    I have a 2022 Camry Ascent Sport - I love the new hammer head front end, the better technology, and the squarer dash, the better handling, the better suspension , the interior extra's - BUT - the new Ascent Sport does not come with the larger instrument panel like the SL has, as the previous model A Sport had, (that's a big no no for me). Also the back end does not look as good as the old Ascent Sport which has a colour matched lower panel under the bumper bar and better fuller rear tail lights - makes the A Sport and SL look cheap at the rear. The cost of the A Sport now being around $47,000 drive away demands more! Also my biggest grip with the old and now new Camry is that they sit too low - which is always an irritation when going up driveways with a rise or down with a sudden dip (always trying to avoid a scrap underneath especially the front end) - they need to come up at least another 2cms) not to mention getting in and out of the seats through the doorway almost gives you a hernia sitting so low!! Was going to upgrade but the above negatives and the price have baulked me. Yes! And the now hidden dual tailpipes which I like on my old one!

    Looking at this from a 2024 Camry Ascent Sport owners perspective. The lower grill in the front bumper looks clean but very ordinary. The wrap around indicator (hammer head design?) looks flaky. Fuel economy rated at 4.0l/100km is probably achievable but it would be through extremely conservative driving.
    Wind noise around the drivers door is a huge disappointment.
    Other than that, the Camry hybrid is a solid, reliable car which is reasonable value for money.

    Thanks for a detailed and professionally delivered review Kez. I like the external look, dash and centre console design. Dropping the rear roof line is a real mistake and not suited to the Aussie market. Piano black trims just suck, I could see the dust and print markets in your video. Bad news for fleet. The back seat looks pov and rather 1998-ish. Rear boot lip should ideally be lower. Did you happen to notice if the boot hinges encrouch on cargo space and the old torsion bars still run under the parcel shelf? Often an issue in my VX50 series Camry.
    Finally, Mazda and Toyota (among others) have made the front bumper flush with the metal nose between the headlights. Means if someone backs into you or you nudge up to a wall in a carpark, the panel is dinted rather than a scrap on the bumper. This is very poor design for what is known to be a fleet focused vehicle. I agree with @breaker1685 , the Camry is too low. If I had to run one again for work, I would be looking at suspension lift kit.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Regarding the boot hinges, the C-shaped hinge follows a little more closely to the sides of the boot then they did the XV50. Instead of a torsion beam assist spring, there's a gas spring in the right boot arm. This occupies its own little pocket of space.

    Have they improved the comfort of the terrible previous seats? They certainly look better. The previous model with its push the neck forward head restraints were so bad!!!

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The seats have been revised. There's a bit more support, but they're not drastically different to before. Can't say I noticed the head restraints pushing my head forward (and I hate cars that do that) so I reckon you might be alright with the Camry. Try one on for size.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The red colour seen here is Jasper Red (paint code 3U9), which is different to Emotional Red, also called Feverish Red in some markets (paint code 3U5). Both are tri-coat finishes leading to their similar finish.

    Still don't like the front facia area although the front is better looking than the previous horrible grill area. Banging your head as you try to enter the back seat takes me back to the (AU?) falcon where lumps and bumps accompanied your entrance. Toyota pricing is too high for what you get so there are better vehicles available.

      It feels a bit odd that the top-selling brand in Australia can't make a business case for a single wagon. Although there's no Camry wagon globally, the Corolla Touring Wagon would surely generate enough interest.

    I think the design language for the new camry was a miss since it’s intro around 2017. The refresh helps but when you have Hyundai, Kia and now honda refreshing and remodeling at breakneck speeds toyota needed something totally new to win the segment. It’s just fine!

    Hmmmm 😅

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends a little. The price from the previous generation cheapest model (which wasn't a hybrid) to this one represents a $4900 increase, but if you compare the old hybrid Ascent to the new one, the price step is around $2000 more. Still an increase, of course, but the improved safety suite and better equipment inclusions help Toyota justify the increase.

    Awesome review Kez 🙌 Are they built in Japan for the Aussie market? Also would you agree the SL version is getting close to the Lexus 300. I gotta say this new version Camry looks really nice . Keep up your excellent work mate!

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Australian-delivered Camrys are sourced from Japan. While the SL takes a step towards the ES300, there's still plenty differentiate them. There's more equipment and more upmarket interior in the Lexus, but of course there's also a big step up in price.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Being a hybrid, the Camry's battery is much smaller than a full-EV. The battery packs in them are fairly robust, and Toyota offers a 10 year warranty on the battery itself but even if you did need to replace one the cost is around $3500 for a new genuine battery, or $1500 for a remanufactured unit.
