- In 1979, Black Flag played their first show at Moose Lodge 1873 in Redondo Beach, California. Last night, more than 34 years later, Flag -- a group comprised of former members Keith Morris (vocals), Chuck Dukowski (bass), Dez Cadena (guitar/vocals) and Bill Stevenson (drums), with Descendents/All guitarist Stephen Egerton -- played the same venue to an invite-only crowd of less than 200 people.

I never thought I'd hear Keith morris sing revenge and it's perfect !!!!
It was magical
We've been hearing it since 1982 are you not aware of Everything Went Black?
Their version of MY WAR has got to be the most hardcore thing to ever grace my ears. Better than the original.
Maybe better than the album version.....but certainly not the live Black Flag version from Leeds Beirkeller in 1984! Nothing beats that gig for pure intensity!
no
@@terrypussypower nahhh this is better
No. Henry is this song, and this song os Henry. No debate.
I also remember passing Chuck as soon as it was done and saying "That was INTENSE" and him replying "That was FUN!"
Bob Lee he looks stoked, indeed
Cool. Which phone was yours.?
I would watch this version of Black Flag reunion anyway over anything that twat Ginn put together.
Bill Stevenson (best flag drummer) playing with Keith Morris (best flag vocalist) is just fucking epic!
I would rather see keith doing vocals for black flag any day. What a performer.
Yes, Keith has and will always be a Fav!
I agree
Chuck Dukowski's passion rules. I always loved him in Black Flag.
I really hate to say it, but this puts that recent Greg Ginn version of Black Flag to shame.
+terrypussypower Way better than the current incarnation of Black Flag.
doesn't bother me at all to say it. I payed money to watch shitty black flag with Mike v . the opening band was Gregg Ginn playing his fucking theremin for 45 minutes. pure shit. Flag on the other hand, incredible.
@@jedisok13 Lmao
deixa no chinelo
Back when both were on the road against each other, I saw Black Flag with Ron singing and FLAG in the same week. No comparison between the two, FLAG was far the better
It's super crazy how important Bill is to regulate this musical chaos!
These guys are twice as old as most bands I listen to, but still rock twice as hard. Fuck yeah.
Stephen Egerton nails every fucking solo amazing
as somebody who was there in the early 80's L.A. punk scene (i was a teenager and took alot of shit about it) i love the way the internet has given these older bands a whole new lease on life. bands like them, the buzzcocks, etc. have been exposed to a whole new younger audience that in many respects appreciates them even more than the original fan group and these guys can actually get out there and make a living at it this time (or something close).
and, for the record, i seen them way back when with DEZ singing i also then seen them at HENRY's very first gig in the L.A. area and have met and shot the shit with several band members and i must say every version of this band i've ever witnessed has been BAD ASS. even at this age they still "kick out the jams". alot of the people in that crowd weren't even born yet when BLACK FLAG was at their peak early 80's and let me go on record as saying that is a beautiful thing.
This could easily be the single show I most regret not knowing about nor attending. Thankfully, someone recorded it. Thanks for making my year.
Hey look, Greg Ginn has voted this down 51 times already!
lol
your a fucking idiot jhp40219
@@dyr234 are you greg ginn
As un cool as it seems the cell phone recording are great. I'm 51, I grew up in Southern California. If I had a cell phone back then you'd be watching everything from The Adolescence to The Zippers. Thought I might put that out.
Bill is one hell of a drummer
Saw Greg Ginn's Black Flag in Santa Cruz with Ron Reyes singing and they were good but I'd much rather have been at this show.
PUT DOWN YOUR PHONES AND DANCE!!!
This is so sad
@@PunkBoOcHeveryone’s having a good time tf are y’all complaining about

I hate when people live life behind a camera. It always bothers me to see people recording at concerts, it's like, why not just live in the moment and enjoy what is in front of you?
who says they aren't "enjoying the moment", people choose to do what they want during a show. Some people like to mosh and some people like to enjoy it on the side without getting their face beat in, to be a true spectator and bask in it. However, for those people who are on the sidelines anyways, they kind of might as well document to spectacle. I mean fuck some people like to actually document the moment, so that not only can they live the moment, but they can even RELIVE the moment. There ain't nothing wrong with that, to each their own. You go ahead and live in the moment, but I'm gonna thank the person who decided to "live behind the camera" so the rest of us can at least get an idea of what it's like. Especially those who couldn't be in Redondo Beach to catch this.
