I love how the posters keep replacing themselves - not the most obvious detail but kinda shows how when you're attempting to do something, especially when stuck in your room, it feels like you just keep having to do the same action again and again with no real impact.
near the end when you rip the picture off the wall only to look behind you and see that it's still there is wiiiild!! it really makes it feel like she's trapped which is so cool
I love how there's the posters of you in a jumpsuit becoming more sad throughout the video, then a double in the jumpsuit standing behind you, then finally you changing from these fun, colorful outfits to the same jumpsuit. I feel like it represents becoming disillusioned, even though hints of that doubt were always there.
Tessa and her songs vibes with me so much. The song is indeed dark. It's like she is suffering from major depressive disorder where she has insomnia throughout the night , she keeps thinking and blaming herself for what she speaks and what she does. She wants to be the best version of herself but she can't seem to do it. She tries to be happy making her schedule tight so as to keep her mind off things she shouldn't be thinking. But as seasons pass by, she gets bored of boxing herself in, being locked up inside her own mind. She feels she has to end her life (hence ending what she started). She wants love and respect from the people she deems her loved ones but they fail to reciprocate to her, hence she feels lonely. She is hurt but she keeps it to herself. She's bored of the whole cycle of waking up and doing what should be done but not really feeling anything about it. She wants to break the cycle but it's hard. She is in a trap. Her rhetorical question " Is this all there is? " is showing a nihilistic view of her thinking. She feels there is nothing in this world than feeling hurt, mistreated and feeling shitty about herself. She becomes a prisoner of her own mind
i love the end shot where it slowly zooms out and theres a kind of muted panic on your face which reflects the mood of the song and the middle 8/end of the song, its so cleverly done and makes s o much sense
also I really love how the posters changed from fun decorations giving the room a lighthearted feel to watchers that almost guard tessa in her room as if she’s a prisoner
I love songs/music videos like this. Speaks deeply to the bullshit im going through, but is still art that has care and meaning behind it. Small stuff like how the pictures change. Reminds me ive been self isolating well before quarantine. I hope I can make something thats this meaningful someday
the way the photos slowly evolve into something more and more sinister each day is so so cool, especially that in between stage where the poses haven't changed but the facial expressions have??? it's so eerie and i love it
I didn't notice that!! What I did see that I thought was cool, was how every time she broke a picture, it replaced itself. I didn't notice the pictures changing though, that's so cool!
This is so cool and so terrifying and so painfully accurate all at the same time. Sorry you had to go through the experience that led to writing this song, but HOLY COW.
This video hits different when you're struggling with work. I used to brush over this as a relateable anthem (not to downlplay it, it's just easy to market it like that), which I'd rather avoid as it coincides with something I reoccuringly go through due to my anxiety, but atm I'm getting depressed from the little work I produce. "excited with my words, but I'm nervous and I'm '*bored* " I'd feel good if only I could finish what I start" It probably comes from a different place, but when I listen to this with this sort of subject in mind, feeling "bored" becomes disassociation x saturated routines and online habits x avoidance x procrastination. I try not to think about it though.
"You think that I could sense a trend" Tessa Violet, choosing to make a video about being stuck in her room, just before EVERYONE got stuck in their room.

I honestly LOURVE you, Tessa. I'm also bored of being awake. Been 7 days since I slept. You remind me of a great friend I had/ve named Elissa, I loved her so much and never told her, just shared your music with her the last time we hung out, she loves you, too!
I find the part where the repeating phrase “is this all there is” slowly blends into “all there is is this” so interesting. It holds so much meaning and it’s kinda genius.
Tessa is so ahead of our time she gave us the quarantine anthem before quarantine even started (and now we have a perfect visual confirming it what a queen)
Holy shit, I was expecting some kind of resolution or catharsis, at least in the video of not the music, but no. Tessa gives it with double barrels of no bull shit honesty. That is genuinely terrifying and amazing. Absolutely crushed it.

