Of course you can do it with type one but requires you to slowly ease into it and slowly lower carbs. You also have to monitor your ketone levels and will require medical super vision. Try finding a doctor that’ll be willing to work with you on it if yours won’t.
The ketogenic diet is very good for T1Ds as well, you will need to implement it carefully with your doctors help so you can slowly and safely lower your insulin dosage as you decrease your carb intake.
@@KenDBerryMD Why would you need to slowly ease in to it? Lol. And you definitely don't need help from your doctor. Just measure your glucose levels and simply drink a sugary drink if you take too much insulin when you start. I'm a type one diabetic and tried keto and fasting. There's no need to ease into it as long as you've got some easily accessible carbs early on in case you fuck up.
I’m so glad I started Keto. I was a type 2 diabetic. However, after doing Keto for a few months, my doctor took me off of Metformin. She also took me off of my cholesterol medication and reduced my blood pressure medication to 5 mg a day. I was about 330 lbs when I started Keto and I’m 273 now. I went from a 48 inch waist to a 40 inch waist. Keto for life!!!💪🏻
Very impressive results Majorb1147, and in such a short period of time. I'm especially impressed with your cholesterol drop to the point where you're off statins. Well done.
majorB1147 Baxt Can you expand on what numbers you had (BP, Blood Sugar)... What dosages of your MEDS you had to take prior/ after to Keto ? BTW: Got any tips for someone new to Keto ? TIA !
WeAreNotAlone69 . The only thing that has been an issue has been the blood pressure. I was reduced to 5mg a day . I was taking 10 mg prior to that. I have been having some issues with my BP, so I am going back to my doctor about it. I will be honest I don’t remember what my dosage was on Metformin, but my A1C was I think around 4.8 or 5 and so she took me off of it. I’ve been off of it for over a year. I’ll be honest with you my blood sugar has been 85 to 100. Of course it’s a little higher right now because I had a cheat meal (Mexican Food), it was about 104.
majorB1147 Baxt I'll take those numbers. . been lax taking BP and Metformin meds. Due to having a DR that has the kick the can down the road mentality and insurance company changed over to crappy lancets, meter that will not sync up to cellphone. (I like seeing the numbers go down, and being able to track what makes numbers go UP ) .About a year ago from memory BP 140/110., 134 on sugar. .. Right now at 160/110, sugar 260 to 300., (Yikes ) Was wondering.what everyone is EATING. . how to get STARTED on KETO as my numbers are high.
I was diagnosed with T2 by my er at the time in November '16; they only pulled enough blood for an immediate sugar reading(335), so soon after I was diagnosed I got a full panel, including a1c. My a1c was between 6.0-7.5 at the very beginning of my diagnosis. In August '17, I discovered keto, in March '18, I got tested at 6.5. Then I moved and by the time care was reestablished in December '18, my 9 intervening months of keto and carnivore dropped my a1c to 5.9. My doctor saw me in February '19 and saw my numbers from December and said keep doing what you're doing, your a1c is good, we'll see you in August '19. I'm predicting 5.5 or less
I'm a pharmacist for a big retail chain. Today at work, I kid you not, a prescription came in for a man (30-40 yrs old) and it was Novolog and he's using 100 units three times a day before meals. I called the dr and inquired if that was correct. It was! And I was basically told it's none of my business and I just need to do my job and not question the doctor. Sad. Very sad.
@@ramonaearnest4709 Actually, 'Doctor' originally meant 'Teacher'. In Italy, to an extent, it still does. So, in the very most traditional sense, he IS our Doctor.
Keto "cured" my prediabetes. My last fasting bg was 84 and my a1c was 5.2. There is a strong history of diabetes in my family and had I not discovered keto several years ago I would be a full blown diabetic now.
As Dr Berry said in this talk, don't depend on your family doctor to raise the red flag about your blood sugar being in the prediabetic range. I was probably prediabetic for 20-30 years and my family doctor never once suggested that my typical 100 plus Blood Glucose readings were a cause for concern or diet related. Only thru my own research did I discover what carbs were doing to my health. My best advice would be to catch it early. Don't wait till you're in your 60s and have already caused irreversible damage.
I'm sure you will Morgan. It has been life changing for me. Not only by reversing the drift toward diabetes but also in the way I feel and the latter has really helped me stick with it. I used to have energy slumps throughout the day, especially after lunch and have to eat snacks in between my regular meals. I could barely go 2 hours without getting hungry. Now my energy levels remain constant thru the day and I have no problem not eating between meals. I will say it was a process and not an overnight thing. I had many false starts and setbacks and even today I fall off the wagon from time to time especially when on vacation. And it took awhile to break the cravings for my favorite foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, pizza, rice, and sweets that were a major part of my life for over 50 years. I never thought it was possible but I have found I can live fine without them. There are so many delicious keto friendly recipes in books and online. Best of luck to you.
