excellent vid mate very informative and great detail allways helpfull watching these for people to have a go themselfs , it aint rocket science just a process of elimination
Great video. I'm having similar issues with the same gearbox in my AU2 Falcon Ute, the fault codes show 2 solenoids and the speed sensor are no good. It gets stuck in 3rd after driving for a little while and the engine heats up fast. To my knowledge, there are 7 solenoids in total in the BTR 93 LE. They are notorious for reverse gear playing up as well. I did find a 7 solenoid kit on eBay for $460.
hi, yeah if there`s an electrical fault that falls out of manufacturers set computer parameters, trans will go into limp mode. basically trans is designed so that when there is no electrical power ( like if you pulled the electrical plug out ) you can keep mobile to get out of trouble ( no solenoids are on/applied in 3rd gear ). without removing trans you can only replace 6 solenoids ( one, the s7 converter clutch solenoid is located on pump and needs trans out to access ) so there are 5 on/off solenoids + a pressure control solenoid on the valve body. the 2 shift solenoids and the s6 ( which works with the pressure control s5 solenoid ) need to be not leaking, you can get away with the BAR ( band apply reg solenoid ) and CAR ( clutch apply solenoid ) leaking a bit ( actually shifts are nicer if they are leaking a bit ), but all need to be working well elecrically and not sticky or contaminated with fine metallic debris. i wouldn`t replace speed sensor ( you can replace later no pan removal is needed ) until you replace your solenoids. also good idea to air pressure clutches and bands while valve body is out on the ports in the case and also re-shim or adjust bands while valve body is out as well. these are better and cheaper www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-BTR-ION-DSI-Auto-Trans-S5-Pressure-Solenoid-AU-2002-FG-2010-Territory/293029928494?hash=item4439f1de2e:g:RtsAAOSwdFdc53QJ and www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-BTR-ION-DSI-4Sp-Auto-Trans-Shift-Solenoid-EB-to-FG-Falcon-Ford-Territory/293029936216?hash=item4439f1fc58:g:cMIAAOSwEF5c53O2 cheers

Hey mate thankyou so much for the education and possibly the fix for my ba xr6. I am going to try see if it is the answer i have been searching for when i get the time next week. Thanks for sharing your knowledge it is greatly appreciated 👍👍🍻
You only need the S1 and s2 to control the box. S3, S4, s5 are just for smooth shifting. If u don't mind a very hard 1 to 2 shift (2-3 not that harsh) cut s3 and S4 wires on computer side but you need a resistor same as the solenoid and ground it to trick ecu all ok
hi, yes we all know s1 & s2 & s5 ( pressure control ) & s6 & s7 ( tcc ) need to be hunky dory, s4 band apply regulator solenoid and s3 clutch apply regulator solenoid need to be electrically ok, but dont matter if they are leaking a bit. however, the tcm needs to sense some resistance on s3 & s4 ( like you mentioned using resistors in wire somewhere ) to operate properly and to fool tcm to think there is a solenoid there. some people like to mod like you mention, but why bother on average road car for sake of 2 solenoids you would need to drill out ( still needs to be present ) for full flow anyway ? thanks for the input cheers
@@YepThatsIt Am just alerting to a very easy performance shift mod that can be done to these transmissions that does not entail removing the pan off the trans. It involves simply disconnecting S3 and S4 solenoids wires from the ECU (somewhere close to the computer) and putting the wires from the ECU with a dummy load to earth, dummy load for each solenoid should be a single 27 ohm 5 watt resistor to ground, one for each wire on the computer side to stop ECU going into limp. S3,S4 and S5 will no longer do anything in the hydraulic circuit to soften the shifts. Guys have been putting 600 rwhp thru these trans with this mod. I know someone who had a stuffed S5 with shift issues who did this to keep the trans going. Hard shifts are not for everyone but in the performance community, those with turbos its a great mod.
Hey mate, very informative video, no doubt will help me alot. I have an au falcon that is in limp mode and only shifts normally once it gets hot, I was thinking a solenoid problem, could you possibly point me in the right direction? Cheers.
hi, contaminated solenoids. the fine debris gets magnetized and wont demagnetize when solenoid is de-energized, so the debris stays in solenoid and can`t be flushed. cheers

Hey mate, great video, i was wondering if you go to the trouble of torquing up the bolts if there even is a torque setting for them and are all the solenoid the same part number apart from the s5?
hi, i`m sure there would be a torque setting for every bolt. i only torque valve body bolts and head gaskets these days after many years in the trade. just do the solenoid retainer bolts firmly or you will strip them. all the on/off plastic solenoids are the same ( some have filters on end some dont, but all same ) on the early btrs, the s7 solenoids on pump were different and some had metal on/off on valve body in the good old days ( these rarely gave trouble) cheers

Band adjustments seem like a bit of a pain on the btr, well compared to old school trans ,shims and air pressure for a band adjustment from what i read. More interesting study for me.