The ending stands out to me. The repeating lyric of "Is this all there is?" makes the listener assume that a refrain of the chorus is approaching. When it doesn't, and just ends, it creates a sense of dissonance with the listener that is topically relatable, pandemic and all. It seems to have an existential theme, as if it was saying that this is the world, good or bad, but it's made bearable with each other. Very similar to a Carl Sagan quote. I don't know. Definitely helped me. Thanks!
i'm crying so bad, my whole family is just staring at me weirdly how was this recorded before all of this it feels too close to life rn I completely broke when the door handle fell away
I love how *nighttime* and *daytime* portray such different feelings in this video. When the door knob comes off, suddenly it's night. It seems like everything becomes dark with the realization that she is truly trapped. Then, when she thinks of escaping through the window it's back to light, like there's new hope. Finally, she finds the outside is just painted clouds, there is no hope of escape, and it cuts to dark again!
i love how in her tiny room she's surrounded by pictures of herself - not just the three big pictures over the bed, but also the bad ideas ones sticked on the side wall. she doesn't have friends, she doesn't have a family, only her own company and that's what drives her crazy in the end
... i can't be the only one who started crying halfway through because it is exactly how i feel for the past few months the visual just made the song come to life even more so i just sobbed-
It seems like the computer is something that keeps her entertained throughout the day but for some reason, it doesn't work at night. That's when all her thoughts consume her (the hands). The glasses filled with water only appear at night so that might represent use of alcohol to keep the thoughts at bay at night
It's almost like the computer has a list of tasks for her (or is somehow in control of the situation). It's like her phone. She could find so much online, new songs to learn, make-up tutorials, but she's still trapped. We're all going to have to write her a 1200 word essay on various parts of the video now. :P
I relate to this far more then i should. I love how the video shows her outfits changing as she does stuff and that hit different in quarantine because all the days are going by so fast and it doesn't seem real. And the way the computer says rebooting day like it's the same day over and over again and i really felt that. I wake up every day , get dressed, do my makeup, do my chores and then watch tv for the rest of the day. I love this song so much and thank you so much, Tessa, for writing a song i can really relate to. Yeah that's it, sorry for such a long comment, have a good day!! EDIT: Umm okay, i just noticed that at two minutes and thirty three seconds there is a second her behind her!! Did not notice it until now!!!!!!
One of my new favorite artists. These videos have been popping up on my feed; everyone is hyper creative. Kudos to Tessa and whoever she is working with.
I just want to say I've never related to a song as much as to this one. I was there when it premiered and I find it hard to describe but it so accurately depicts how I feel a lot of times, mostly when depressive state strikes.
One thing I love about this song is that it also describes the ADHD experience perfectly. Tessa’s lyrics helped me understand my mental health on a deeper level. I’m not lazy or worthless, my brain just gets bored.
YES!!! i also have adhd and another singer that has impactful lyrics is orla gartland (tessa's friend!!) i really recommend why am i like this and overthinking, i found that people who enjoy her work usually follow Tessa as well
I love this video, and am fascinated about how this seems to be a visual spiral into depression almost? The first day, the images were happy and the character found genuine joy from her daily activities. Day two has the pictures in the same pose but no longer happy, and the character was clearly not enjoying her day even though she went through the motions. And day three on the pictures are just her staring blankly forward, no longer able to even pretend to be happy with her life. Absolutely love it!!
TESSA! I can't put into words how much I LOVE this video. This song was already one of my favorites and now I love it even more!! I watched this with my husband, and I was reacting out loud the ENTIRE time. Like, everything about this video is incredible: the concept, the execution, the acting, the aesthetic, just EVERYTHING. I love it, I love it SO MUCH and I dON'T WANT TO SHUT UP ABOUT IT
oh shit, I hadn't made that connection!! It really does imply how you start to wear down over time when you feel isolated (both physically and emotionally) and because of mental health struggles.. just damn
@@edensylvester13 wow that is true, after all some might be obsessed with hatred fueling it... never made that connection! Wondered how I can be so self obsessed and not hold that much love for myself, learning & trying to properly love myself tho uu
During the loading sequence, the text flashes "shadow self", "addiction" and "loneliness". The code at the end, just before the credits has a part that says: "self.chunks.callback self.searchlight**friends self.identity/lock". I feel like the searching for friends code is linked to loneliness, while the lock on self identity links to shadow self. Addiction is seen throughout the video, in the numerous glasses of water scattered around (a drinking addiction) and a dependence on technology for entertainment and connection.
meekakitty has changed so much. im so happy to have been a fan long enough to see all of this shes created. i know tessa hasnt been "meekakitty" for a long time... but thats who she was when i stumbled on her channel years ago... i dunno. its just occurred to me. its nice.
