    We just got two 2020 Rad Mini ST and really loving it. Fenders (front and rear) are now standard and come with the bike. Tires have a checkerboard pattern and narrower at 20" x 3". Great review. Rad has terrific customer service, pre-sale and post-sale. If you buy one, it's easier to unbox raising the cartoon off the bike than trying to lift the bike out of the box.

    This is a very well designed e-bike from a lot of other manufacturers. Most of all it is very practical, stylish and well manufactured, there are many accessories that can be added for various needs. I am definitely purchasing it in 2019.

    they could do well with a non folding lighter mini next

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wonder if they could also do a standard folding ebike, one that would be lightweight with traditional width tires and maybe magnesium cast wheels for durability. Something more portable than the RadMini models with their fat tires.

      @@ElectricBikeReview I found out about them not too long ago, they are a Florida based company I believe. Got some solid reviews on TH-cam comparing against the 2018 rad mini. Their bike got some solid features and optional customizations and add-ons. Very solid offer. Quality, reliability, reputation? Can't comment on it. I've ridden my voltbike Urban for about a year, but my major drawback is the 350w motor. It makes going up big hills just as miserable as if I'd be on a regular non-electric bike. I've done several upgrades to it to make my ride more comfortable and efficient, but there is no way to upgrade the motor and controller. Although I love it I've been considering selling it and upgrade to a rad mini, based in America versus Canada, stronger motor, versatile fat tires, so much to say.

    Great video! I'm looking for a compact bike but I love the fat tires! I've been between this bike, the iGo Fat Freddy, Wing Freedom Fatty, and the Sonders fat folding bike.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nice, all sound like good choices. RAD is my favorite in terms of customer support and cross compatibility for batteries but I also like iGo. Sondors has been difficult to contact and work with, but their folding fat bike is pretty cool looking. I covered it a bit while looking at the thin folder with a friend last year electricbikereview.com/sondors/fold-sport/

    How was the frameflex on this? Was it considerably better to ride from the high step one?
    there is no grip bar as well, so i would assume that people planning to carry it in apartments would have a tough time due to its weight

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I think it comes with velcro to stay folded but the grip/handle piece isn't as obvious. I'd probably always remove the battery to reduce weight before lifting. Frame flex was similar to the high-step, both felt sturdy and stiff :)

  • @JasOGrowney

  • @hestonb5813
    @hestonb5813 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those tires look very slick, a little rain and some dust doesn't sound stable to me. Also, I saw the rear tire skid a bit when you were braking. Imagine suddenly going down a muddy hill and those tires wouldn't stop you if your life depended on it.

    68 pounds is too heavy for a mini!!!....Allot of bike carriers for auto/trucks have a weight limit of 60lbs per bike....so you are near the limit to transport this bike using a bike rack. RAD needs to have a lightweight alternative with lighter tires/rims and rack system (need a weight of around 40 lbs without the battery pack).

    • @theShamrockShepherdWagon
      @theShamrockShepherdWagon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Removing the battery saves you about 7 lbs so it works with the limit

    • @16boh
      @16boh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jeff Hogueison My carrier is a heavy duty YAKIMA hold-up, which uses a trailer mounted hitch attachment and supports both tires; the battery is easily removed; however, weight for the mini is still TOO HIGH (this is an aluminum mini)...you start to approach 60 lbs and it becomes difficult to mount and transport and with these weights you approach or exceed the limits of most heavy duty bike racks !!!

    Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.

    I need a recommendation so bad.
    Im going to get a bike but im caught between companies at the moment. I dont know which one to buy.
    First im interested in the Green Bike Low Step 750watt with hydraulic brakes and turn signals.
    Lectric XP
    Then the Rad Mini
    Then the Step thru rad mini
    And the rad runner. I would personally like to go for the rad runner but it does not fold. And i require that as a necessity to move around in a car. Also, i would like to know if any of those can be carted around when folded. I need some recomendations. (I was interested on the fat bears from rattan but saw that one review that the buyer got one that looked like an actual bear mauled it and i just lost interest)

    why do rad-mini have such thick fat tyres? most ppl who want fold-able bikes ride in cities. why not have tyres like 2019 rad city?

    • @ensom
      @ensom 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      because the bafang geared hub motor is FAT / WIDE .. so the wheel has to be fat to accomodate the hub motor. since the wheel must be wide, they use fat tires. which in this form factor, seem to have a lot of advantages. it's a heavier bike, so wide tires will sink into soft ground, crushed stone / gravel , sand, etc much less.. in other words, these bikes with wide tires are more versatile and can go almost anywhere. i was sort of turned off by the fat tires too, especially knobbies.. however, now that they have those kenda tires that are slick without knobbies, they are much more appealing to me. if you want a folding bike with traditional skinny road tires, you could always buy a dahon or other folding bike and convert it to electric yourself. lunacycles has one they built, and good conversion kits.