It's too late for my eyes to an extent, but I'm sooo grateful to you for explaining keto and answering all the questions that you have, because with the knowledge you've given me and the research I've done, I no longer will be at risk of the kidney heart circulation and other complications because I've let go of the ADA's coattails
@@sarahaugustine4185 Thanks Sarah, i've since started carnivore too and my sugars have constantly been under 140 since 10/4, even when I first wake up (in spite of the stupid dawn phenomena)
@@prepperjonpnw6482 the dawn phenomena is used to describe the abnormal early morning rise in sugar, that stabilizes as the day goes on, and medication is taken
Y’all at 265 I believe I’m pre diabetic, finger tingles while sleeping and all. I have been on Keto only 3days and already feel a profound difference in my body, less belly bloat, It has actually distended below breast level already. Zero heartburn, less gas, and sleeping better, it’s really amazing! Thank God I found Keto!
It's unfortunate that the people asking questions were not miked. May I suggest in the future that Dr. Berry repeats the person's question (for the benefit of the TH-cam viewers).
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! For making this lecture available for those of us that did not have access to the opportunity to see you live. Eye opening, life changing, mind blowing information!
I would like to suggest handing a mic to the people asking the questions, because it is interesting for us to hear the question instead of trying to figure it out by your answer, also it causes us to drift off and possibly lose interest ( or maybe that is just my ADD lol) just an idea to consider, I appreciate your work and the information so much. Thank you
A Doctor that is sensitive to the whole patient, including the stress of over medicated and paying $500.00 a month bill to feel horrible. Love you Dr. Berry. thank you
I got no help when I found Keto, my aic was 12 and I was looking to go vegan and up popped keto and I never looked back. In 2 months it went from 12 to 7 not good still but better than what it was. I wish I lived closer to you Dr. Berry. : ) I think your awesome!
@Dana Scott you've basically cured yourself and you will see your true result at your next a1c checkup. A1c measures your results over the last 3 months. Since you had your test after just 2 months your "average" was one month of uncontrolled blood sugars averaged with 2 months of non diabetic range blood sugars and you still managed to drop by 5 points! Great work! I can't wait for you to see that 5.X score at your next appointment!
@@jameskantor0459 Right now it is at 6.5 the last time I checked I don't take my pills anymore. My goes up and down, I kind of got off keto and now I am back on. Good Luck!
It's a good thing you didn't do vegan. In the process of making foods taste like meat, they essentially add sugars and chemicals, etc. It's all fake food and high in carbs. Whole foods is the way to go, keto wise, that is.
I learned of KETO via a utube search of low carbs, it referred me to you and dr. berg. I have been off insulin since APR 9. if had known 8 years ago may not have needed cataract replacement
Love that you gave this advice on this. My brother died 3 years ago, at 59....before that lost a leg, eye sight, wouldn't watch his diet, lived on junk food, pop and beer ect. Shots daily. Maybe he'd still be here if he had followed this. Appreciate also your info on Keto after Gastric bypass surgery. That's me. Thank you! Here's to gobs of Grass Fed Butter👍🏻😊
I cant imagine anyone with diabetes not already finding keto. I would be searching day and night if I thought I would have to go on insulin. I know people trust their docs advice but wow, thats scary. Great talk doc! xoxoMarjorie
So very sad. I am always in shock when I see a tv commercial that cites all the possible side effects and yet sell billions of drugs to people?!? Amazing.
Had a lady tell me in the type 2 diabetes Fitbit group yesterday that she's not really feeling up to doing all the research right now (she finished that sentence with " LOL")she's going to wing it and do her (and this is how she worded it)" Weight Watchers / keto-ish / low carb plan." She said she's going to eat foods and then test yourself before and after and see which ones Spike her insulin. She showed a picture of her lunch, it was skinny pop the huge bag, some type of a dip with something that look like flatbread, some fruits and some non keto veggies. Oh! And some Silk Almond vanilla flavored milk... Lol She said she was told to eat 15 grams per meal of carbs for each meal of the day and she's snacks too. I told her it's all lies , the doctors, the Ada, I've been there and I've done what they've said and they've caused my liver damage because I listen to how they wanted me to eat. Whole grains fruits vegetables everything. I told her I promise if she would go keto sheet see a difference fast. Oh well. she's headed down the wrong road but she doesn't believe me she said she doesn't feel like it she said she's going to play this out and see if it works. I feel sorry for people like that. I'm willing to do anything to change the condition of my liver. I've already gotten off all of my meds I'm down about 90 pounds looking back I was pretty sick. I'm also insulin resistant. Can't change everyone but I tried :/
I'm 71 and just diagnosed type 2, never had symptoms I could recognise, starting keto, as low carb as I can do. I was diagnosed, prescribed med and basically told good luck with it. I'm so thenkful I found this channel!!!!!