hi, yeah much of a muchness whether they have shims or an adjustment bolt. the old borg warner trans had a 1/4" spacer which you would pull out after you tensioned the servo arm. always good idea to keep the bands tensioned to specs as they last alot longer.now go and study ;-) cheers
good video Im thinking my solenoid is buggered too.. every now and again it goes into limp mode and my scanner says same thing.. solenoid D electrical (although I have issues when it changes 2nd--3rd does a quick rev) however i could be driving normally on the highway or even on take off sometimes, and D flashes at me.. and scantool is always saying solenoid D electrical so thinking I got to change the S4 solenoid. When you changed your S4, did it make a difference with no more limp mode?
hi, if there is any electrical issue it will throw into limp mode. there is also the issue where the ecu will register the fault code for the biggest or first electrical fault it finds in shift pattern. if you fix only the indicated solenoid and put it back together, it may then find the next faulty one and so on. what i mean is always always check/test as many solenoids as is practical or you will have further issues or short term fix. cheers
@@YepThatsIt cheers... I'll still go with replacing just the 1 solenoid for now... however did you replacing your solenoids fix the limp mode issue and no more Solenoid D Electrical notification when scanning?
Hey mate, I have an 05 territory what would it be if the gearbox won't find reverse, it's not the cable as I have fixed that, but when the reverse is not there I have forward in drive and neutral positions and then sometimes reverse then pops up out of blue thanks 😊
Great video mate but you rushed past the bit that is most important to me. How do I refill the plan with transmission fluid? You showed us where it fills up but how do I get a bottle of transmission fluid up there to pour it in?
@@YepThatsIt hi mate. I think i might have put too much or not enough fluid in the last time I replaced the trans filter and fluid. In another video you said a bit about how the transmission should reach a certain temperature before you fill the sump with trans fluid, can you tell me a bit more about that? After the last time I replaced the trans filter and fluid, when I drive my SY territory the clutch engages for a few seconds while changing up a gear, the car loses acceleration and causes the RPM to spike for a few seconds before clicking back into gear, returning to normal RPM and picking up accleration again. However this problem stars to resolve once the engine has been running for 10 or so minutes. Does this sound like I have too much or not enough trans fluid?
hi, just clip on the right angle part, then the other end should have a slight angle on the spring steel. it should slide into position because of the angled part on clip. hope that makes sense. cheers
Great video, Just a quick question. My BA Falcon with the btr 4 speed is abit slow to go into reverse when cold. Is that normal its done 244,000kms. Shifts fine in drive etc and when hot the reverse is fine.
hi, that could be normal for the 244,000km. what is it like in manual 1st? you might remove valve body check and readjust B2 band shims ( and check Servo seals are not worn or hardened ). otherwise could be C3 clutch worn....but you say is ok when warmed up so I'd also check the Reverse Lockout Valve could be sticky. On BA`s I think S1 & S3 solenoids toggle on/off in Rev as well so they could be contaminated with fine metal especially given that mileage or they could be leaking. Start with removing the Trans Pan and if heaps of metallic and friction debris in there, you need to make an executive decision on what you might want to try or drive it as it is and just do a filter change and service. hope that helps Cheers
Hi thanks for the quick response. I dropped the pan and filter myself around a month ago. It never used to do it before the pan drop. I hope the trans is okay.
my ford falcon transmission and coolant water mixed, after flush and now transmission working properly but after driving 30 and 40 km transmission does not engage in reverse suggestion plz
hi, always check the basics first. make sure not under or overfilled. overfilled will cause aeration of fluid. if that all checks out ok, the coolant may have done damage to clutch and band linings. cheers
I have Ford Territory 2005 GHIA RWD 127000km. Had a Transmission service recently and mechanic advised oil was dirty and low. Now the reverse is not working, otherwise all good. The gear moves into reverse but there is no thrust. What do you think the issue is ? Don’t want spend to much but want to keep it . Thanks for any advice. @YepThatsit
hi, check all the basics first. can be issue with seals in the rear servo, rear band adjustment, pressure leak in clutches etc. you can air pressure test apply ports if you remove vbody. sorry hard to determine without seeing it. cheers
Hey mate, great video! I’ve got a turbo territory with the zf 6 speed box. Has just thrown it in to limp mode bringing up solenoid a fault. Reckon I’m up for the same fix? Do you know if they’re hard to change
hi, before you replace anything, make sure your battery is fully charged and holds power ( modern day alternators only maintain batteries, they don`t really charge them )...make sure fluid level is where it should be, then clear the codes and road test again. if code comes back, you might try flushing that solenoid ( and all of them while you`re there ) bench test resistance and replace the ones that look iffy. cheers
oh and remove and refit external plug few times, blow out and squirt some wd40 or crc in there too before you remove pan....still worth doing a service regardless if these few things fix it. cheers
Gday iv got a p0731:00-AF 1st gear ratio fault .on 2011 territoy sz..It will go in gear cold then not when warm after 5 min...also no limp mode..Would that be solenoids ..Iv got one of those thinkdiag live scan its got all the solenoids with Amp and psi.. Cheers
hi, yes reco means dismantled and faults/worn/broken parts are repaired and/or replaced. 2nd hand is just used solenoids that have hopefully been tested and shown to be still ok. cheers
Hey mate i like your videos. At the moment my 2001 model au falcon trans isnt shifting from D to 3rd 2nd or 1st while driving. It isnt pulling the car up like it used to even tried going into first on the highway and it kept going like it was in drive. I have done an oil and filter change.just need a mechanics input would my problem relate to the solenoids at all
hi, if it is stuck in 3rd gear more than likely is limp mode. one or more solenoids aren`t working properly so computer sets limp mode. get a scan tool and see if any fault codes stored. cheers
Hi mate what fault code did you get? I have a bf that currently show PRND flashing on the dash and now isn't there at all. I did a service today on the automatic today and now realised it is leaking deon the torque converter end would this cause my problem? I currently have no fault codes
hi, check the basics first including fluid level, earth straps, strong battery, electrical connections etc. electrical issues outside programmed parameters will throw a fault code. a leaking solenoid will not give a fault code on these trans. cheers
I've the same issues. Hopefully my answer is within this with the flashing dash light. Spent $900 first service, second service $600 to Try correct kickdown issues at high speed.. Now a flashing dash.. great car but man these gearbox issues on the 6speed 😞
Oil is a tad dirty? So much for ford and it's "don't need to change the oil under 50,000 klms" :) hahaha. Makes it MUCH easier to drain oil on a hoist. :)

Band adjustments seem like a bit of a pain on the btr, well compared to old school trans ,shims and air pressure for a band adjustment from what i read. More interesting study for me.
