Take these entitled women, and imagine they just passed the bar exam to become lawyers and decided to throw a raging party instead of wanting to extend. One of them was really drunk and thought it's ok to assault hotel employees (me) for asking them to keep the noise down. We had to have the police physically remove them. Then they tried to press charges against me for unlawful entry, and claimed I broke into his room and assaulted him. Even though we had several witnesses and plenty of proof, and the right to enter our own property that they were trespassing on, the hotel didn't want to go to court and paid the guy off. That was the most betrayed I've ever felt in my life.

I’d love to see a skit about misbehaving teenagers and their terrible behaviors. We’ve had kids jumping in unison in the elevator resulting in it freezing and fire department being called to rescue them. And them taking all the ice out of machines on several floors to use in ice bucket challenges - their screams resulted in other guests being moved and the kids and parents being evicted. Then last week kids pranked us by dumping all the soil from several huge planters into the pool. The
cleaning, draining , and repairing damaged pumps cost $$ thousands - that made the prank a felony!

Had a group of kids stay at a hotel I previously worked at, they decided to jump into the pool from the balcony, there were SIGNS saying not to do that as the pool isn't deep enough. They would also jump off the stairs into the pool, also very dangerous, the lady at reception had to go up to the pool, since she had watched them do it on the security cams, and she ended up being yelled at by one of the chaperones, who told her to tell them if they misbehaved again. If any of these kids had hurt themselves pulling their stupid stunt, the hotel would have been buried in legal fees, especially if they broke their legs from the impact of landing on the bottom of the pool, or, even worse, spinal damage from said thing.

Sometimes hotels don't list all of their rooms on 3rd party ticketing sites, but are reserving them to sell directly (because they don't have to give the booking site a cut). So it might be possible to get a room directly from the hotel by calling, or using the hotel's direct website.
But in this case there was a known event that these guests were attending filling up all the available rooms in this city, so it's likely that all of the rooms will sell out by the day of the event.

Something a bit different, but it happened to me that, on a trip with my boyfriend, we couldn't book any double room (only twin rooms were available). We booked a twin room, but at the front desk, when checking-in, I explained to the staff that we actually were looking for a double instead of a twin, but we didn't see any options, so I was wondering if perhaps all the rooms at the hotel were twin rooms or if there were double rooms but just sold out for that weekend. They super kindly asked me to wait for a moment and came back after a few minutes telling me that because of a cancellation a double room was indeed available, and they gave us the option to choose. I just asked a question and they offered me the room we were looking for!!! ❤
Of course I didn't expect that to happen and I was super happy with the result, and I do understand that, however, things like this might happen if you're lucky. What I can't understand is that some people assume that there IS GOING TO BE a cancellation so they will have guaranteed what they want that wasn't available when booking the room. Like, do they also assume they'll win the lottery absolutely every week?? 🤣🤣🤣

@@boilerfan18 Not all guests know this, but as a rule of thumb, if you book third-party, then your agreement is with that third party, and you can only talk to them. The hotel (airline, etc.) can't do anything about it, because it's not their agreement to modify.
Another way to think about it: The third party has booked a block of rooms in advance for some pre-negotiated rate, and is then reselling those rooms to you. The hotel is just responsible for handing out keys and such, they don't get to decide who stays in those rooms on any given night. (The actual terms of these third-party agreements will vary, so it's not necessarily _exactly_ like booking a block of rooms in advance, but it usually looks pretty similar to that.)

@@LilliKitti529 The short answer is, you can't extend; you have to make a whole new reservation if you're going to stay longer. How it works is, you pay the third party, then they generate a one-time use "virtual credit card" that only has enough money on it for the room rate and tax for your stay, then the card number stops working the day after you check out.

As security for a hotel, that was easy. Try having them refuse to leave, PD arrive and breaking door down because they've barricaded themselves in so room door destroyed, bathroom door too because they've barricaded themselves there next. And we were also just on a trip and asked for a late check out upon arrival. We were told from the beginning that it wasn't possible so we adjusted our plans to account for the extra hour we needed ourselves. They stored our bags for that hour and we ate at the restaurant and we were able to retrieve our bags when it was time for the airport shuttle. Easy.
I know it was different scenarios, but if you can't get a late check out or extension you have to figure it out yourself. You don't get to whine to the staff.

this reminded me of a time in our bed and breakfast in a very (!) rural area in another country. By rural I mean the nearest city was 2 hours by car away through the jungle. We had some people who wanted to extend their stay by two days during peak holiday season. when they booked we had told them that we could book them only for x days but they wanted x+3 . My dad was very clear on it. sorry, we have other people booked for those days. they thought they could just bully us and stay anyway and refused to pack stating they had train tickets only three days later. They went on a walk and my dad had me and the staff go in and pack and place their belongings outside. Boy, they were MAD!!!! None of the other b& bs in town had vacancies, what were they to do? My dad got them to the train station and told them that was all he could do. they slept for 1 day in the train station (it's horrible there) and then a kind villager took them in. They had the gall to complain about the food and sleeping on a cot. The cot the villager vacated for them so they could sleep there while he and his family slept on the floor. I think being told No was just foreign to these folks.

So we rang the hotel directly and they were able to get us booked in for our entire 2 week stay - but at different (in some cases much more expensive) rates for each night, with three different confirmation numbers (before, during & after the convention). I emailed the convention hotel liaison and she said that I had actually spoken to hotel call centre and I should have gone to get first (I did but she didn't understand that the convention link wasn't working for me) but then a week later she came back with a booking for our entire stay bar the last 2 nights on the convention rate. Yay! (The last 2 nights are twice the price but worth it to but have to move hotels, in my opinion.)

Just like in the skit, I had to explain in painful detail that, no, I can't do that, why I can't and no, these events never have cancellations because the people coming in have been planning for this since _last year._ I even had a few try to guilt me by boohooing about sleeping in their car all weekend to which I just half shrugged and said, "Well, at least this spring weather will make that a little more comfortable." As much as I wanted to, I didn't add "The Big 5 across town is having a camping tent sale if you're interested," as that might have been a bit too much.