This is one of the best videos/talks on prediabetes/ type 2 diabetes and how to reverse this horrible disease, that I have ever heard. Thank you Dr. Berry.
Dr Berry, i have always had skin tags, and a few other things you mentioned (outward signs) but didn't realize until my husband found pre diabetic and found your videos. Ty so much!!
Im REALLY grateful to have found Dr Berry a year ago on Utube. Im over 70 and weighed 2004#. Im now 155.4 # off Cholesterol meds, Blood pressure and Meds for Depression!! Im energetic and feel like I did in my 50's!! My sons are now on Keto and they already are FEELING results!! 😍
Dr. Berry...I have been on keto for 11 months, lost 70 pounds. Lowered my A1C to 4.7. Taken off metformin by my last physician. My new doctor just told me this month that I am still a diabetic that once a diabetic always a diabetic. He said I wasn't cured but in remission . That I'm still at risk. However he said I couldn't sustain keto way of eating forever. Furthermore he suggested not to deprive myself of treats if it was a special day. WHAT??? Ok...I just looked at him. I don't listen to anyone that tells me to eat carbs. Nope. My question is ....I'm not cured? I am heartbroken over here because I have been so proud of my accomplishments lowering my A1C.
He is demotivating you!!!!....Don't fall into this trap....you have to understand your own acomplishments...do not look for his validation!...Tremendous job!!!
you did a great job taking control of your health, anna, dont let anyone tell you otherwise! im honestly not sure how it works, whether a diabetic patient who does keto and gets off medication will be able to have carbs again like in a SAD diet but pretty sure no one would like to look back on eating "slow poison". your doctor is partially right, dont deprive yourself of treats once in awhile.. just make sure they are keto friendly! there are so many amazing recipes out there! keep up the good work and dont let anyone dismiss your hard work! (: ♡
Didn't liked how this new doctor treated you, instead of giving you congrats for your accomplishments,he brings you down. As for "treats", Iam not against, I myself have one dessert (a piece of red velvet cake or cheesecake) once in a month. I don't think one treat every 30days will damage all the keto work we've done!
I took myself off metformin my dr was UPSET said I was causing more problems for myself my daily readings went from 135-150 in the morning to 89-130 late day 175 -300 now I am at 78-125. Love your common medical sense. My last A1C was 6.4 my highest is was 7.5
God bless you Dr. Berry for your willingness to be on the frontlines fighting for us with this horrible injustice that exists with the diabetes epidemic.
Can Diabetics Eat Keto? WELL DUH..! In February of this year my A1C was 10.5. In July it was 7. I'm betting on a 5 or less when I have it tested again in three weeks. BTW I no longer have to use the two types of insulin that I had too use before starting keto. My wife's A1C dropped from 8 to 5.8 in the same amount of time. She was also able to get rid of her two types of insulin that she has been on for over 20 years. YES KETO ROCKS..!
I’m learning so much and I realize that I needed to go all in for the keto diet! Everything I am learning is making me go OMG! I have been told by my doctor years ago that I am pre-diabetic! I thought oh I’m okay, I’m not diabetic! My motivation is like, get off my blood pressure, cholesterol meds! So I need to take this way more serious. So I am not going this alone.
I went on keto 11 months ago to lose weight and bring my blood pressure down to normal. That worked but so many more good things happened. One of them was my T2D became well managed without meds. I was able to get off the glipizide completely. And my A1C went from 6.7 to 4.9.
I have done Lchf or Keto what ever you want to call it for more than 18 months now. Jason Fung and Sarah Hallberg were the first I listend to, it works after 22 years type 2, 10 years with insulin I am totally free of insulin blood pressure pills have a normal cholesterol no pills . I feel great have allot of energy. Keto is not a diet but a lifestyle, it can be done by all type 2 diabetics. The only medicine a type 2 needs is Lchf/ keto lifestyle, they do not need insulin.
Thanks Dr Berry, liked and shared. Please consider handing a mic to those asking questions or repeat thier question. Looking forward to your next post. Much Love ❤
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (A1C was 9.6) back in Aug. 2017 my doctor wanted me to get on Metformin ASAP. I fired him and tried Keto and when I went to my doctor I have now and had my A1C tested again it went down from 9.6 to 5.2. Then I got really stupid and stopped doing Keto and I'm back where I started. I need to get back on the normal diet again.
