I think one of the things that disappointed me the most was that nothing was done with wormwood. He's one of my favourite characters purely based on how interesting I think he *could* be, but they still haven't actually done anything to make that a reality. It's such a missed opportunity for him to have absolutely nothing interesting to do or say about any of the new lunar content.
It’s weird that even though wormwood is a lunar incarnate, the gestalts treat him like an outsider, if they rework wormwood, they should have the moon treat him as an ally and maybe give him lunar powers like a special bloom state anywhere with enlightenment meter
Well… not exactly. You see, if you think about it, Wormwood was only made by a tossed away crystal, probably never noticed by Alter or the gestalts, so it makes sense that he’s treated like an outsider.
I think it's cool how the Waterlogged update changed the boat mechanics to make them faster, people have been asking for it for ages. Another change that I think deserves to come to the game is a boss nerf; bosses such as Bee Queen are almost impossible to solo without some huge cheesy method, and it's part of the reason why I don't play this game a lot anymore. Edit: Lol a lot of people are trying to give me a tutorial on this game, fyi I've beaten Dfly, Klaus, and Bee Queen all solo. I know that the game's supposed to be hard, but it's not just that, the bosses are unbalanced. Beating Dragonfly is a whole lot harder if you're playing Wilson without placing walls or end tables.
As of that update they feel amazing to control, there's actually enough time to react and dodge an oncoming sea stack. And yeah, although people often say 'but the game is meant to be played by multiple people,' in that case there's barely any difficulty at all. Plus it can be difficult to find groups to play with etc.
Bro, u can kill bee queen at day 7 as wendy (without cheese), search on TH-cam some bee queen rush, if you main other character you need to prepare gear to the fight (and yes, it is possible but is very expensive), you can kill bee queen using 4 pan flute plus gear(armor, magiluminescense, etc) or making a path to avoid her minioms (you also need speed boost(magiluminescense and walking cane if u arent wolfgang) and remember you can change characters in DST, in my world in changed to winona, made a lot of catapults and changed to wolfgag to kill bee queen, it worked, i spend some helmets(im lazy so i didnt make beekeeper hat) and a lot of pierogis.
Bee queen is easily do-able with the right amount of armor, heals, and items, search guides on it, simple , the game is supposed to be hard and takes time to get good at, its either not your game or you just didn’t take the time to get better at the game, I admit the game the hard, its meant to be hard, I highly recommend searching videos on what u need for most boss fights, the boss fights are still very hard for new players with proper gear, you haft to put a lot of time into DST to get good at it compared to other games
@@dosrai yeah I totally agree. I often cheese it as Wendy, wicker or willow. But found it really satisfying to do it with good kiting, batbats, and 4 pan flutes as wormwood. Was a cool challenge. I think it's cool to have both easy ways to do bosses (dfly with walls, ancient guardian with pillar, bee queen with Wendy or a maze) and also no cheese ways where it takes time, the right gear and a bit of skill.
Yeah bro I’m not gonna lie, bosses do not need a nerf. The game isn’t meant to be easy. Bee queen is difficult to beat for the first few times but there are lots of options for solo play such as Wolfgang, volt-goat jelly, Wendy for BQ specifically They’re definitely hard bosses, but once you get the hang of them you won’t feel the same. Pan flutes for bq is the way I do it every time, i wouldn’t really call it cheesy but it is definitely really effective
overall, i like the new updates. i just wish there was more story to them, and definitely an easier way for noobs to know what's going on. some wormwood dialogue would be excellent as well.
Its probably the shadow creatures as when saying "them" it often references to the shadow creatures. There is some evidence for it somewhere on the internet but i cant provide a source

Excellent video, Freddo. I have around 700 hours collectively of Don't Starve & Together, but played them years ago. With all of the content and stuff to do, it's almost a turnoff coming back to this game - it's overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I love this series and am happy it gets as much care as it does. It's just a little staggering how much there is and what has all changed.
