The Song "Wild Autumn Wind" by Caladan Brood is the reason I started getting into Black Metal at all. I was mostly a fan of Power-Metal, but after hearing the epicness of Wild Autumn Wind, I wanted to hear everything that's even remotely similar. GallowBraid, Sojourner, Elderwind. Eldamar, Windir, Windfaerer, Heretoir, Saor, Vvilderness, Can Bardd. The list might not end.
Can Bardd - Devoured by the Oak is some of my favourite stuff. Melodic, beautiful, clean singing / growls. Majestic. Nice introduction, easy to listen and enjoy
Great picks, another few I would recommend are Wolves in the throne room - two hunters The ruins of beverast - rain upon the impure Falls of Rauros - The Light that dwells in rotten wood Yellow Eyes - Rare Field Ceiling
Barely a minute in and you already mentioned Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. Couldn't agree more. Det Som Engang Var (the song from the album HLTO) is to me the quintessential Atmospheric Black Metal track.

Great list! Fantastic starting point for anyone interested in the genre. Only thing I would adjust is mentioning Agalloch over Gallowbraid since Ashen Eidolon is a straight Agalloch worship album. Both are incredible.

Is Solitude Aeturnus in your album ranking plan? I think they are in the same level as Canlemass but they are not mentioned enought and would be great to see what you think about their albums.
I would say it's black metal with the satan stuff toned down with more of a focus on melancholy, nature, etc Also the song structures are usually much more drawn out, with a lot of influence from folk

Not unlike the waves by Agalloch is the song which dragged me into Atmospheric black metal.
Agalloch's first 4 albums are atmospheric as f*ck and one of the best bands ever along with Drukh.
Check out Narjahanam and Al-Namrood, they are Oriental Black metal bands from the Middle East, it gives that dark atmospheric Middle Eastern vibes 🤟
Maybe some ruins of beverest too.