Thank you for this video. The question answer really was fantastic. Thank you for sorta repeating the questions which were sometime difficult to understand. Your goal of helping eradicate type 2 diabetes thru proper eating ...will be frustrating, because some people just want to eat the wonderful tasting bad stuff. If sugar refined carbs are legal people will eat them.
I have Type 2 Diabetes. I’ve been doing Keto since May. I have been able to get my A1C down to 5.5 and my fasting blood sugar down to 99. I am fortunate enough to have my GI specialist and my primary physician be supportive of me doing Keto. It’s not just a diet. It’s a lifestyle change.
Four years later, do you still recommend this Keto diet for Type 2 Diabetes. I just found out this past Friday..December 16, 2022 that I have type 2 Diabetes. My AIC is 8.7. My Dr. Put me on Metformin XR 500 MG twice a day. But I am choosing to take only 1 dose (500 mg). I'm 100% on board for going carb free. I'm scared and determined to beat this horrible disease. Thank you SO MUCH for all of your informative videos. I found out Friday 12.16.22 and I'm making extreme changes now. I'm having trouble finding out which vegetables to eat. So now I'm headed to Keto recipes. Dr. Berry, thank you for your true calling to help so many people. God Bless you !
I've followed low carb for years. The doctor said I shouldn't eat that way. (Too much meat) Seemed disappointed that I didn't have diabetes. I will be butting heads, subtly, as I will be following carnivore to lose more weight and improve my health. (I call it "whole foods" and low sugar) I've been fighting to get off my bp meds. I think I'm still eating "something" that is inflaming me. This video reassures me that I am on the right track... :) -although I have gotten off my thyroid med....(hypo) (I have the "non-compliant" label too..I won't take statins)
My age is 64. I get blood tests about every 4 months. This last set of tests were the first time I was on a Keto diet for the full 4 months. There was some improvement during the previous tests where I was on Keto for only a month, but I will give you the numbers from the tests before Keto to now. A1C went from 8.5 to 5.9. HDL went from 35 to 43. Triglycerides went from 174 to 100. I also lost 20 lbs. During the last period I also quit most of my medications, (metformin, glyburide, metoprolol, & lisinopril), My kidneys went from stage 3 failure, (egfr of 55), to Stage 2, (egfr of 72). Because every test got much better than the last, the next blood test will be in 6 months. Looking forward to those results.
Diabetic specialist told me that i shouldn't do a keto diet cause it'll lower my glucose. Said to just up my insulin units (n and r) so that THAT can help lower it. It made no sense to me!!! So i cancelled my follow up appointment with him. My a1c was 14. I'm typed 2. I'm currently doing keto right now and week 1 i lost 8lbs and i feel so much better. I can't wait to see my health after 3 months and retest my a1c.
Great info...Thanks for your passion on helping others. It shows crystal clear. I started Keto/Intermittent fasting. Type 2 on metformin, farxiga, trulicity, and tresiba. Sugars have already fallen dramatically to 70-80’s premeal and 80-100 post. Have dropped a few times into 60’s. My largest concern is the farxiga and dangers of ketoacidosis as I am trying to induce Ketosis. The farxiga states ketoacidosis as a dangerous side effect.. thoughts?
If I'm not mistaken Autophagy really kicks in not with so much intermittent fasting but prolonged fasting and they're finding coffee (regular in decaffeinated make no difference) speeds up the process of Autophagy.
Would love to hear the questions. Last month at my check up my Dr told me that I had the lowest A1C he had ever seen and to keep on doing what I was doing.
Newly diagnosed and he told me to keep doing what I'm doing really that's what got me in the mess I'm in. Type 2 started keto soon as he told me two days ago only on metformin
I really enjoy this series you're doing, this conference. I have to tell you I went to the doctor to get an A1C test because I self-diagnosed is a diabetic, I knew I was diabetic just from the problems I was suffering. I walked in , I fasted all day, I was hangry as hell and the nurse did a finger prick which was about 300 and instead of doing an A1c the doctor spent all of a minute and a half in my room handed the nurse six boxes of Actos for me to take and said take those for 2 weeks then we'll do an A1c. I never did get my A1C done. As I was leaving I was complaining that I didn't want to take the damn drugs I just wanted the blood test and a little twit at the front desk who was taking my money said you don't take the drugs that's fine you just die. I went home and checked out Actos on the computer and seen a large black box warning and threw them in the trash.
KenDBerryMD -- Do you know of a keto cruise, retreat, or conference that is about cooking keto? How to cook it, how to eat out, etc. With whole foods -- no gimmick or crap foods. I would love to go to something like that.