There is definitely a lot. The most important thing to remember is that it's all optional, the core gameplay is still the same, and most of it is non-intrusive to the average playthrough (except for Reap What you Sow probably). At least until you get bored and run out of things to do.
I guess you already need the bundling wrap for Pearl's cactus flower (not really necessary but still...) and since CC counts as an endgame boss I don't see the harm to ask players to kill bee queen first
After Taking Root, Wagstaff does have some new dialogue... After handing the enlightened crown shard to him to trigger the lunarrifts, he says: "You and I are going to change the world." It's so wonderfully ominous.
The Celestial Champion reminds me of the boss named Yami, from a game called Okami: same weird ball thing, glowing, changing forms and just wreaking havoc
THIS. This was so useful and exactly what I was looking for. I dont even think people realize how useful and important videos like these are. As a new player, you just start exploring bits and pieces, expanding as you go. But as a returning player, coming back to a full batch of new things can be more confusing and harder to grasp than starting from scratch. That's why videos like this help so much, it gives insight in all the new parts in chronological order, filling you in on what you missed out without having to go hunting around for each little bit of info. I would love a video along the lines of "everything new in DST in 2020" for example but this is already more than good enough. Thank you for that and hopefully you can group up a few more things as I was surprised by seeing several mods added as content like renaming and taming beefalo and dropping items on the ground where you stand. Ill look around your channel for other similar videos and really, thank you for this
I personally have a love/hate relationship with the idea of not explaining anything to the player in regards to how the game is played. I honestly think it’s super neat, that you have to see what others have done and continuously learn how to progress by trial and error. However I do think it’s a risky approach, especially if you’re not fascinated enough by the lore to actually continuously look up information thus learning about the intended gameplay
The SW boat system would of been so much nicer to see in DST and I hate how I still think we’ll get a version like that someday. What I did love about this update chain is the creepy lore implications. The raw idea that the moon is alive and Waiting still creeps me out. I’m so excited to see what it wants or what Charlie plans to do with it.
I don't think they'll ever add shipwrecked boats, and they shouldn't. The RoT boating system is so much more fun and in-depth than shipwrecked's, especially since Waterlogged they're much better to control.
Kinda lost interest in DST halfway through this chain but NGL I'm still sad to see how this thing panned out. Like they've been hyping "Them" up for years and the big climactic thing is... a ball. Like how do you just not answer these questions. We still don't know what's up with the gate or the Nightmare Throne or all the event dimensions.
I think you underplayed the moon island content a bit. The Glass Axe, Sword, the weird alternative to tooth traps that you can't have enough of because they're unrenewable, the rock bushes to farm rocks and basically be berry bushes but with vegetables. Both in Enemies and Items and Mechanics a lot of it feels familiar but different in a fun way. I in theory like that the CC has a drop that you need to go out of your way to get multiple times for multiple lamps but I never fought him legit and going through all the Wagstaff stuff for that might make a lot more of a downside.
Everything included in (free expansion) Return of Them that wasnt the crab king I absolutely loved. In my opinion Klei totally outdid themselves, to a point that I am able to forget that big crabby boy fight.
If you are having trouble with being put to sleep there was a crockpot recipe added that gives sleep immunity it just takes all the different types of mushrooms. 1 red cap, 1 greed cap, 1 blue cap, and 1 lunar cap
I wanna add, i kinda "hate" or dislike if you put, that klei reject the idea of the "infecting" power of the moon. For those who are in the lore of ds, we know how much lovecraftian it is and seeig them reject it immediately after all those super creative ideas like the horror hounds or the horror pengulls just to play safe or to not ""offend""" someone (how that is i don't know) is something really annoying and nasty. The same with the strange change in the artstyle of all don't starve, like they're leaning to a whole safe happy, docile and everyone is friend philosophy instead of the interesting gritty, misterious and dark atmosphere. It was discussed in the forum.
