    As someone who is looking at starting fulltime cruising in the next 3-5 years this is, hands down, one of the most helpful videos I've seen. Thank you for making a thoughtful video about what you did not choose.
    And, FWIW, I just subscribed and will be looking at your earlier videos. I wish all of y'all well and look forward to more great videos.

    Very interesting, informative content. I didn't realise just how much there was to consider when purchasing a sailing vessel . Thank you both for sharing your valuable knowledge, and insight. Very helpful! On a different note. Glad there wasn't any cats in the video! lol

      So glad you enjoyed it! We spent hours considering all our options and trying to determine what we needed and didn't need before receiving our boat. In the end there are several must haves and a lot of maybes. The maybes are the details that we stressed over😀.

    Thanks for the heads up! Having a Cane Corso I'm worried about the heat absorption of flexiteak. I'm glad you hear you are using pads/rugs. Love your episodes!!

      Thanks for watching! We've found that they manage well with the white non-skid surface and we like that it doesn't heat up. We used to use rubber mats (cut to size) on the transoms but found it wasn't necessary. Now we just put mats and dog beds under the tables. And, we let them sleep on the berths too🙂.

    The underwater lights was one of the best upgrades that we did to our cat. But we had Kent at Just Catamarans install them.

      We went ahead and had the underwater lights installed a few months ago. They're nice but happily did without for several years😀.

    I would have skipped the underwater lights until I went to the BVI this summer. Was really cool watching the aquarium at night.

    Great, very useful, and therefore a popular video.
    I liked that you actually showed the watermaker because I have no idea how big these things are. I would be very interested in how your solar panel looks like or the spinnaker.

    Thankyou for the video, it was very helpful in seeing why you have selected the opinions and the ones that you did not select in your vessel. One thing with the underwater lights you may consider is for safety if you have issues with the sail drive /propellers underway and for the retrieval of the stern anchors /bow anchor if fitted at night. This will depend on the location of the anchors with some cats this is an issue of can if not careful can hit the hull if chain is not kept straight to the spreader
    regards

      @LabMariner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion we'll definitely look into it before making our final decision about underwater lights.

  • @travelingtimothy
    @travelingtimothy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Underwater lights are a good investment. More solar panels and charge controllers to solve shading issues, skip the heavy generator. The decking looks COOL, but sounds like a bad choice, I don't think you ever go wrong by stiffening the boat at factory hence I would have gone for the sail too. I guess what counts is you made decisions for you that worked, thanks for the analysis that went into the decisions. Maybe I will meet your out there one day!

    So we have a BIG unanswered question here.... What happened when you didn't change the water-maker filters for over a month?
    Great video, really appreciate the insight on these options from experienced owners, very helpfull indeed. Thanks.

    • @LabMariner
      @LabMariner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We thought that in the Bahamas the water was clean enough that we could wait a little longer - we were wrong🙂. We were seeing a decrease in the water output at first. Then, the machine would go to flush mode when we input a run cycle. After we changed the filters, no problems.

      @@LabMariner Thanks. Was watching a video on a Spectra install and the guy said the filers can be used 2 or 3 times if you was them out. This was on the Barefoot Doctors channel. But you probably already knew this :)

    Those are some beautiful Labs. And I think regardless of the power draw, i think there are some systems that are LED type lights that are low power draw and are bright and you can change the color scheme any time you want via an app on a phone or even through the boat management system screen.

    First time viewer and found it fascinating. Are sail drives standard.

    • @LabMariner
      @LabMariner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sail drives are usually standard for catamarans. Sail drives can be placed further aft in the boat than standard-shaft drives and for this reason produce less noise, heat, vibration, and take up less room due to the compact size of the engine.

    Underwater lights make other people around you at anchorage and on land hate you and wish your boat leave. When boats show up in anchorage using underwater lights at night, I buzz their boat with my drone until they leave. Works every time. Don't be that guy with the underwater lights or just put them off your stern.
