Les Paul, Telecaster, and Strat are the most popular by many many magnitudes. These three are so good that most companies have copies of them.

Gibson had SSGs made at their Baldwin piano factory in China for music students and is a copy of a 1964 SG and I picked one up in a liquidation store for only $130.00 CAD. You can find them on eBay for about $200.00 USD. There are also the Epiphone copies which are considerably cheaper. Epiphone is owned by Gibson and I used to have an Epiphone E335 which cost me $800.00 CAD.

My personal favorites are the Les Paul with Humbuckers, Flying Vs, ES-335s, and super-Strats (with a humbucker in the bridge pickup position). Robin Trower went from Gibson in Procal Harum to a Strat on his own songs.

Colton let's see if we can get you dialed in on what you were watching. This video is about the guitar models only, not the maker nor the guitarist. When the countdown got to the Flying V, they showed Jimi playing his because that's the guitar they were talking about. They weren't talking about Jimi Hendrix, or the Strat, or even Fender. They were talking about the Flying V. Did you even notice they showed Lonnie Mack, Albert King and Dave Davies playing their Flying V's? Did you think that when Hendrix popped up he would be on a Strat if they were talking about the Flying V? The beauty of TH-cam is that you can replay any section of a video if necessary. I highly recommend it.

Because the maker of this video clearly has a bias toward Gibsons. Showing Hendrix on his iconic Strat would have been the proper thing to do, yes. It also would have reminded us that one of the best (if not THE best) guitarists of all time primarily played Strats. Jimi played a Gibson about 2 percent of the time and mainly in the studio... the rest of the time, he played Fenders.

Accoustic guitars don't count. They are all wood coloured, the strings are impossible to bend and have come in the same shape since the first one was made. The versatility of the strat should, IMO beat the LP. Just look at the various guitarists playing it: Mark Knopfler, Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie Malmsteen, SRV, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante, Jimi Hendrix etc etc etc
A Strat can be made into sounding like an LP, but an LP can never sound like a strat. The 3 single coils also provide far more options than 2 humbuckers..

Like it's definitely a superior guitar range to most of what you see out there. But sometimes I get bored of its range of sounds or feel and want to play the strat or lp simply because they're different. It's a personal thing for sure.

For the last 45 years or so I have alternated between saying the Les Paul is the No.1 guitar and the Stratocaster is the No.1 guitar. That was usually depending on which one I happened to be playing at the time. Eventually, I made a decision (or chickened out) a couple of years ago and declared them both as joint No.1.
I would have put PRS as No.2 and the Telecaster as a close No.3. I noticed that the PRS didn't even get an honourable mention in this.
One of the Honourable mentions, the Danelectro, would also rank fairly high on my list. I love my Danelectro, my Gretsch and my Ibanez but would have difficulty picking one over the other.
One day, soon I hope, I'm going to get a Rickenbacker. That will probably shuffle my list around again.

Really? Nothing from PRS? Not even a custom 24? Someone explain to me how an Ibanez made it on the list, but not a PRS?

The list is made by people who know jack shit about guitars other than the ones they see in guitar hero.

+Joel Glisson (Mirror Of Immortals) you fine sir are right. PRS are extremely amazing and Incubus used it as long as many other bands.

+Joel Glisson (Mirror Of Immortals) prs are my favourite guitars, yet i have to admit they are not as "iconic" as ibanezs. and since this is clearly not a top ten of the BEST guitars ever made but of the "most famous", then it's ok prs is not in here i think.

Why Ibanez? A ESP didn't even make it onto this list! Even PRS didn't even make it! WTF

Haven't watched it yet and already disagree. You can't rate guitars. It's all personal preference

I agree you can't rate guitars. They're all different. 2 identical Strats or whatever will play and feel different to each other. Yes, i do play guitar.

So true. The guitarist makes the dif.

But you can assess how iconic the particular instrument is and how prevalent it is in the music world. Both of those definitely are playing a major part in the rankings.

      You can rate music, though.
