bands.
However, the white colonialists began to refer to the way married African women dressed as a "maid uniform" because all their African domestic workers wore it. In an attempt to insult and undermine our African traditions, and hopefully have us turn our backs on them and accept their culture as being the standard for beauty, as is evident in many aspects of colonial culture such as discrediting African hair and African features as beautiful.
The seshoeshoe, doek and shawl were never intended by us to be an ugly style of dress or perceived as being for servants or a lower class of people. Inheriting these colonial opinions about our culture and believing them to be true is letting colonialism win.

This is such a beautiful platform, I really like the conversations and knowledge that is dropped by every guest and the hosts, but it really burns my heart as a qualified Sound Engineer when the sound is horrible, I love uSis Buhle but I struggled to finish this episode because of the bad sound, I run an audio post-production company "TeeKay Media" and I'm offering my services to the channel for free to help with fixing or cleaning up the overall sound before uploading.

21:17 - 28:48 I really wish we come to a point where people stop killing people's dreams before they even begin. The entertainment industry is full of stories of people who were told no. I hope that people who say NO are basking in shame, as they realise that they are not God. Whenever you are in a position to give someone a chance, give them. Amen. 🙏🙏🙏

On the point that woman having to dance to get the attention of males, with reference to the "animal kingdom". I would like to differ because even in society today, men need to prove themselves worthy of a female mate and hence a man is "scrutinized" or "vetted" before the get the "girl" they are courting... Where things have changed is, in my opinion women don't understand their worth and want to equate themselves to men. I believe that women are supreme, by virtue of them just being born female, before anything else.

You're completely off in terms of that comment sthandwa. Wrong wrong wrong. Maybe if you had done about of research before accepting what your mom told you as word. You're sending the wrong message.

Lol she is actually correct. Maybe you should start doing your own research before you take every foreign word as slang. Every slang word comes from some language, mostly foreign, and were changed due to our ancestors not beeng able to pronounce them..

@@trustingnobody628 I get you. Anyway, they prove it as fact close to the end. A whole paper was written about it. It exists for not only the word but for other customs that we adopted as 'culture'..

@@lihlivangelin7521 i am not sure but if it’s by Prof. Phakend. The articles main focus is on the bridal attire and not aimed at cementing the origins of the term makoti. Hence even a discussion was brought forth for her to better comprehend what is actually in use. As even she identified that the term is foreign/new to the languages.
All and all the article is not there to prove makoti is a term all cultures use.