So far, what I can notice is: - That she is trapped (duh), signs of this are the orange jumpsuit (probably simulating a prisoner), the fact that every "day" is the same, the fact that she can't go out even if she really tries or the arms grabbing her. - That the place where she is, is not other than her own mind (that's why it's not possible to get out), and "Money Rabbit" (the computer), is probably her trying to entertain herself in order not to be bored and thus not bringing up her bad thoughts, but this machine doesn't work at night, so there is nothing stopping those thoughts. - That these thoughts are probably her, being frustrated, because she can't love herself, even if she really tries (we see plenty of photos and portraits of herself trying to get used to her imperfections). (My reasoning for this is that, at minute 2:32 she appears behind herself, showing that she is not pleased of the image she has of herself.) - That the lyrics show that she isn't pleased with what she does or her habits "wish I weren’t so self obsessed", "wish that I could be the best ", "I’d feel good if only I could finish what I start" and many more. - That when she is asleep, or trying to sleep, her mind stops her bringing up those bad thoughts of herself. - That she feels alone being trapped inside of herself. So overall, I'd say that what she is trying to say is that she has try to love herself many times, but she just can't help it, she makes a big thing out of nothing and she feels bored from trying again and again and hiding it behind bland activities that do not satiate her need of feeling being loved; maybe because she thinks that nobody could love her if she can't even love herself. Extra: I'm so tired, I should have done this tomorrow. I want to note the smiley face on the mirror on the reflection of "Money Rabbit", I have no idea on what it could represent. I'm really sorry if it is hard to understand my not so great English. If you think I'm mistaken or if I've missed somthing, feel free to point it out. :)
On a stream, Tessa said the smiley face in the mirror was an accident that they forgot to edit but a fan mentioned they thought it was supposed to symbolize how you can put on makeup as a mask to give off a happy face when it's not the truth. Tessa really liked that interpretation and said that if she had thought of it she would have left the smiley face intentionally for that symbolism so its now the "official" meaning. Great insights tho!
What small details have you found in the video so far? What do you think they represent?
i think you behind yourself means self sabotage?
Not small, but the window, it really is a big statement of "YOU'RE STUCK HERE"
The pictures in the back are changing
I love how the posters keep replacing themselves - not the most obvious detail but kinda shows how when you're attempting to do something, especially when stuck in your room, it feels like you just keep having to do the same action again and again with no real impact.
the end pose matches the pictures behind u and idk what it means but maybe that means something lmao

GeneralSarcasm I KNOOOW it’s so stunning!!
a r t h u r i continue to lose it!!
Королева 😍
🥳🥳
One of my new favorite artists. These videos have been popping up on my feed; everyone is hyper creative. Kudos to Tessa and whoever she is working with.
staring so intensely at tessa at the end kinda hypnotised me
One of us.
for a second i was like why is google chrome commenting on a music video
TESSA WHAT IS THIS SCARY VIBE OMG THIS MAKES ME NOT WANT TO SLEEP
it's not sleeping, its rebooting 😳
Tessa Violet said no sleep for you
That's just the hidden vibe of the song. :P
me in the first minute of the video: this video is going to be fun
the rest of music video: *GETTING SO INTENSE*
it tricks you into a false sense of security
There is so many layers to the video! I feel like each time I watch it I see something new.
I know right!! I mean, I didn't expect any less, but it still tricked me!!
I just want to say I've never related to a song as much as to this one. I was there when it premiered and I find it hard to describe but it so accurately depicts how I feel a lot of times, mostly when depressive state strikes.
haven't watched it yet but i know it's gonna be AMAZING
natalie mOOD
this is my favorite black mirror episode.
This is my favorite _______ is my favorite _______ joke.
same
That’s so true
One thing I love about this song is that it also describes the ADHD experience perfectly. Tessa’s lyrics helped me understand my mental health on a deeper level. I’m not lazy or worthless, my brain just gets bored.
