    There is no bad weather, only bad clothes, learn that rule and you'll be okay, it's like the number 1 rule of Norway together with be nice.:P
    PS: If you can walk to work you don't need a car, you need a bicycle, or just toughen up and enjoy the weather.

    My Norwegian (Bergen) husband watched about 30 seconds the video and said, "So many words about the weather! Why not, 'It's a lot of wind. Stay inside'?" I had to share.

      +Sonya Harmon Holtar haha I can understand that. When you grow up with a certain type of weather it becomes almost unnoticeable. For me it's the constant sunny warm weather of southern California. Some people think I'm nuts for leaving such "perfect" weather, but for me there was nothing exciting about. I got more or less bored of it. Now with all the different weather that happens here I actually get excited to see the changes.

    I appreciate these videos so much, and the fact that you're from Southern California seem to add to the whole "wow factor". I'm a Norwegian who love the US, I've spent several weeks in New York State as well as a month in Florida, and I always wanted to go to California, and I feel even more in awe of you, since the transition to the Norwegian climate must seem even more extreme when you're used to the warm climate of Southern Cali... But then again maybe you're happy as peach that at least you're no longer in danger of any 1) earthquakes 2) mudslides and 3) forest fires???
    As far as feeling the House moving from the wind, that's almost harmless, seeing as houses in Norway (and Sweden and Finland) are often built from VERY SOLID wood - as I am sure you've already noticed if you ever tried punching through a door in a Norwegian house... so it would take a LOT to move that house of yours. So if you ever feel the house "moving" from the wind just think to yourself that your House LOVES it, it gives the building some action and Entertainment. The entire Norwegian coastline is FULL of several hundred year old wooden houses who loves the wind and the salty wind from the ocean, and you'd need a sledgehammer the size of Donald Trump's ego to bring those buildings down. They may be wooden buildings, but as opposed to the wooden buildings of - say - Florida, these houses were put together to keep mammals warm in the ARCTIC WINTER so they can take one Hell of a beating. If you live in a wooden house a couple of decades old chances are this house will stand for several more centuries. The creaks and moans is the house having an orgasm from being part of NATURE.
    As long as you yourself doesn't go wandering near the coastline on your own as the ocean is crushing in, you'll be safer in a typical Norwegian wooden house from the wind than the the US president would be in a top secret bunker!
    This video showed a glimpse of some big white wooden houses at the coast, it looked like some classic 18th 19th century wooden buildings, so like I said above; they've taken a beating from the coastal winds for CENTURIES and they're still standing and look fine. As long as these wooden houses have PEOPLE living inside of them they'll serve you well, and there is no worries.
    There is the saying from the Norwegian Founding Fathers of 1814, who was inspired by the great American Founding Fathers of 1776... After they had written and agreed upon the Constitution they ended with the motto of "Enig og tro til Dovre faller" which means "United and Faithful until Dovre falls", Dovre meaning the Mountains of Norway, and rocky Norway isn't really prone to Earthquakes etc, there is just too much... uh... ROCK... So basically you yourself is living in one of those typical solid-as-heck wooden houses (made up of all those massive pieces of wood) planted firmly into that Dovre-ROCK so it would take a nuclear blast to move your house. That being said: I'd love to hear if you've given this much thought; the whole topography and geology of Norway as opposed to California, I mean California has the friggin' San Andreas fault and all that...?
    I hope you get the chance to taste real good quality GRILLED "hvalbiff". The problem with whale meat is that if it is a little OFF it will immediately taste DREADFUL, but if it is good it will taste AMAZING.
    Anyways, keep doing what you're doing, all the best to you etc and yadayadayada. All the best to you and your loved ones in Western Norway and in the great US of A. :) Peace and "Ha det bra!" :)

    It sounds like the wind we have living up on the hill here. When the valley gets breeze we get terrifying gusty nights that we wonder if the house is going to stay rooted. ;) It's amazing what you will get used to. Wind and rain.. not so fun. Nice video.

    I live a few hours away from you, and earlier this week there were so much wind and rain, even HAIL... And of course thunder and lightening. Like, I am kinda used to it, since I've lived here my whole life, but gosh I get scared every time when it gets extreme.

    Probably the same storm that was ravaging around here a few days back, I'm guessing? I live just outside of Bergen, so a bit further south of you. Was quite a lot of rain and thunder throughout the week, though not much wind. Too bad, I very much love strong winds. Hate rain, but love the wind. Guess it picked up a bit by the time it came up to you.
    Never had whale before. Granted, it's probably rather expensive, seeing as it's such a delicacy, and my family's never been on the delicacy side of the economy. :P

    Do try whale meat! Once I had a whale carpaggio in a better restaurant in Oslo - wonderful. Myself I am more used to whale beef stew. I have only used frozen whale meat. It is dark, lean, tasty, with a eensyweensy taste of fish. Pleasant. What I do is: Cut the meat in large dice or slices. Salt and lots of black pepper. Sear the meat in the pan - use real butter for this. Take out the meat, it must not be overdone. Deglace the pan. Cut a couple of onions in rings, fry them softly and nicely. Then make the sauce from what you deglaced the pan with, some cream, perhaps some sour creme, all the onions and more pepper and perhaps some soy sauce ad lib. Make a good potatoe mash, preferably on mandelpoteter. Three minutes before serving, add the meat to the sauce and let it be warm. Now - eat. Bon apetit!
    Love your videos! :D

    From Southern California to Norway weather?!? WOW!! Maybe you should have moved to where I lived, on the east coast of Lake Ontario in upstate NY. The wind there could get very bitter. Add an average of 185" of snow a year, some good beer, or some wine...you've got a party. Being from upstate, I could get used to that weather. I'll take the cold over heat any day!! Hello my cousins in Norway!!

    Does California even have weather at all? I live in New Zealand and this seems like a typical storm out around the coastal areas.

    • @AMERiNORGE
      @AMERiNORGE  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Severen Redwood yeah in southern California (where I'm from) we have sun, hot, brush fires, and a few days of rain we normally call floods and landslides. Sometimes we get the Santa Ana winds which can be strong but they are a very dry and hot wind that typically help fan the fires. The immediate area I lived in though was located such that the wind would lose power before getting to us. When the fires would get really bad there was a hill I would go up to get a view of the basin there I could see where the winds were by the wall smoke being blown west out to sea and then curving to the south. Kind of an interesting sight that would also create stunning sunsets.

    • @severenr
      @severenr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, I remember someone in my English-Norwegian language exchange group I'm in saying California has one season: summer. Where I live in New Zealand it's either sunny or pouring down, usually the latter.