@@FreddoFilms I didn't specify, the horror hounds and horror pengulls are still in the game because it's classic klei to leave a mechanic unfinished to stay there. What i meant that other animals that were planned to be infected like the birds will not be. Infact if you look closer, during the minigame of Wagstaff the "horror" birds looks like a normal bird. They don't have some organ outside, glass in their body or melted skin like the other. They will not continue this design and more likely add other infected lunar animal to not "offend" whatever people are talking (their words). Another example, look at the grotto. We have yes, infected plants who became mobile like normal animals, cool it follows the design, but the vampire molebat. They don't seem infected at all, they're a new animal, a more "cute" amd safe one. Tremors (Deepthworms) don't even became infected. So yes, they're in the game but it will never be explored, like many forgotten mechanics and ideas from klei which infuriates me.
While I do like parts of the ocean experience in DST (i actually like the fishing mechanics, its oddly theraputic after the first season cycle when you have everything all settled down) I do wish the whole boating experience was more like Shipwrecked. The closest thing to the SW experience in DST is a mod which unfortunately is no longer being maintained (and will crash if you try to make a crop farm) I just wish they added more stuff from Shipwrecked to make ocean exploring more fun. I also don't agree with your passing joking statements on characters like Wurt or Wormwood, as not every character needs a boatload of drawn out lore to be interesting. Plus their playstyles are pretty fun. Honestly picking the game back up after the RWYS update made the game's farming 10x more fun for me, it also makes playing as Wes with his abyssmal hunger depletion feel less painful so thanks Klei.
I would love to see pearl and her sweet heart find eachother again or mutations to the local fauna and flora of the overworld after you begin the lunar storms and an addition of the celestial champion speaking or something. thanks for this video~
RimWorld, c418, binding of Isaac? Weird choices, but love it, I may not agree with everything in this video, but I doubt you expect everyone to agree with everything, overall, great video!
You don't need to kill bee queen to transfer moon glass and gleams. You can also teleport using deserter or if you are playing solo telelocator. Though I still think the insane spoilage is dumb.
Good point, I wish I had tested those before the video. It still sounds like a massive hassle to deal with though (which was why I resorted to just switching to Winter's Feast)
I think this update chain was nice The oceans are empty tes,but that's great for pvp, having a mobile base I hate the crab king, but yeah no these updates were great But that raises a question, how deep down are the caves
The final boss should have been the moon it would have been so cool and made a lot of sense as well all of the events that are based on the moon could have been changed which would have been cool
the reason its so hard to spawn misery toad stool is so that new players dont try to kill him. klei news mainly through word of mouth so if you play with more people someone mustve watched a guide or something to learn to spawn him
those are relics from the Ruins. You can get their blueprint and craft them by entering a very specific combination of items into the chest next to the completed Pseudoscience Station. You should look it up on the wiki
I don't feel like Wagstaff is trying to usurp anything. I think he's trying to help break the power of the Nightmare Fuel creatures using the power of the Lunar Them. He's on the Lunar's side to an extent, but it seems like he's the people's hero at the moment. I also hate the CC, very lame, very long winded to get to a pretty uninteresting fight. Then the drops don't hint at anything further or even explain more lore. Just a nice hat really.
As someone who has like me thinks 100 hours on the game? Which isn't much compared to a lot of DST players I find, I have no clue how to even progress in the game. I have to watch videos, and even then I can't retain the information as well, I just wish the game had an easier way for newer players or people like me to actually figure out how to go forward into the game. Or maybe I'm just dumb idk, I've just never figured out how to actually progress. I shouldn't have to watch a bunch of videos on how to progress and do stuff in the game
I just wanna say that when I tried the light addition to the mast, it was hot garbage due to it absolutely RANDOMLY going out without any clear indicator, causing me to almost die or at the very least go into a severe panic. I highly doubt they fixed that, and therefore I highly suggest you do NOT use the boat's mast lantern. If by some chance the developers actually saw this issue and fixed it, please let me know.