Stoney Bogart I feel like there is a big difference between someone documenting a moment, and someone just holding up their iPhone. If you are on the sides and you want to record, go ahead, but don't stand in the middle or up front and do that, because then you're ruining someone else's experience.
Doesn't seem to be the case for this show, based on the angle it seems most of the people recording it (including the one who filmed this) are all towards the left in the crowd. Away from the center. Plus, most shows, I've been to people either stay to the side and film or will get in the middle but briefly, still moving with the crowd (seen photographers especially do this masterfully).
I agree, last month I went to see Deicide and took my cell phone with me, and recorded just 4 songs, It's not fun to hold the camera and try to enjoy it. It was my first and last time recording a show, period.
suhijo
Yeah, about 5 songs too many. Props for realizing how shitty what you were doing was.
It must sadden Ginn to watch Stephen play his shit with such ease. Ginn couldn't play this spot-on if his kitty's lives depended on it! What The?!
It’s one thing playing it.....it’s another thing actually originating it!
I can play these tunes! It’s not that difficult once you get your ear in....and learn how to play 7th chords all over the fretboard!
38:20 Love how the kid picks up the set list and Keith takes it back
I love that Stephen is playing the Dan Armstrong that made it all the first time around!
Wonder if there's any pictures of this show
lol
Thats pretty fuckin funny!
lmao - that is great... It's state-sponsored spies collecting data. Just in case Keith runs for President one day.
All of em just fucking filming…. Like holly shit….
so sad to watch. the music is still kicking but the crowd is worse than ever, holding their stupid cell phones
i agree. they should have just enjoyed the moment.
Noel Thomas. maybe this was shot on a cell phone though, maybe i should just fuck myself and my comments. cheers
verbaledge Yeah what a bunch of decerebrated zombie assholes.
verbaledge best reply EVER(?). Seriously, no one can look at themselves in even the slightest critical way, publicly. I do it all the time. I suck!
verbaledge I know right? where's the moshing and stage dives?
Oh man, when I hear Six Pack, I really want to slamdance in the pit again!! But at 58, I'd probably need an ambulance afterwards! : ) Come play in Austin!
Great to see and hear you guys again! Miss those days. Aimee
Getting old sucks!😂😂
It didn't matter how many people would come to one of their shows they would always play their hearts out every single time they played!
Can I just say what a joy it is to watch Chuck Dukowski do his thing? He may be a bit grayer but he still holds it down like it was '81!
Wow, didnt think that Dez was gonna sing. I was stoked when he came on the mic
does anyone think Darby's ghost was bumping into everyone there asking for a beer?
I guess soo darby be like give me a fucking beer!!!
Yes, and eventually Jeffrey Lee Pierce's ghost bought him one.
Give me a dinner salad!
Dez was always my favorite Black Flag singer. Cool to see him up there
Dez singing "American Waste",fuckin love it!!!
Funny to hear Keith singing Henry era tracks
Well, Henry sang Dez era tracks.
And did it better
Qrayon did Dez record vocals for Damaged? It says it’s Henry, but it sounds nothing like My War or Slip it In. Plus, when I go into Everything went black to a song sung by Dez, it sounds like Damaged.
@@buzzardsinuses4780 No, that had to be Henry performing "Damaged", but I saw Henry perform "Jealous Again" with Black Flag live in the '80s. That's what I was referring to.
@@buzzardsinuses4780 that's definitely Henry on Damaged, listen to the No Policy EP by S.O.A. Fucking rad- its Henry before he joined bf
No band on earth can compete with this
facts
Glorious, just glorious. Seeing these guys playing in the South Bay warms my heart.
Go to the Green Day concert and throw shit at them! Lmao. HELL YEAH!!!
Have you heard Ginn's Black Flag yet? Coming from someone who could really care less about a Black Flag reunion, at least Flag are playing their old songs with some decent energy.
