Oooooooh! YOU. Are a Godsend. An absolute angel! I'm a gardener and have had a few hits and misses and love it when others share their "what I'd do different" stories. I had a pittley greenhouse, lasted a year then I took it down. I'm currently building a cattle panel hoophouse and really appreciate the advice of what to do and not. THANK YOU! And good luck with your next one.❤
We used metal plumbers tape cut & bend to hold the panels it works amazing so far we've built a hoop coop hoop shed & hoop greenhouse ☺️ I put a open high tunnel trellis through out my back garden and more than doubled our growing space
Having built a hoop house I think that you did a great job building yours. I have had mine for a few years and I am getting ready to build a chicken coop to attach to mine but I wish I had built walls on mine like you did to give more height. I did have a fan running from a solar panel for awhile that worked fairly well but couldn't keep it cool enough without covering the plastic with shade cloth in the summer to make it useful. I used black zip ties to tie my panels together and I didn't notice any of them breaking.
If you used black zip ties they would blend in better and the black is supposedly more uv resistant than other colors. Overall looks like you guys did a good job. We have made all kinds of crazy greenhouses over the years trying to protect my tropical plants lol. Home depot sells what is called Landscape Timbers. They are 2x3x 8 treated posts that are squared off on two sides. You can cement them into the ground on the corners or wherever for reinforcement. They are way cheaper than 4x4x8 posts. I have had good luck with them. If you rent or can't cement directly into the ground..dig a hole and fit a 5 gal bucket in it..then cement your posts into that..then you can still remove them if you need to.
Look into the gridwall joining clamps to join your cow panels. I saw that idea from someone else on TH-cam and I think I will use that instead of zip ties. Good job on the hoop house!
Just a thought for each side: Run strapping from 4' up each panel and stake it to the ground about 8' out. It's prevented damage to our greenhouse like yours, except ours is 20' wide and 60' long. We get heavy snows in Colorado so we remove the plastic each fall.
your husband is right, those posts are great. Wait until you try to pull one out. They are tough to get out. Often taking some digging. If I were to attempt this.....I'd use them. I use them to hold up my hog panels in my tomato garden. Nice house, ya''ll knew what you were doing
@@susanturner5112 I built a 2 panel one that was crushed by a falling limb. I built a 4 panel one with a 2x6 beam that held up great. True, no trees fell on it, but - I later built another different style of cattle panel greenhouse (link below) and used the old cattle panels to arch over my strawberry bed. I stretched bird netting over them and joined them with heavy zip ties but no beam. The bird netting allowed snow to build up in the winter and bent them all out of shape. It's just my feeling that when 3 or more are put together the whole thing can sway, even though you have a front w/door and the back joining the panels together, there's nothing to support the weight of snow. If you live in a no snow area, I suppose it might not matter. It doesn't take that much to do it and it makes for a way sturdier structure. Here's my new cattle panel greenhouse design. th-cam.com/video/jUcXq0C30XQ/w-d-xo.html
Just subscribe to your general enjoy it I'll be watching more we're gonna put a hoop house up this year but I got a greenhouse so that's what we're doing Stay safe and have a good day
Ventilation is your friend, even when its cold during the day. Mine is 8x16 and it took me a while to learn how to use it because of the extreme changes in temperature. I had 40% shade cloth on mine this year and that worked well. The window opener works great until about 15-20 degrees F for a few nights, then the seal breaks and it doesn't work anymore. My next one will have higher side walls but I don't have wind issues like yours.
@Petals and Metal Flower Farm I think what is best after considering other options.. rebar wire ties, with a automatic tie twister tool. I want my connections to be secure and long lasting. :)
@@PetalsAndMetal I will definitely get back to you. I will be in my new house on the 15th of April, I do want to have that finished by the end of April, I am working out the dimensions and material list soon. :)

I'll need to look metal plumbers tape up as I'm not sure what it is. Don't you love how easy these are to do?

We just had more zip ties break with a little more bending of one of the panels. I need a windbreak!

Oh, I don't know...after looking them up, I'd be really afraid the screws would work loose. Let me know how it works out for you!

Thanks for the tips. I think you could replace your TSC green posts with rebar and hammer it in.
I'll certainly consider that when I feel I need more support. Thanks!
@@PetalsAndMetal paint your larger rebar with rust paint before putting in soil, just a tip for you if you use them..

Thanks for your comment. We had a bad storm come through the other night and it's still standing 😊
This is awesome!
I love it! Still standing and just had it's 4th birthday. Or May it's 3rd, lol
Well done great job for the hoop house👍
Thanks Frank!
Great info!

You bet
Thanks for some good.info. I'm building my frame now for.my hoop.household
You're welcome! Good luck with yours and happy growing!
Thanks! Good job.
Thank you!
Great job!
Thank you!
A ridge beam for support the long way would have prevented that damage and 2 cross support braces
Nice set up im building one with a 3 foot wall
I'm planning 3' walls on my next one so I can go wider. Will most likely do some support too. Thanks!
Thank you
How did you attach those vertical studs to the 2/4s on top and bottom of side walls? Did you just toenail the screws?
Yes
Anything more than 2 cattle panels needs an overhead beam running from front to back
I'll keep that in mind for the next one!
What has been your experience that you would make this suggestion?😊

Will def use those next time. Hopefully someone will see your comment and save themselves some aggravation.