i will never have the chance to kill dragonfly or in fact i've never been sailing in sea just because i'm so scared of what will be there as i don't want to die just to start everything from the scratch
I feel like don't starve is not supposed to be played blindly really in either ds or dst. In don't starve you have stuff like the meteors from the volcano that you some how need to know come from an extremely rare thing and also have to find the altar inside to stop, the aporkalypse straight up dooms you if you aren't ready for it, if you don't gather ice in winter you are screwed in summer for not knowing about wildfires (in normal don't starve caves still overheat and give wildfires), and over all stuff like figuring out crockpot dishes are almost impossible to find out on your own. If you wanted a game that lets you figure things out on your own don't starve and don't starve together are some of the worst games for that, but I really wouldn't what it to change from that. This game (besides beard 777 and edgy rick) has one of the best communities of any game because it forces this interaction. Jazzy games, demon rebuilt, and James bucket to name a few. So if you expected don't starve a game where the only advice give is to not starve to tell you how to do things then I think you are going to be disappointed.
Would you say DST is the most successful live service, in providing new content and changes frequently over YEARS? I would. I played the original don’t starve at launch and this game has come so far. A live service working, before they were even popular. And one of the only working ones out there
as for the ocean, maybe just adding random structures could be cool? i mean oceans are meant to be flat empty expanses but idk, maybe seeing a little island in the distance with a mini biome similar to mosaics would be cool and could help with resource replenishment. obviously at this point youre leaning more and more into shipwrecked, but wouldnt it be cool if shipwrecked was just in the oceans in dst? and wasnt exclusive to a singleplayer game?
celestial champion feels like the lunatic cultist is in terraria. if this is the celestial champion, i wanna fight whoever this dude is the champion OF. i wanna fight the terraria moon lord lmao, or at least whatever cosmic ruler of the lunar cycle is in dst. it just feels like were killing the champion in order to make the true final boss angry. and then the true final boss can has voicelines, it can have many phases, maybe have integrated cutscenes, give a conclusion to wagstaff, give a conclusion to the nightmare stuff, etc. you obviously wouldnt want a final boss to completely make the sanity mechanic go away, but it would be cool to actually see some sort of definitive ending to charlie and nightmares and shadows and everything else that is supposed to be the main antagonist of the story. but oh well
i mean i think the lunar events are cool, but idk. i keep thinking of terraria obviously, because they both have lunar events as the final bosses. but like, it would be cool if maybe instead of arbitrarily doing an escort mission and then a fetch quest for the literal final preparation, wagstaff went to a handful of moon landing locations and did a few different procedures. maybe at 1 place you have to defend him, but then at another you have to dig up rocks, and then at the other you have to catch things. it would still even use the same exact mechanics, but feel more tied together than "uhhh go grab random things while i sit here idk" like. obviously in order to make it more fun you would change the mechanics for the different areas. maybe just implement some core mechanics of the game redone into this new climactic setting. idk.
From start there where light=dark but somiting hapen that made the lights go to the moon and the dark took over the island and maybe willos teddy bare scares nightmare creatures because nightmare creatures are nightmares.
I love two of the dst boss first fuelweaver, second celestial champion And btw DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT MY DARK BOY 😂😂( i mean fuelWeaver ) But your video was funny 😍😂

Bee queen is difficult to beat for the first few times but there are lots of options for solo play such as Wolfgang, volt-goat jelly, Wendy for BQ specifically
They’re definitely hard bosses, but once you get the hang of them you won’t feel the same. Pan flutes for bq is the way I do it every time, i wouldn’t really call it cheesy but it is definitely really effective
Actually i really like the idea that Wagstaff in dst would look a bit out of place or diffrent than regular characters!
overall, i like the new updates. i just wish there was more story to them, and definitely an easier way for noobs to know what's going on. some wormwood dialogue would be excellent as well.
Never thought about that but yeah, so many opportunites to develop what little character wormwood has, a bit of a shame they didn't take them.
The Maxwell toolshed gag was amazing! Nice use of the Downpour track from Isaac as well.
Edit: Rimworld music as well, you have good taste.
Maybe my biggest surprise is that we still don't know who 'them' are. I don't feel like they returned at all.