I came here to check out one or 2 songs then go to bed, but song after song was AMAZING and i watched the whole thing. cant wait to see them!
FUCK!!!! If I was at this show
Ill scream the lyrics unleashing
Anger!!!!
Bill is such a kick ass drummer. Never misses a beat. A human metronome...
This kicks so much ass 💥
FIRE!!!!!
I was there that night and watching this is making me feel the shit all over again. "Why would you throw shit at us? Why?" I have a vivid memory of Bill Stevenson at the bar being given a tiny Dixie cup of coffee and looking like a kid given a lump of coal at Christmas. Also the last time I saw Bill Bartel, right up front screaming in Keith's face,
Incredible was very lucky to see them in nyc 2013 w TSOL
Keith, I am still sorry.
Bitchin time so much fun. One of the most memorable days in my life.
Have only seen Mike v and ginn. So far I think they both have their respective qualities sound and Ways. Both are rocking either way.
Love how the leads are intact, even the Rise Above benefit shows and album couldn’t get that right
can't wait to see these guys, but damn this video makes me miss the good old days for more reason than one. most of all, there weren't 10000 smart phones in the air. just people loving the music
you wouldn't be seeing this without smartphones
Really? It says in the description that this video was filmed with a Nikon camera. So Im pretty sure you're wrong. Stupid fuck.
Dez Cadena back on second guitar! New Jersey is definitely in the friggin' house!!
This is one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. If it's that way through video, I can't imagine what these guys are like live. Fucking destroyed.
I may have posted before but I've just watched this again, maybe for the fifth time and have seen Flag so many times in person and it never gets old. Awesome! Thank you for posting this. Keith Morris: 'I'm a half Jew and Burt Reynolds might be my relative'. One of the funniest punk rock lines ever 😂
That moment when more people want to see all the old members of Black Flag play covers than whatever's left of Black Flag playing their music.
Exactly
BITCHEN. The genuine fucking article. Whoever shot this is freaking awesome, thanks for getting this down on video.
we're all getting a bit older huh? pretty awesome, but the crowds lame cell phone fixation takes away from it a bit.
Absolutely Earth-Shattering. Anyone who wasn't there at the end of the 70's and throughout the 80's when these songs were being performed, Check out FLAG if they ever tour in a town near you. It is like stepping into a time-machine to the past for a glimpse of what was, and never shall be again. All pretense and rhetoric aside, do yourself a favor and see FLAG Live. You might even love it!! IIII creepy crawl the moose lodge! IIII
Fucking absolutely Awesome, thanks a Million for posting!!!!!
Chuck looks exactly the same! The sound is MIGHTY! Too cool.
Love how Bill has his kit setup just like vintage Robo (horizontal cymbals) and I'm not sure if it's just a shared style, but his stick action is just like Robo's on vintage Target footage from the 80's. If intentional, it's brilliant!
The raised phones cant replace the raised fists of my youth.I am happy to still be living in the 20th,the last real century.
Ok boomer
keith morris is the proud owner of three different t shirts
My favorite version of Black Flag was always with Kieth. Hearing him sing My War and Rise Above was awesome. But if he’d never left Black Flag we would’ve never gotten the Circle Jerks. 🤘
The gig is already being photographed! Put your fucking phones down and start a mosh!
Is there any way I can give this more thumbs up?
I'll start with a hail Slayer because I love that sort of thrash along with crossover styles such as Excel and DRI. That said, I just can't play metal or even listen to anything complex these days. That would be the many metal genres... whatever. Point being: as a musician, and a fan, I'm quite thankful to come back to this music to see its purveyors tearing it up just as hard as ever. And that ain't no smoke for no ass. Bless these fucking human beings! The Ginn comments are hilarious, btw. Have a great fucking day, all. ;)
Bill Stevenson is a fuckin monster. He was probably the best drummer they had/have.
punk means thinking for yourself. so opinions are just opinions. Boy bands have a shelf life. This shit is timeless! I couldn't give a fuck if these guys were too old to even get the tunes right, this is the stuff that me and countless kids on the fringes identified with.
