I practiced law for 28 years and before that was a news reporter covering the court system in Texas and never once in that time did I ever see any lawyer perform as incompetently as this woman. Not only should she be held in contempt and sanctioned by the court, she needs to be sanctioned by the state’s bar association. Her client also has a good case against her for malpractice. She’s an embarrassment to the profession.

    • @thedave1771

Actually this isn’t that far off from COVID.
I sounded a bit odd and struggled to think/process but I barely coughed or anything on my first pass (early second wave).
Later COVID tends to be more of a cold.
It doesn’t excuse her behaviour even if so, she should have recognized she wasn’t capable of proceeding.
I don’t drink so I can’t directly compare the experience, but I think the thought processing may be similar.

@@jaykay1053 It 100% is a massive boon to our criminal justice system. Time is constantly being wasted to a significant degree having boomers trying to figure out the internet and the zoom calls. Defendants are constantly using "technical issues" as an excuse to push back court dates and get away with not showing up entirely. Connection issues make it hard for people like myself who was a court reporter to take everything down accurately. And beyond that, there is behavioral stuff that goes on while a defendant is standing in person in front of a judge and her bailiff. I've NEVER seen so much blatant disrespect towards the judge as I did in the zoom calls. Obviously criminals have always talked bad in court or threatened judges, but not to the degree that these spineless coward criminals do on the call.
As a result of these things, among many other internal issues during covid, i quit my job at the court. I could not handle the sheer dumbassery that is reporting on zoom calls and all the covid restrictions in the court.