YES!!! i also have adhd and another singer that has impactful lyrics is orla gartland (tessa's friend!!) i really recommend why am i like this and overthinking, i found that people who enjoy her work usually follow Tessa as well
This song is so real, if it didn't have such a triumphant and up-beat music I wouldn't be able to finish it without crying.
THIS WAS AMAZING!!!
Omg right!!!
i know right!! there were so many cool easter eggs!!!
Your seriously here?
Quarantine anthem of 2020♡
awhh the room re-ordering itself when it gets smashed, the match cuts across lighting and outfits, chef's KISS this is good
Far too attractive to ever find yourself bored. To call u Adorable falls tragically short of the true depth of your beauty. Wow. Keep being u
took a couple tries to read this, but yess! she’s beyond beauty, a literal goddess :D
I love it, I love it SO MUCH and I dON'T WANT TO SHUT UP ABOUT IT
Interesting how in the beginning she said she was self obsessed, but at the end she was really sick of herself and trying destroy her pics
oh shit, I hadn't made that connection!! It really does imply how you start to wear down over time when you feel isolated (both physically and emotionally) and because of mental health struggles.. just damn
I mean self obsession doesn't necessarily have to be self love
@@edensylvester13 wow that is true, after all some might be obsessed with hatred fueling it... never made that connection! Wondered how I can be so self obsessed and not hold that much love for myself, learning & trying to properly love myself tho uu
Yeah

After following Tessa's music for a couple years now I finally just heard Bored on my local alternative fm station. It was a little surreal. :D
Can't believe this quarantine anthem is so current now
Edit: So we learning the choreo for tiktok???
oh totally this choreo is perfect for tiktok !! she been knew
Yes. And make a compilation for the TH-cams.
oh my gosh yes I support this 100%
definitely make tiktoks
YASSSS
"I'm not a dancer" *busts some epic moves*
she keeps saying that and then goes and dances
she really did
THAT'S WHAT I SAID
I KNOW RIGHT
Stosswalkinator lol
Well I'm definitely not bored now - How could you be while listening to and watching this amazing vid? :D
This is amazing
Your ideas are amazing
During the loading sequence, the text flashes "shadow self", "addiction" and "loneliness". The code at the end, just before the credits has a part that says: "self.chunks.callback self.searchlight**friends self.identity/lock". I feel like the searching for friends code is linked to loneliness, while the lock on self identity links to shadow self. Addiction is seen throughout the video, in the numerous glasses of water scattered around (a drinking addiction) and a dependence on technology for entertainment and connection.
So cool! I hadn't made that connection until just now, thanks :)
wow
In this essay I will
Seriously all of the thought and the themes in this video are just amazing ❤️
@@MariaMarsbar and it's catchy AF
* commences to replay video over and over again *

👏👏👏
@@tessaviolet Quaranqueen, got you on my screen 🎵
I like the fact that all her vids are aesthetic and this ab this quarantine am BORED too:)
Tessa: It's 4 am again
Me: That's an awful lot of sunlight for 4 am.
That should have been her first clue.
THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER
Already SO COOL
meekakitty has changed so much. im so happy to have been a fan long enough to see all of this shes created. i know tessa hasnt been "meekakitty" for a long time... but thats who she was when i stumbled on her channel years ago... i dunno. its just occurred to me. its nice.
HER HAVING THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES OFF THE ENTIRE 2ND CHORUS THO
the symbolism is beautiful
Oh
I swear each time I watch I see something new! Same thing whenever I look down in the comments lol
Nice look too!
So far, what I can notice is:
- That she is trapped (duh), signs of this are the orange jumpsuit (probably simulating a prisoner), the fact that every "day" is the same, the fact that she can't go out even if she really tries or the arms grabbing her.
(My reasoning for this is that, at minute 2:32 she appears behind herself, showing that she is not pleased of the image she has of herself.)
- That the lyrics show that she isn't pleased with what she does or her habits "wish I weren’t so self obsessed", "wish that I could be the best ", "I’d feel good if only I could finish what I start" and many more.
ohhh just got the jumpsuit thing...
Money rabbit is a joke from twitter! hahah
@@JONESversion Oops, i did not know that :P
this is such a fantasic comment! really good insights
She really made the perfect quarantine anthem and didn't even know it 😍
Wow. Been feeling exactly this the last few days. Spot on
