  • Instructional video with complete procedure and tricks on how to remove or replace tail lights on a S212 Mercedes Benz E Class station wagon (model years 2010-2016). In this video it's a E63 AMG Wagon but it should be the same for all variants. Possibly very similar procedure on the W212 (sedan version) as well.
We specialize in wrapping cars and NEED to take them apart in order to do a good job. Every now and then we stumble on difficult or tricky to remove parts. If the web doesn't offer sufficient information (posts, videos) on the subject, we will attempt to fill the void, as is the case in this video.
We hope this video helps out a few of our viewers. Don't forget to like the content or subscribe to stay tuned on future uploads.
    Thanks!

Ended up being fairly simple, i did not remove the inner black felt cover, since i didn't want to break the black plugs, i just lifted it up and worked underneath it, the biggest problem was locating the upper nut.
Once i found it, i pushed the foam to the side and un screwed it.
The nut fell to the bottom, but not a big deal.
Remove the gray foam at the bottom, and you can fish it right back out.
Removing the tail light took a little wiggling, but it came right out.
Installation of the upper nut, i used a dab of grease to glue the nut in to the socket, didn't use tape.

With this video I was able to replace the tail light of my S212. Thanks a lot! Especially the tip with the tape is excellent!
    Two hints:
1: removing the clips @1:03 is not necessary - just bend the cover to the side
2: removing the clip holder @4:30 is not necessary either - I just used a long ratchet extension for the nut and a screwdriver/needle nose pliers to get access to the nut

Very helpful. Just a few things which may help others:
    1. The big white connector shown is not the one which needs disconnecting. This is a smaller black one fixed in the rear of the lamp unit and is a little tricky to remove because there's no slack on it.
    2. My 2015 250E has a remote rear seat back release built into each tailgate pillar. This gets in the way of removing (almost prevents) the upper fixing nut, already difficult. To remove it, pop off the plastic cover by pushing it firmly forward and out, then remove the two nuts (10mm across the flats) securing the release assembly to the car. It takes quite a bit of wriggling, but it will come through the hole in the door frame.
    3. Sticking the nut to the socket it essential; the studs protrude at an unhelpful angle for nut alignment and it would be easy to lose the nut. I used thin double sided tape for this.

Ok so heres the deal for anyone with the facelift model 2013-2016! As one guy mentioned the rear top nut is located behind piece of foam(you won’t see the nut you need to remove it),the bottom rear nut is located behind the rubber cap(easy access ) the front nut is located behind a red plastic band(you cannot miss it,easy access ) ! As everyone stated use tape for the rear nuts so you wont loose them! Another tip is for the rear top nut i had to remove the plastic for the rear seats and also move the trim behind away(be careful not to brake it) I didn’t had to disconnect anything apart from the light switch (obviously ). Hope this will help you. Btw most of the other nuts around are 10 mm so can’t get it wrong

Your video was very helpful during my install of a stealth hitch on my 2016 e400 wagon - thank you for posting it!
I found the third nut position and tape tip particularly useful.

You mean, screwing the nuts back to hold the tail-light? No, not at all. Just need to be careful not to drop them. To make sure of this, I use a piece of masking tape between the nut and the socket to hold it in place