I'm an old fuck and i still hear every word loud and clear!!!!
A-FUCKING-MAZING. Welcome back fellas! Thanks for making the effort. This means a lot to me and many, many people. This is important music. So wild to hear Keith do "My War" too. Hope you're coming to NYC!
IIII 4EVER
I would be happy to be in the parking lot with the others not invited. I'm L.A. Black Flag let me in. I remember ending up in Torrance at the band Anti's pad. Till the sun came up.i think Jay Nall was lost in a webbed closet. Miss you Brother.RIP.
This is definitely more Black Flag than Black Flag.
Performing for an audience of cellphones.
This is so great! Seeing them in two days and psyched!
Put your cell phones away and get into it!
Amazing footage, 2/4 of BF singers in one show is the bomb! Can't wait until they play LA again!
i love how the whole thing is filmed on a quality camera and on youtube, but everyone in the crowd feels the need to film it themselfs. i dont know about most people, but i can never really enjoy a show if im trying to take pictures or film stuff during it. just enjoy the fucking music and save it in your head instead of using your phone as your memory
The only guitarist that could fill in for Ginn. Stephen is a guitar wizard.
Legendary line up. Bill Stevenson - fucking powerhouse. Hope they come to the UK. These sound really great!
I just crawled out of a coma I don't have ten more songs! Bahahahahahaha best thing I've heard all night.
Who cares about phones..? Egerton is KILLING it.. Of course along with the rest of the best band since Black Sabbath...
This is the best fucking thing on TH-cam !! HAIL MORRIS-HAIL FLAG! Right on!
Good job dude! Reminds me of those old school Vet Hall shows from the 80s. Solid lineup!!!
This is awesome!!! Must thank the person for uploading this. Black Flag or Flag it doesn't matter. This is punk rock, nuff said!!!
INCREDIBLE
They should play I Bet That I've Got Something Personal Against You... just for Greg.
I was just blasting Black Flag today after a LONG time on the shelf......and now this.
Gotta have Henry though.
Thank you so much for posting this.
nothing to say, this band still plays and is a kickass machine, and keith morris is a legend.like chuck dukowsky and the others ...but these things are so sad.
well, 'should go to listen damage.i love the black flag and they're in all these lp's and singles...these things are so fucking sad.
Oh, Fuck yeah! Feel that intense energy! Awesome! They sound great! thanks for fliming this.
Who are they gonna show those videos to? Everyone who would be vaguely impressed will surely rip on them for shooting it
Thank you for bringing the fancy camera out !!! this is amazing ... wow
2nd time I watch this...in 2 weeks!
YES!!!!
Been waiting for this for a long time!!!
Whoever says these guys are too old, or too slow or, whatever...
You just don't know what you're talking about!
Pay attention kids, and learn from the best!!!
Bands today are still trying to capture even an ounce of the energy we see represented here! Mailing it in?!!! Really? I don't think so!!!!!!
Tony Cicero
gotta love the photog in the doorway boppin' and singing along.......love it!
Jordans been around SST since back then.
This is slmply great. Looked like a fun party !I!i
I saw FLAG in Philly that year and they blew my mind. Fuck Greg. I saw the real Black Flag.
this is my favourite black flag cover band
This is really more black flag than the new reformed black flag is.
That Target video is exactly what I was referring to! I'm gonna see Ron Reyes and Greg Ginn's Black Flag show in Boston in June.CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!
I saw them in VA Beach back in July. Easily in my top three shows of all time.
If someone creatd a Ministry of Adrenaline, these guys would be in charge, without a doubt !
kuttersprodukt Ministry of Adrenaline.. hmmm. Can I borrow that? It would go to something that I'm fairly sure a person of such noteworthy commentary (that would be you you you!) could and/or would ultimately appreciate... and at least I asked first! :)
***** be my guest !
I don't even bother watching the video. I just listen to the music.
they got old? this was an invite only who, So i'm guessing this is old diehards, family and friends
Lol, If I were there I'd be thrashing so hard, there'd be beer spilled on the floor, myself, and everyone around me. You wouldn't want to have your phone out.
