Arica, thanks so much for sharing the book you read and the importance of creating. I think as stitchers, we inherently know that it is good for us but it is great that there is more and more evidence to support the importance of our crafts/hobbies/making. Your projects are beautiful! I am so looking forward to watching your progress on your Peacock. I have never stitched a Chatelaine but they are gorgeous! Thanks as always, Arica. You are a joy to listen to/watch/learn from! Happy stitching!

I started quilting when my mother died because she left many almost finished quilt tops. I watched youtube for tutorials which led to flosstube and cross stitching. At 70 I find myself meditating on my life and all the wonderful experiences and friendships I’ve had. I also come to terms with the negative things and put them aside.
Since I do mainly larger pieces, I don’t give them away. I make quilts and pillowcases as gifts but something that represents a year of my life I keep and enjoy. I do that for myself. Stitching really helped me get through covid. I actually started my first project in Feb. 2020, a month before lockdown.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story! How lovely you have been able to adopt moms quilting projects and give them life :) and yes learning to set aside the negative stuff is key - I couldn’t agree more! I’m happy to hear stitching has been a source of strength for you :) Happy Stitching 🧵 🪡

Hi Arica - Try a pet store for walnut shells - it is called lizard litter - hoping that does not turn you off. 😁 Crafting: Since I sewed my clothes all my life and started doing knitting and embroidery about 50 years ago, I have to say that needlework of all kinds is my passion. I also have made my own cards (paper crafting) and have a tool to do burning in leather and wood which I have plans for. With all the leftover fabric from making clothes, I need to start quilting. Not all of those fabrics will be ok for bed quilts but the rest would be goo for art quilts or wall quilts - the kind that depict people, scenery, architectural elements, etc. One of our Embroidery Guild members in Winnipeg does that and she has shown us some of her pieces at our monthly "Show and Tell" and they are just beautiful.

I love all of your videos. I can see why you and Samantha are BFFs;) Your information on being a maker and the amount of peace it brings is so true. Sometimes when I am working a lot and forget to do nightly "making" (knit, crochet or cross stitch) I become very grumpy. Making at night and during my "breaks from work" really do bring me at peace. I have tried to pull my friends into "making" but they all seem to think you have to be "very talented" or an "expert" which is crazy. We all started somewhere right? I also remind them that in "pioneer days" the women weren't educated and were able to do EVERYTHING. But, they would rather be stressed out and miserable lol but who knows, maybe one day I can get one of them to join me in this "making" way of life. Anyway, thanks so much for the information and the videos:). You are great:)

Then I knit a duplicate one to the same length and then switch back and forth. When I'm done with one, the other one is done too. It's the only way I could keep from getting second sock syndrome. 😉

I have a nice start on the TK biscornu, but I misplaced my pattern 🙄 so it’s been in timeout. I found walnut shells as “lizard litter” at the local pet supply store. A huge bag was less than $20.

Hi Arica, I enjoyed hearing about the history of crafting, if you will. I’m sure you have said before and I just don’t remember, but do you stitch with 2 strands over two on 32 count? Mine seams bulky, but 1 over two seems sparse. I’d love to share stitching with my granddaughter, but she is 9 and just not interested. My daughter-in-law has mentioned doing craft parties at her farm, so maybe something will come out of that!

Hi Karen, yes I stitch 2 threads on 32 count. What type of thread are you using? I find 36 count to be the cut off for making the move to 1 thread but even then, depending on the piece I may opt to do 2 threads on a 36 count… the farm idea sounds really fun!!

Hi, loving all your videos - lovely information. A source for Gloriana thread might be Mr. Frame in St. Albert or Mr. Frame in Edmonton. The long time cross stitch store called The Craft Connection retired and Mr. Frame purchased her inventory. I would buy my gloriana floss from here. Great service and speedy shipping. (I live in Fort McMurray so they are the closest LNS!) Good luck with your search :)

Thank you so much for that tip! I will log on today and see if they have what I need - I’ve never even heard of them. I assume they are a framing shop? Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment :)

Another great video! I have some of the same "resolutions" as you and find stitching and crocheting a great outlet for me. I have actually been thinking about starting a group at my church to bring together other stitchers/crocheters who want to have that community. And also to others who may want to learn. So "to be continued" I guess. I can't wait to see the results of your new project that you got as a gift! Looks so pretty! I live in the US but the company I work for is based in Vancouver and I come there a few times a year. Maybe I can pick one up the next time I am there! And...I think I might join the SAL with you and Samantha. I have a dragon pattern I (barely) started so this may get me a little more exited about it. Have a great week!

Thanks for tuning back in! You know, for the last 10 years there’s a local group of ladies where we rent a space in the basement of a church on Thursday nights and it’s a drop in evening. We all pitch in $50 for the year and then we can drop in any Thursday we want. We stitch, sew, craft, play games, some just drink wine. It’s a great community builder and creative outlet - we have to build the village!
I’m so happy to hear you will be joining Sam and I for #yearofthedragonsal ! Which pattern are you stitching??

I am stitching the Rainbow Dragon from Artesy. I started stitching it but I haven’t gotten far which is good because I’m not happy with my fabric. So I’ll be ordering new fabric this weekend and will have it in time for the SAL to start. 🐉💕.

Fox and Rabbit have a TH-cam channel and they tell you on there what’s going on with their fabric and who’s carrying it.

Diamond art is pretty addicting stuff! Lol. Whenever we have it out myself and all 3 kids have a hard time walking away. What is your current diamond painting a picture of - a dragon perhaps?

@@FibersandFlossCanada yes I ordered two for the year of the Dagon. A very large white dragon and a much smaller of two dragons fighting.
