For me Opeth Should've stop at Watershed I don't even hate new Opeth but I think their OK albums at best for me i liked the new album but it doesn't reach the same highs along aside with Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Still Life Damnation, Ghost Reverise and My Arms Your Hearse like I never thought it would be AOTY for me because it's continuing that something that what I don't love about new Opeth in my opinion.
New album is is a multi layered Masterpiece. It's eery, atmospheric and in equal parts beautiful. It fits the story perfectly and it really does reward repeated listens, getting better every time. Dare I say it, but there's even a Mr Bungle vibe to some of the tracks and vocals, which is a compliment.Definately my AOTY.
6:10 Dude I realized this while listening to Blackwater Park this week. It is very much like Still Life, but it has less of that haunting guitar and creepy acoustic which I love on Still Life. The pianos on BWP, gives it a slightly different mood. It’s so true though. The riff style and so many things are similar. Not bad because both albums are awesome. Still Life is one that GRABS you. I was so convinced it was my #1 for a while. Then I just fell in love with My Arms Your Hearse so much, and then Morningrise more and more as well. Every Opeth album is absolutely fire 🔥 Unique and amazing. I need more time with this new one, but it is just insane and I am very blown away by it. Even by Opeth’s standards, it’s out of this world.

Pale Communion is one of the best flowing Opeth albums, period. Marrow of the Earth is one of the most beautiful and introspective tunes ever. Allting Tar Slut is the best doom song ever. Love seeing My Arms and Deliverance so high - both are absolute monsters. Also, the remixed and remastered Sorcerees is coming out anytime (according to Fredrik). Stefan Boman remixed it and it's supposed to be amazing and it sounds "killer" according to Fredrik.

Im with you. I think they are the current and have been the greatest living band for a long time now. No album is less than 8 and half the discography at least is a 10. So hard to rank but despite Testament joining the legion of 10s, my top of S Tier is still jointly held by Still Life and the gripping Watershed. Opeth simply are STUNNING!!!!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 ..... controversial but Heritage chaos is my bag as is the fantastic Sorceress. So they are in the 10s for me and i go back v often to those. Love the ending of video😂😂😂😂
Man I love Damnation too, Im so happy to see someone put this in S tier. I absolutely disagree about Pale Communion, I think its an amazing album. So many great songs on there to my ears. I agree about Sorceress, its their worst for sure. It has very dull production and aside from title track, its very meh.
In cauda is the truest opeth album of the prog and jus amazing. I haven't watched this at all yet, jus wanted to say that. Because that album fly by people that didn't listen to it enough to know it. It's too tier opeth, which is why he moved in, he perfected the prog era with it. It's epic n dark

They're about equal when in the same tier. The Last Will and Testament has grown on me a lot as well. The 9/10 albums are anything between 9-9.5. They are close to 10, but they have one or two songs that I would rate 7-8 (in terms of enjoyment), which brings them to 9/10, though they probably are 10/10 in general terms. I have the 10/10 albums and Damnation on vinyl. Probably getting the other 9/10 albums soon, but Deliverance is rare and expensive for now. One day, I'll probably have all of their albums on vinyl, but there's many other albums that I want as well.
The weirdest thing I think Mikael ever said was "We didn't master Sorceress because i can't understand what mastering is" Of course he knows what was he on about haha, It ended up sounding very muddy an worbly at times right?

My very simple tier list: S) Blackwater Park A) Still Life through Ghost Reveries B) Everything else. If I had to pick a least favorite it would be Watershed as it just felt phoned in. "I'm bored making death metal but not yet ready to commit to Prog Rock" and just such a quality drop following Ghost Reveries.
Top 3: My Arms, Your Hearse, Deliverance and Watershed. Bottom 3: Heritage, Sorceress, Ghost Reveries (yes! pretentious drivel). The new one is smack in the middle of it all. Average for Opeth, but a 3.5/5 so still pretty good.
Opeth fan since forever, 1997 I guess, but I still don't like My Arms, Your Hearse. Never did, never will, I'm afraid. For me it's the weakest of the metal albums

I don't like the new one. There isn't one memorable moment on it. In Cauda was FULL of them. I'm disappointed honestly.

I didnt like it before because of the production but I powered through that and I like it very much now, I play it front to back regularly