@sue morris check out Maria Emerich on TH-cam and Facebook. She has many recipes and menu ideas. Extremely well known in keto community. Berg pushes too many products with his name on them and keto is about whole food nutrition that is accessible to every person who can physically put food in their mouths. Keep following Dr Berry; he's got a patron and supporters Facebook group where we all share food recipes and newbie advice as well as help/encouragement for those of us who've been doing this awhile
My father suffered with diabetes for 30+ years. He passed away in his sleep at 81 years old. We suspect he overdosed on his insulin accidentally. I wish he could have heard your advice 20 years ago. He suffered a lot with sugar addiction and living heavily medicated. I’m a carnivore and hoping to live a long very healthy life.
500.00 I wish, Tresiba is 1500.00 for a 90 day supply. Trulicity is 1900.00 for a 90 day supply and I'm on both. Now add Metformin 500mg twice a day. I want to get off these meds and I'm starting Keto today. Had my AC1 checked and it is 8.9
Started the keto about a year ago I felt good stay down at for about 9 or 10 days felt wonderful got frustrated by counting the macros and went off of it now I'm sicker than ever and I'm going back on it
I wish the USA had Keto fastfood places, like maybe name it "Keto King," and it would have burgers with Lewis Bakery Healthy Life Keto buns, pizza with chicken crust or low carb tortilla crust (cauliflower crust is too high carb), tacos and nachos with low carb tortillas, etc. I love Mission Carb Balance Tortillas and Mr Tortilla.
I hope I can get my wife to watch this and finally let me DO the Keto diet! My daily bg has been high but I have not been taking any meds my doctor wants me to come in he has prescribed that test my bg once a day. I want to and know I need to do the KETO.
Dr. Berry, we have all heard about the glycemic index and glycemic load, but how about a video on the insulin index? It is my understanding that lean protein is high on the insulin index, but protein with fat has about half the insulin response. It seems that fat is to protein as fiber is to carbs.
I just last week had an eye exam: I have no more diabetic retinopathy, and I was diagnosed back in the summer of 2017. In my eye exam in '18, I still had diabetic retinopathy, though my other numbers had all improved. I also have a congenital anemia called CDA, and my on-carnivore-diet readings for my platelets, red blood cell counts, hemoglobins and hematocrits have all started RISING, which is a good thing. My levels on the SAD diet were always lower. For example my crit on SAD would be about 29.9-32.0. The very first on-carnivore-diet CBC reading was 34+, which was my first normal crit level in my whole entire life. So much for only having one treatment option, other than monthly transfusions: "take vitamin B12 and folic acid or folate every day for the rest of your life."
This is an excellent talk except for one thing. You should have a cordless mic that can be passed around to the audience members so that we can hear their questions. This is NOT a complicated or expensive problem to solve. I could hear the questions spoken, but it was unnecessarily difficult to do so.
My husband thanks he can eat whatever he wants; including ho hos, ice cream and etc is ok to eat while being type II diabetic because he can control it as long as he stays active... lol yeah I am no where near prediabetic but realize I could as easily head that way amongst other potential health risks, therefore I have been doing keto for 2 months and feel SO much better! I refuse to enable his habits therefore he either eats what I make or cook it yourself.. I am that fed up
When he is older, the damage he is doing to his body will snowball. If he keeps it up, he will have serious complications. I hope he sees the error in his ways before you're stuck taking care of him for basic needs.
My friend is the same. He believes he can eat whatever he wants as long as he takes his medicine. He literally takes his metformin with diet Coke and waits an hour then orders takeout. Most of one foot gone over 3 surgeries in 4 years and he's just now beginning to get a clue but only because his renal failure has forced him onto a mostly protein diet
My poor great grandmother had diabetes and had to have toes amutated ....not sure if from both feet, but I think it was from one of her feet. She lived with my grandmother at that time and my grandmother had to treat her foot afterwards....no fun either.
