    I just finished restoring a 1963 Corvette Split Window and I am starting another split window build but this time its a race car build. I will be making videos every Friday. I will be making videos on my 1963 Corvette Split Window, my dad's 1965 Corvette, my race car split window build, my friends 1960 Corvette, and other projects that I find along the way. Let me know what you think about the video. Enjoy!!

    What do you think about this car? Let me know! If someone buys it for 50k and puts a 25k rs chassis under it, spends 25k on fiberglass, and 10k on the cage. You would have a nice Restomod project ready to go for 110k. It’s big money but that’s not far off of the going rate.

    Thanks Mitch!! Douglas here with Dusty Cars. We purchased the 1963 Coupe your are discussing in Klamath, CA, and it had been sitting for decades. We purchased it along with a 1966 427ci Corvette Coupe that was in better condition (sold). We have restored many cars, predominately early Porsche models, so we are familiar with extensive metal work/fabrication. I was sad to see the condition of the birdcage as you describe, but I was happy non-the-less to find such an interesting old Corvette. Compared to some of the Porsche 356 projects we have done the metal work on this Corvette seems doable. We know a fabricator in Concord CA that might take it on, and he is extremely talented and reasonable. Your information on what is available is extremely helpful for whoever takes this on. Your tutorial here will save someone a great deal of time. Thanks again for the lesson in Mid-year Corvette restorations. Extremely informative. -Dusty Cars

      Hey Douglas thanks for watching! Also thank you for saving this Corvette. I’m sure some people would have sent it to scrap or cut it up because they didn’t know what it was.
      I really appreciate that you guys documented the condition very well. I’m on the other coast and I saw everything that I needed to. I hope the car goes to a good home and if the buyer needs any tips or if they are interested in a body rebuild send them my way. I can help them out if your fabricator doesn’t do the work.
      I’m not very knowledgeable on Porsches but I definitely appreciate your inventory. Thanks for watching and best of luck with the sale! So far my guess for the price is looking pretty good!

      @@MidYearMitch Hello Mitch, unfortunately I have no idea where it raced, we purchased it from a sister who's brother owned it and is no longer around. It was in California near the Oregon border so I suspect it might have been raced in Southern Oregon, but really I have no idea. Thanks :)

    As a body man and sheet metal fabricator I would say having a jig and a decent car to take reference from would be the only way most people could do that project successfully. Definitely a project for a skilled craftsman that has access to those resources

    Very interesting, this place is a few miles from my house, any I have two SWC’s. One is 340hp with power brakes and I got it to Top Flight at NCRS a few years ago (a 95 point car) that I bought for 18k in 1980, and the other one is 300hp but has been “California mods” from 1970? With slight flares, and 3 tail lights etc. my plan is to restomod it. Bought it more recently. But for now working on other cars. Thank you Mitch for your channel and info, and your prospective. George.

    At $59k, with nearly 5 days to go! I'm glad the seller put the rusty photos in the description, but I still feel like whoever buys this is going to be very disappointed once they take it to a restoration shop and find out what all it needs. Or worse yet, I'm afraid they may actually get $tarted with a restoration shop and have a lot of money already spent before they realized what all it is going to take.

  • @petem6291
    @petem6291 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I dont think a lot of people understand the difference between a restored car. And a car that is build from a small collection of useable parts This Corvette would have to be build by a shop that has done alot of these cars and has a lot of experience. The customer would have to understand they would be replacing 98% of what they started with ,on day one . but in the end it could sell for a half a Millon dollars ? on a investment of 2 years of time and 120.000 $$ I would like to see a fallow up video down the road ....

    It's only worth fixing if it has the higher horsepower engine and 4-speed transmission. If it is a base engine with a powerglide, it's not worth the effort.

    • @MidYearMitch
      @MidYearMitch  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s hard to say if it even has the original engine. The engine was decked at some point and it has a 3 speed in it currently. It’s going to get Restomoded if it comes back to life.

  • @Simon-d8n
    @Simon-d8n หลายเดือนก่อน

    I seen a few of these cars for sale. Over the years. Like myself I just would not touch something this big of a problem project. Unless it has sentimental value. But hey someone may. Do a resto mod. Or something I guess. .. I rather keep my money in the Pockets myself. Kinda looks like the one that was in west Auckland. Years ago. It sat around for like 20 plus years in a shed in a old chicken farm. Kinda looks like same one.

Or the new owner will see this video and say, "oh crap what have I done"? It's going to take a lot of effort. Best of luck to the new owner, I hope they don't give up.