Have you heard of alter the literal being we see return in eye of the storm
Its probably the shadow creatures as when saying "them" it often references to the shadow creatures. There is some evidence for it somewhere on the internet but i cant provide a source
Thank you for watching!

At least until you get bored and run out of things to do.
oh poor baby can't handle the content that klei adds for free. Like things stay the same forever change is not a choice its fact. get used to it
I think its funny how the best ROT update had nothing to do with ROT at all
You didn't talk about the centipedes in the archives basically one of the best normal enemies ever added
I guess you already need the bundling wrap for Pearl's cactus flower (not really necessary but still...)
and since CC counts as an endgame boss I don't see the harm to ask players to kill bee queen first
I hope that someone will make a mod for the celestial champion that makes him say "bayblade bayblade let it rip"
Wouldn’t it be interesting if the more you help Wagstaff, the taller he got? That would be interesting with the height symbolism
That bakugon phase takes me back.
phew, it's not just me who remembers it
After Taking Root, Wagstaff does have some new dialogue...
After handing the enlightened crown shard to him to trigger the lunarrifts, he says:
"You and I are going to change the world."
It's so wonderfully ominous.
Ill look around your channel for other similar videos and really, thank you for this
21:35 those weird flying fairies or the boy equivalent, the weird flying ball with helicopter things
oh my god you've brought me back. I remember those fairy things, the weirdest shit
Omg I love that you used binding of Isaac ost! So fitting!
That was a nice touch of downpour when he was in the grotto :)
Where have ya been all my life lad? Good music, good editing and a wonderful personality. Amazing job, hope to see your grow more soon.
Damn, thanks so much for the kind words. Much appreciated
Great video man. Perfect breakdown of the last content arc.
@@FreddoFilms sw boats are walking, but in the sea
"Salt can only be used to make one thing."
Salt Crystals: Am I a joke to you? (Made from grinder from Warly)
You really undermining them and them isn't a ball it's part of them hes a champion on the king or leader.
Man, looking at videos about giving A retrospective on game updates that I've been around for makes me feel so old
It's definitely weird to think how much time has passed since Turn of Tides, like that was before the pandemic and shit. Feels like eons ago now.
I in theory like that the CC has a drop that you need to go out of your way to get multiple times for multiple lamps but I never fought him legit and going through all the Wagstaff stuff for that might make a lot more of a downside.
the shade in the introduction HAHAHAHAHHA
Edit: just a heads-up, no card on the top right at 14:36
Everything included in (free expansion) Return of Them that wasnt the crab king I absolutely loved. In my opinion Klei totally outdid themselves, to a point that I am able to forget that big crabby boy fight.
11:40 we need a texturepack thing that turns all the tools into Maxwell, and his chin the actual tool part
If you are having trouble with being put to sleep there was a crockpot recipe added that gives sleep immunity it just takes all the different types of mushrooms. 1 red cap, 1 greed cap, 1 blue cap, and 1 lunar cap
Rimworld ost feels incredibly chill for a Don't Starve review.
I want a glass rock lobster boss
They did? those creatures are still in the game.
Yeah, they are in the game still. I checked.
@@cactusgamingyt9960 Sorry i didn't specify it, check my comment above
@@supermilordo5153 game doesnt needs to be edgy and be like "yeah scary mobs" just saying
So what's the music that plays at 0:48 I tried looking for it in the list of music, but none of them fit.
Thanks mate! Very kind of you ☺️
I think this update chain was nice
The oceans are empty tes,but that's great for pvp, having a mobile base
I hate the crab king, but yeah no these updates were great
But that raises a question, how deep down are the caves
18:33 OMG IS THAT HAZBIN HOTEL REFERENCE? This looks like Charlies clothes
Thanks for this video! I LOVE IT
Phase 3 is probably like those flying drones that are based on characters that always yeeted themselves into a fire.
Love how we are now getting mutated bosses!