I started on the Keto diet almost 3 years ago. Yes, I cheated now and then because I'm addicted to sugar. If someone offered me a cupcake I would eat it, then go to the store and buy two more cupcakes to eat. I did, however, lose 40 pounds over a two year period. Then I developed diverticulitis. It took 6 weeks and two emergency room visits to be diagnosed. I was considered an enigma because no one could figure out what was causing my severe pain. The pain to me was in the Upper Left side of my torso. Seems it was radiating pain. EKG, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Chest Xray, two MRI's, one before and one after an Upper GI & Colonoscopy. Now I'm told I will most likely need surgery because I've had two severe attacks of Diverticulitis in less than 6 months. And, I'm on a Bland diet high in Carbs which is the opposite of what I should have for Diabetis. So now my blood sugar stays around 300 most of the time. Help
I started out with an A1c of 8.5 my doctor put me on metformin then added Ozempic (I think that's how it is spelled) once weekly injections. I stopped taking the metformin. And after 3 months stopped the injections. I dropped my A1c to 6 purely by diet. I didn't even realize at the time I was doing the keto diet eating veggies and fish and chicken I dropped 25 lbs went to see my doctor over a cold or bronchitis. She checked my A1c and that's when it was 6 she said that's wonderful! Then I told her I done it through diet without taking the meds she got visibly upset and said well that's not good then....😳😲 I stopped going to her after that. That was a year ago. I am still keeping control of my glucose through diet I am 60 lbs. Down from my heaviest weight ever. And the infamation and edema is almost all gone! I still have a long way to go but I am confident that by ignoring my doctors advice I am much healthier for it. Thank you for getting the truth out there! God bless you.🙏🤗
NO WONDER we've never heard WHAT KIND OF Diabetes our various elderly relatives have!!!!! Apparently, their physicians have been just as vague on the issue as everybody else. Maybe, those relatives were never even informed (despite having received "care" for their conditions, for decades). Maybe their docs never even bothered to test. So glad I clicked on this video!
Dr Berry, Wanted to ask if the C-peptide test is relevant for patients who are already on diabetic medications. I learned a lot from your videos. Thank you
Just want everyone to know, Had Cirrhosis of the Liver and it is no more Liver doctor told me my Liver is perfect no scarring and no fat stayed under 10 carbs a day go keto did 4 to 1 ratio of fat to protein. Doc told me that would only get worse wish you could have seen docs face of surprise.
I’m diabetic and I’m just hearing about the Keto diet! I just got out of the hospital a few weeks ago and my AC1 was 11 I have cellulitis in my legs a lot that’s one of the reasons I was in the hospital! My doctor hasn’t done blood work on me in 2 years and I have been on the insulin pump! When Ive been in the hospital they check it there! They always tell me to eat whole wheat and make good choices they don’t help you at all! I have neuropathy in my feet and legs so bad I can’t feel they are numb but I still can feel! I had over 30lb of fluid on me! I was so much sicker than I thought! I’m going to start Keto immediately! I don’t have much money but I’m going to do what I can!!
I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m a nurse and the hospitals do not feed diabetics properly!! Follow all Dr Berrys videos and you will get well! Message me anytime!
I am prediabetic, pcos, morbidly obese 5 ft 2 in 40 year old woman. per my dr. A1c is 6.4. I sometimes have hypoglycemic episodes if I dont eat (not on any diabetic medicine) also turned down metformin since the 1 time it took it for pcos I had an episode of low blood sugar within 15 min. I'm scared not to eat carbs. Keto stillnok??
Please help me, I am intermittent fasting, eating ketogenic lifestyle, eating one meal a day and still not been able to lose weight. I have had an ear infection and a throat infection and a urine infection was taking antibiotics for it and I think I still have a urinary track infections because of the symptoms that I have. My sugars have been very high in the upper 200. I am making vinegar, himalayan salt, lemon and water every day between 2 to 3 times a day. I also make a moringa organic tea with ginger flavor hot tea with water and I add cinnamon and coconut oil. I have been taking metformin 500 mg two in the morning and two at night I also take glimepride 4 mg two in the morning two at night. I know it’s not because of the way of eating it’s probably because I still have an infection in my body that cannot be controlled. I have not been able to lose any weight. I am concerned about my health. I am doing my very best in controlling my eating habits. I have been eating good high fats like kerry gold butter, coconut oil, olive oil and avocados. Medium portion of high fat meats with fats in it like ground beef, pork chops, extra. Very low carbohydrates I eat vegetables like kale, spinach, zucchini, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli. If I crave bread or sweets I make them myself with coconut flour or almond flour use erythritol for sugar substitute, vanilla extract , eggs, cream cheese, heavy whipping cream, and unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened cashew milk. I need help. I get frustrated and discouraged. I am really doing my best. I don’t see results. I know I need to keep going and not give up. I need to maintain. I need to persevere. I know I can. I know I will. I have accomplished I believe and have faith it will get better. I don’t know what else to do ? I appreciate all your TH-cam videos. Thank you.
How do keto work with transplanted patient with the Prednisone and cellcept working against me with my Hba1c at 7.7 right now started keto but fail off during summer now getting back on track and I'm going to ask for a C-peptitde on next blood work
I'm so overwhelmed & frustrated. My boyfriend who is T2, on blood thinners, BP med(doing well), Dr wanted to put him on a stating for cholesterol(we said no). He was on an "assisted" insulin. Now he was told he is in stage 4 CKD. I need help with what we can eat. We we're told not to do keto, the renal diet is so conflicting for diabetes. I'm not agreeing with it & I'm scared. He's scared & really wants to be better. I'm also leary of doing Keto. I've watched & read, but this is his life & I can't keep doing this myself.
