Gold is also one of five metals on the periodic table of elements considered permanent since it does not vaporize, it does not dissolve in water, it does not rust, it does not spontaneously combust, and it is not radioactive. It became the perfect money, as did silver. Everything else is just credit. The dollar, the pound, then yen; just credit. Currency. Not money

Gold does go to vapor anything does if you get it hot enough... And it does also oxidize (rust) though very very slowly compared to other metals. It is not permanent nothing is except energy.

Interesting documentary. Watching the massive accumulation of gold by China, India, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Singapore, UAE, Qatar etc, global central bankers are buying and storing gold at a rate not seen in more than 50 years. Financial markets and gold are signaling future economic distress and a return to high inflation.

This documentary on gold has a huge gap which is the story of India in gold, even today the highest amount of privately held gold is with Indian women. Gold is embedded with Hindu customs and culture. India has a history of more than 5000yrs and gold can be traced all the way back, with many gods representing the gold and wealth, both male and female gods.

I hear you, but the documentary is more about gold as money and wealth as opposed to cultural relationships to gold that are non-monetary. Not saying it shouldn't be covered, but it's probably more a topic related to Indian culture specifically than the overall topic of using gold as money.

I never understood why gold cost so much. It's not good for anything until recently. It's too soft to make anything useful out of. The only thing its good for is to make jewelry out of. And that's no help to mankind. The only thing is useful for is to coat other metals that transmit electrical signals. At least diamonds have a use.

When you use it as a material for your art you certainly feel as if you could never have too much of it: it's incredibly frustrating when a design can't be made because you haven't enough gold to spare or because it would cost too much to be likely to sell without some fashionable label appended to it.

Medical,et al - Even " Golden ARMS " all flippancies aside , The arm s of IVDU'S is worth thousands of Dollars after years of addiction. The prospects of Mining in Space on an Industrial scale is to be found in Science Fiction , not only in Literature , also in Film ,etc. "DUNE " & S, and a mutitude of Star Wars, and a multitude of others. It's the sparkle. The love of that sparkle is deeply imbedded in human beings because of the constant search for water during our hunter/gatherer days (which seems like it was short but 80% of the time human beings have existed we were hunter\gatherers.) That sparkle on the horizon was often the difference between life and death. Water is important.

2:13:54 You need to define your terms. "Inflation" refers to an increase in the money supply. Something that cannot happen on a gold standard. But does when a government thinks it can control that which deserves to be free. "Prosperity led to inflation" is one of the most patently false claims I've ever heard.

  • @stevenfairless4931

It is a gauge of prosperity, and corruption. I wouldnt say its the most beautiful element, but it makes a nice frame for gems .. beauty enhances beauty ... like family enhances marriage. Some politico's fester corruption and rob families of their gold, a sliver at a time.
