I just bought this drum. It’s like a cute little BMW car that gets you there with ease. Very musical and a luxury. It’s sounds best at a lower volume if that’s your thing. Personally I think this snare is a home run.
Love love LOVE internal mufflers on snares. This just shot to the top of my want list.

@@travisbaiera7961he has a lot of different ways of holding the sticks and hitting the drums. I think it’s cool that he can switch to these weird choked up styles to get a specific sound

I love Gretsch drums but do we always have to hear the cliche lines “ my engineer asked me what kind of snare is that”?lol
I always wonder how many engineers can actually play drums..and well. !
Truth and I tuned one of these snares and I couldn’t get it to pop for nothing. However I have had engineers stare at my USA customs for minutes on end to find out they were amazed at the sound of them and didn’t even eq them they just ran them dry. I have had this happen many times live as well so it does happen but to me this snare is not in that category of great sounding. Maybe if it had like a set of 20 strand snare wires verse 48 it would pop more.

Hot damn I’ve always thought Sonor SQ1 was the kit I’d be going for soon when finally picking a top of the line kit but after hearing the Brooklyn I’m not so sure. Amazing drums!

As a gigging drummer ('til Covid), and being the lead singer, I have to set up a kit and my PA ech night, 'cause nobody around Colorado gets 2 nights in a row, I can only bring one snare, and I have learned to use it in different genres by playing differently, Mine happens to be the 8 ply maple Ludwig.
Actually in the market for this snare vs a couple others. Great video to go deeper if your local shop doesn’t have it.

Gretsch made a great maple snare a few years ago.
Made in Taiwan, it had a fabulous sound and was a lot less expensive than the Brooklyns.
It shows you don’t need to be made in the USA to sound good.
I have one with wood hoops, have been getting a lot of compliments through the years.

I just got your snare. Just thought I would ask if you can post some of tunings for the snare, low medium and high. If you can perhaps give setting with either the drum dial or tune bot. I really like your tunings and would like to try that sound and those are the 2 tuning methods I use as well as my ears but am always looking for new inspiration. Thanks again.

To cover all basis Mike’s presentation was spot on, and I enjoyed that! Learned new things from the other two players BUT their more importance on dressing the part instead of playing and speaking the part... was very distracting. It took away from the drum from the entire film. Everybody’s a star or forcing it 🙄... fantastic 👍🏻 film overall by Gretsch and thanks to Mike’s analytics of GRETSCH DRUMS provided a resolution for MID, LOW, & HIGH PITCH SNARE DRUM TUNING and that’s just 😍 FABULOUS! 🙌🏻🔥 SHALOM ✨🕊🥁

I have a Gretsch maple snare made in Taiwan and it runs rings around my much more expensive USA made Gretsch Brooklyn COB.
It’s up there with my Supra and Slingerland Artist Model snare.
So much for Taiwanese drums being inferior.

No difference at all. It is still a USA-made drum in the Brooklyn series. And they sound incredible too.
@@gretschdrumsusa well there is the dual 45° bearing edges v/s the normal 30° bearing edge and the different hardware, just preordered one with a usa bronze snare, can't wait to have them here 😀

It’s my favourite metal....Gretsch make great bronze snares.
What’s the difference in build between this and a regular Brooklyn 5.5x14 snare?
This one had double 45⁰ snare bed to accommodate the snare wire amount

I know - I was fully expecting it to sound like didgeridoo duct taped to the exhaust pipe of a 1985 Buick Skylark. Oh well....maybe next time.

I used to think like that too, and it bothered me a lot, but is important to try and listen to it, I purchased one, never thought I would buy a poplar drum, but I forgoten about it.
Lots of very popular vintage drums used poplar plies. The wood gets a bad rap because the wood is seen in many beginner kits but being a porous wood isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially when sandwiched between a denser wood. Not sure about the sonic properties being in between hardwood plies but I would think it would have something to do with vibrations and how they are absorbed. Or maybe it's just an easier wood to bend and glue. If the drum is in round and the edges are to a tight tolerance, poplar's presence won't hurt the sound
