  • (English below) Gameplay del 27º mapa de Doom 2, Monster Condo, jugando con Doom II Ray Traced, el mod que añade iluminación y efectos visuales avanzados con ray tracing al mítico juego de id Software, que cumplió 30 años hace poco. Lo juego en dificultad Ultra-Violence y obtengo el 100% de muertes, items y secretos. Resolución 4K con HDR activado, jugando con una RTX 4090.

    Gameplay of the 27th map of Doom 2, Monster Condo, playing with Doom II Ray Traced, the mod that adds advanced lighting and visual effects with ray tracing to the legendary game by id Software, which recently turned 30 years old. I play it on Ultra-Violence difficulty and get 100% of kills, items and secrets. 4K resolution with HDR enabled, playing with a RTX 4090.
    The video can be viewed in HDR if you have an HDR compatible display.

    Lots of comments about the effectiveness or otherwise of the ray tracing. I think Monster Condo probably benefits from it the most, and it looks better. That said, I tend to think if anything is wrong with it, it's that the colored lighting is overused. Even in PSX Doom it was a fun gimmick, but ultimately takes something away from the grittiness of the original maps. An ideal version of this mod for me would probably feature the dynamic lights and shadows, but not quite so much saturation. When we look at light refraction in real life it tends to (not always but mostly) be subtle gradients of light and shadow but seldom such intense colors. Even most bright sunsets don't bathe the world in purples or orange. Some tweaking and refinement to this, and the mod would probably be perfect. :)

    Ray Tracing does more harm than good in this game. It might look pretty, but what's the point if you can't see anything? 😕

      Why do you say you can't see anything? I've seen complaints rather the opposite, that it's all too bright. This map is in fact much more illuminated than in the original, which much of it is dark.

      @@DARTHVRNET Colors are way too pronounced. Everything is definitely too bright, blindingly bright in some places and situations, like this part: 4:19 - 4:50

      @@MisterMarin Both times is because I have taken the night vision, in that sense it is normal that it looks bright, but in the first one, I have also taken both night vision and invincibility, and it must be a bug or they have not taken into account that you can take both items at the same time, of course it is not normal that it looks like that, and not only that, the spectral pinkys are not even seen.
      Anyway yes, there are situations in which everything looks too bright and saturated, also is that I'm playing with HDR and it makes look everything brighter.

      @@DARTHVRNET Also, all monsters look like they're made of legos. I think Doom might be a tad too old for proper ray tracing. 🙂

      @@MisterMarin A lot of people asked for voxels in the RTX version of the first Doom, so I guess that's why they added them to this one.