Hi i lost most of my pancreases due to gallstones so now iv been diabetic for 11 years but im getting on the ketogenic wagon so my bloods will be low in the morning i only eat 60g carbs but its way to much think i need 10g. And my doctor is useless tells us to eat weetabix and potatoes his on another planet last time i had my bloods checked by him was 3 years ago they really have forgotten about me im only 48 to thanks dr berry from faye uk 🇬🇧
I am a type 1 and I had the same problem with my fasting bgls. I found I needed to lower my basal units of insulin, so I didn't hypo in the mornings. When eating keto try to keep your carbs to 20gm, increase your fat (it will satiate you like nothing else) and pour your time into researching keto recipes. Dr Berry is brilliant.binge watch his videos Keto connect is good for recipes on TH-cam as well.
I have a type of diabetes known as LADA latent autoimmune diabetes in adulthood, I was just wanting to ask if the keto diet is safe for me, I was diagnosed two years ago, and am feeling rather worn down and burned out with this disease and would like to reverse it or at least see an improvement, thank you
but keto foods are not cheap as we are financially not able to spend much either would like to try as I have type 2 diabetes that is starting to get out of control my dr is saying I'm going to have to start using insulin plus looking at heading towards dialysis :(
I knew it was true that there's no "essential carbohydrate". My son's (11) endo tried telling me going low carb/high protein was horrible for him. When I asked why I was given 3 answers when I rebuked the previous one. 1) he needs carbs to grow 2) carbs are essential for kids 3) he will develop DKA from ketones in his urine 4) he will develop an eating disorder We still use her just for prescriptions and haven't seen her in a year but go back this month. I'm going to find a new dr because she either doesn't care or doesn't know.
What about type 1 diabetes???
Of course you can do it with type one but requires you to slowly ease into it and slowly lower carbs. You also have to monitor your ketone levels and will require medical super vision. Try finding a doctor that’ll be willing to work with you on it if yours won’t.
The ketogenic diet is very good for T1Ds as well, you will need to implement it carefully with your doctors help so you can slowly and safely lower your insulin dosage as you decrease your carb intake.
chab1rd 1 This!!!!
@Reina Macarena Thank you. It's for my daughter who has type 1 diabetes since age 3.
(I like seeing the numbers go down, and being able to track what makes numbers go UP )
.About a year ago from memory BP 140/110., 134 on sugar. .. Right now at 160/110, sugar 260 to 300., (Yikes )
Was wondering.what everyone is EATING. . how to get STARTED on KETO as my numbers are high.
Awesome! How easy is it for you to stay on a keto diet?
I appreciate hearing from a board certified MD sooo much who is 'enlightened'. Ty for sharing! Almost 50lbs down since May...no more skin tags ;)
Sad. Very sad.
I wish Dr. Berry as my doctor. He is amazing!
Me too
Me too!!!
justme B then they are really lucky.
He is my Dr. But he doesn't know me ... haha!!
James Luker Good for you, James. Proud of you for being proactive in your health care.
I have prediabetes. Im hoping to have the same results.
67 years old. 40lbs. lighter. valve replacement no longer an issue. Feel fantastic. Thank you for your commitment. You changed my life.
WOOHOO ! 👍
It's too late for my eyes to an extent, but I'm sooo grateful to you for explaining keto and answering all the questions that you have, because with the knowledge you've given me and the research I've done, I no longer will be at risk of the kidney heart circulation and other complications because I've let go of the ADA's coattails
May you do well treating yourself through diet Liz.
@@sarahaugustine4185 Thanks Sarah, i've since started carnivore too and my sugars have constantly been under 140 since 10/4, even when I first wake up (in spite of the stupid dawn phenomena)
Awesome. Stay well.
@@lizwiggins5788 what is dawn phenomena?
Malcolm Achtman. YES !!! When doing vids.. REPEAT THE QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN ASKED !
ABSOLUTELY RIGHT - MY SUGAR LEVEL HAS GONE FROM 185-220 TO 118 SO FAR!
Keep at it, it's worth it.
Go go go! You are doing it! That is awesome!!
Give us an update, you still doing good?
I hope it is good : ) thanks!!
@ Dana Scott , what s you A1c is now? I am hoping below 6.0% and in the low 5.0%
I have always loved butter but even more now on Keto, throwing away Metformin.
I cant imagine anyone with diabetes not already finding keto. I would be searching day and night if I thought I would have to go on insulin. I know people trust their docs advice but wow, thats scary. Great talk doc! xoxoMarjorie
There are a lot... My dad Is one of them. I've prooven to him the benefits of it on me... And he does not believe me
My manager at work went right on to the insulin no questions asked. She thinks low carb diets are 'tasteless' and have no flavor.
