    I'm glad I watched this video. I think my guide rails are not spaced like the sainsmart either. So not quite plug and play.

    I've been on the fence about extending my 3018.. but I think you have me leaning in that direction. Clock turned out great!

    Definitely worth it. Good upgrade mate!
    My 3018 already machined itself into a 800x600 with HGR15 linear rails. 😅😅
    The clock turned out really good. 😍

      I haven't done any guides so far. Sainsmart have their own videos showing how to do the upgrade that are really good.

    Hi!
    You have the y-axis upgraded from 18 to 40. Is it possible to upgrade the x-axis too from 30 to 50 or 60?

  • @donochetti2177

    The extra size is great but I'm thinking on adding supports underneath the spoil board because there is quite a bit of flex due too the new length of the *linear rods *. I'm even wondering if my up-cut bits are flexing the spoil board up when cutting deep tool paths.

    • @TheSwedishMaker
      @TheSwedishMaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Supports is actually a good idea! I havent noticed that much flexing on mine though.

    I just started trying inlays with my 3018 Pro and Easel. What feed rates did you use on those cuts?

    • @TheSwedishMaker
      @TheSwedishMaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went kind of slow with at around 400mm/min and 0.2mm per pass when cutting the hard wood.

  • @BigScottTheNetworkGuy
    @BigScottTheNetworkGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love that clock. What material did you use for the backing? Would love to see a tutorial on how you made the clock pattern in easel. I have tried a few things but I have had little success . I am new to CNC/Easel, but have been working with wood for years.
    As far as the 3040 upgrade, I went with the Aluminum HDF Spoilboard kit to go with it. It seems very rigid. I found that I had to move the X/Z gantry pretty far forward to maximize the actual useable work area. I am currently testing with the back of the gantry @ 140mm from the rear plate. With this setup I still lose about an inch of Y work space that I am not sure how to recover.
    With the Aluminum HDF Spoilboard kit, I also found that because of the way the board has to line up with the aluminum pates, it moves the nut seat forward just proud of the Sliders. This causes the coupling (that connects the stepper motor to the lead screw) to hit the nut seat and this also took away another 1" of work space. To resolve this I turned the spoilboard around 180° and reclaimed almost all of the 1" of work space.

      The backing was valchromat, colored through MDF basically.

    I want to mill/cut small parts from aluminum, but I've seen the spindle just flexes too much for any precision. Are there upgrades/mods for that issue??

    • @savrtuthd
      @savrtuthd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check out techydiy's video on upgrading the 3018 with a 500w spindle motor. The increased power will make machining aluminum a lot easier, also the mount made to accomodate the larger spindle motor has great stability.

    I learned a lot from your videos but now I need help: I have the 3018 pro but have replaced the spoil board with one 300 x 360 and using Easel basic (free version for now) but when I select other (3018) the work area automatically defaults to 30 x18, I would appreciate any guidance you may have making the dimension change to 300x360. Thanks

    • @TheSwedishMaker
      @TheSwedishMaker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be able to create a new machine in Easel and set the dimensions to that machine and it should stay that way. From the menu Machine - create new machine

    • @billlester3088
      @billlester3088 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your response, however if you could visit the easel site you will find that under MACHINE you will see that under other the only opportunity available is either x carve or 3018 pro.
      Thanks again

The extra size is great but I'm thinking on adding supports underneath the spoil board because there is quite a bit of flex due too the new length of the *linear rods *. I'm even wondering if my up-cut bits are flexing the spoil board up when cutting deep tool paths.