Loved every single animation that came out
I thought I was watching a Rimworld play through in the background or something towards the end LOL
19:21 What about Telelocator Focus?
not really necessary anymore, they've since updated the game (moongleams last 60 days and infused glass lasts 12 mins, instead of 60 seconds)
@@FreddoFilms lovely
The final boss should have been the moon it would have been so cool and made a lot of sense as well all of the events that are based on the moon could have been changed which would have been cool
But, how would that work…?
@@Chay_freeroamerYou’re met with a terrible fate, havent you?
you also kind of forgotten that Maxwell also looks like a banana head
the reason its so hard to spawn misery toad stool is so that new players dont try to kill him. klei news mainly through word of mouth so if you play with more people someone mustve watched a guide or something to learn to spawn him
moonstorms are cool but kinda wish they were more obscuring, have you seen the moon storm concepts?
8:35 what is that table and chair he has on the boat? What are those called and how do you get them?
those are relics from the Ruins.
I think it'd be cool to play as Charlie as well as Maxwell, story wise it sounds cool
@17:00 "height simbolyses power" No it does not the height of non-character Maxwell is a part of his story.

while i was looking for the lunar islands i found the waterlogged forest thing on accident
3:50 did you REALLY but warframe im this segment?
Ik this is unrelated, but I love the NITW ost in here, thank you
i will never have the chance to kill dragonfly or in fact i've never been sailing in sea just because i'm so scared of what will be there as i don't want to die just to start everything from the scratch
OvO Bakugan reference?? I love those things~
I was playing Rimworld while watching this and was so confused at the sudden inclusion of Rimworld music
5:00 Is that an actual link?
When I hear Return of "Them" I assumed it had something to do with shadow creatures or Maxwell assistant.
So WHERE ARE THEY? Xd
Wagstaff isn’t on the throne though…
How would a new player figure out how to fight misery toadstool?
WHY WOULD A NEW PLAYER WANT TO FIGHT MISERY TOADSTOOL?
Freddo forgot lightsabers smh my head XD (insert more lol)
celestial champion feels like the lunatic cultist is in terraria. if this is the celestial champion, i wanna fight whoever this dude is the champion OF. i wanna fight the terraria moon lord lmao, or at least whatever cosmic ruler of the lunar cycle is in dst. it just feels like were killing the champion in order to make the true final boss angry. and then the true final boss can has voicelines, it can have many phases, maybe have integrated cutscenes, give a conclusion to wagstaff, give a conclusion to the nightmare stuff, etc. you obviously wouldnt want a final boss to completely make the sanity mechanic go away, but it would be cool to actually see some sort of definitive ending to charlie and nightmares and shadows and everything else that is supposed to be the main antagonist of the story. but oh well
i mean i think the lunar events are cool, but idk. i keep thinking of terraria obviously, because they both have lunar events as the final bosses. but like, it would be cool if maybe instead of arbitrarily doing an escort mission and then a fetch quest for the literal final preparation, wagstaff went to a handful of moon landing locations and did a few different procedures. maybe at 1 place you have to defend him, but then at another you have to dig up rocks, and then at the other you have to catch things. it would still even use the same exact mechanics, but feel more tied together than "uhhh go grab random things while i sit here idk" like. obviously in order to make it more fun you would change the mechanics for the different areas. maybe just implement some core mechanics of the game redone into this new climactic setting. idk.
21:57 a diancie Pokémon card ?
11:02 Hamlet would like to know your location.
Wow you're actually alive
Agree CC doesn’t feel like an end boss
13:22 you should play Understand
I didn’t do 90% of the updates because they are just too hard
if only don't starve would have a npc to give hints on what to do
ummmmm secret arg??? w-w-what's the link 4
Idk why but I like return of them
But I understand why people wouldn't, since there isn't much but hey, it's honest content
confuding moongleams with infused moonglass? :P Moongleams last a whole year
From start there where light=dark but somiting hapen that made the lights go to the moon and the dark took over the island and maybe willos teddy bare scares nightmare creatures because nightmare creatures are nightmares.
was waterlogged not part of it?
21:31 terraformer is my favourite rimworld track