Lol
She said she was told to eat 15 grams per meal of carbs for each meal of the day and she's snacks too.
Mark Bousquet how strange. Offer to make her a keto meal & see if she still calls it tasteless after. 🙄
I'm 71 and just diagnosed type 2, never had symptoms I could recognise, starting keto, as low carb as I can do.
I was diagnosed, prescribed med and basically told good luck with it. I'm so thenkful I found this channel!!!!!
Another “Mic drop” presentation..... I love watching you kick ass!!! Thanks for this awesome info!!
@Anna - First of all congrats on your achievement. A good treat is OK once in a while as long as you follow it with keto + IF.
You need to ditch that doctor, stat! Find one who is into Functional Medicine, they will take care of you much better.
First... Keto is the best thing for a diabetic.

How is your A1C now? Did it drop to 5 or below like you thought it would?
I had my dr burning off my skin tags I had developed under my breasts. Not once did he say anything about insulin resistance........
This is the first i've heard that. I have had them for years.
Doctors know how to throw drugs and treatments at things, not about causes or how to reverse conditions.
I had a specialist tell me back in 1998 skin tags are associated with PCOS and insulin resistance.
All my warts & bumps went away after I lost 50 pounds..
Mark Bousquet. Hate to say this but DIABETES INDUSTRY is BIG MONEY... so they aren't interested in CURING YOU.
Best presentation on Diabetes and other diseases I have seen. Thank you Dr Berry.
Good to see you again doctor !
Much Love ❤
Thank you Dr. Berry for helping people and sharing truth.
This video is just loaded with great information. God bless you Dr Ken!
Dr Ken Berry. You’re the best. !! God bless you sir. !!
Great video.
Can you make a video on eating keto with heart disease? Thank you.
During the last period I also quit most of my medications, (metformin, glyburide, metoprolol, & lisinopril),
My kidneys went from stage 3 failure, (egfr of 55), to Stage 2, (egfr of 72).

Excellent! Appreciate your stressing the dangers of high blood sugar and insulin and taking to task the pesky doctors!
Dr. Berry you and your info are amazing!!!!
What was it?
Newly diagnosed and he told me to keep doing what I'm doing really that's what got me in the mess I'm in. Type 2 started keto soon as he told me two days ago only on metformin
Dr. Berry is absolutely the best‼️
Amen, true words from a real Doctor. I 100% agree with DR Berry.

Thank you so much for this, truly is a lifesaver.
My husband thanks he can eat whatever he wants; including ho hos, ice cream and etc is ok to eat while being type II diabetic because he can control it as long as he stays active... lol yeah
I am no where near prediabetic but realize I could as easily head that way amongst other potential health risks, therefore I have been doing keto for 2 months and feel SO much better!
Please do this video in a condensed version. Can't hear questions so half the info is missing.
Hi Doc. Really enjoying all your videos. My 39 year old daughter has POTS. Should she try Keto?
A big thumbs up for Dr. Berry!
Help
Love you Dr Berryyyyy!!! You're the best! 🤗
Then I told her I done it through diet without taking the meds she got visibly upset and said well that's not good then....😳😲
I stopped going to her after that.
Thank you
He said yea it will still be accurate😊

Thank you.
I found out that the longer I fast the better my diabetic sugars go down and now I am loosing weight.
@@beatricemerlos9284 Hang in there and read all the ingredients! Your body needs time to recalibrate!
Is there a A1C test you can over the counter?
When do I check my sugar. Some say two hours after a meal. Another doctor told me once in the morning once at night?
Canada's Frederick Banting discovered Insulin!
I have a type of diabetes known as LADA latent autoimmune diabetes in adulthood, I was just wanting to ask if the keto diet is safe for me, I was diagnosed two years ago, and am feeling rather worn down and burned out with this disease and would like to reverse it or at least see an improvement, thank you
but keto foods are not cheap as we are financially not able to spend much either would like to try as I have type 2 diabetes that is starting to get out of control my dr is saying I'm going to have to start using insulin plus looking at heading towards dialysis :(
GOD BLESS YOU DOC ☺
I knew it was true that there's no "essential carbohydrate". My son's (11) endo tried telling me going low carb/high protein was horrible for him. When I asked why I was given 3 answers when I rebuked the previous one.
1) he needs carbs to grow
2) carbs are essential for kids
3) he will develop DKA from ketones in his urine
4) he will develop an eating disorder
We still use her just for prescriptions and haven't seen her in a year but go back this month. I'm going to find a new dr because she either doesn't care or doesn't know.
Dr Berry, please address hypothyroidism