hi, yeah much of a muchness whether they have shims or an adjustment bolt. the old borg warner trans had a 1/4" spacer which you would pull out after you tensioned the servo arm. always good idea to keep the bands tensioned to specs as they last alot longer.now go and study ;-) cheers
good video
Im thinking my solenoid is buggered too.. every now and again it goes into limp mode and my scanner says same thing.. solenoid D electrical (although I have issues when it changes 2nd--3rd does a quick rev) however i could be driving normally on the highway or even on take off sometimes, and D flashes at me.. and scantool is always saying solenoid D electrical so thinking I got to change the S4 solenoid.
Hey mate, I have an 05 territory
what would it be if the gearbox won't find reverse, it's not the cable as I have fixed that, but when the reverse is not there I have forward in drive and neutral positions and then sometimes reverse then pops up out of blue
thanks 😊
hi, sounds like clutch pack worn and gets stuck. check all the basics first. cheers
I have same problem. How did you end up fixing no reverse?
Many thanks. You saved me a lot
hi, glad helped, a beer is always well appreciated. link is in description. cheers
So how much did all this cost the customer? Solenoids, oil, materials etc, not including labour and diagnostic?
You can reuse the trans oil and filter to save money. Bill the customer around $600
Great video mate but you rushed past the bit that is most important to me. How do I refill the plan with transmission fluid? You showed us where it fills up but how do I get a bottle of transmission fluid up there to pour it in?
hi, we use a pump in 60L drum. cheers
Hi there I’m having a bit of a hard time getting the clip back on that holds the filter in
Any suggestions?
hi, just clip on the right angle part, then the other end should have a slight angle on the spring steel. it should slide into position because of the angled part on clip. hope that makes sense. cheers
@@YepThatsIt ok I’ll give it a go
Thanks
Great video,
Just a quick question.
In manual mode, it shifts fine.
my ford falcon transmission and coolant water mixed, after flush and now transmission working properly but after driving 30 and 40 km transmission does not engage in reverse suggestion plz
hi, always check the basics first. make sure not under or overfilled. overfilled will cause aeration of fluid. if that all checks out ok, the coolant may have done damage to clutch and band linings. cheers
Good video 👍 cheers mate
no worries, thanks & cheers
Thanks for the save
thanks & cheers 👍
I have Ford Territory 2005 GHIA RWD 127000km.
Had a Transmission service recently and mechanic advised oil was dirty and low. Now the reverse is not working, otherwise all good. The gear moves into reverse but there is no thrust.
What do you think the issue is ?
Don’t want spend to much but want to keep it .
Thanks for any advice. @YepThatsit
hi, check all the basics first. can be issue with seals in the rear servo, rear band adjustment, pressure leak in clutches etc. you can air pressure test apply ports if you remove vbody. sorry hard to determine without seeing it. cheers
Thank you, big help.
glad to hear, hopefully i deserve a beer www.paypal.me/BATS189 cheers
I have a 2012 disel territory Ts. The car not going in in 3 gear. What can be the reason? Please help me.
From Melbourne Australia.
hi, start by checking all basics first. could be any number of things, i`d need more info. cheers
biggest nightmere on a 2008 awd is replacing the starter motor, do you ever run into this problem, top bolt is soo hard to get to
hi, working under hoist probably makes it a bit easier....but I can assure you there are plenty a lot worse haha. cheers
What about the problem oil linking the car running up the hill and stop there no move up the oil running down can u help me please
hi, make sure you check all the basics first and work from there. cheers
Hi mate,, I’m wondering about my ford territory 2006 2wd , PERF sign comes on,, its that bad thing?? Thanks
hi, could be warning. cheers
YepThatsIt thanks for your reply,, warnings for problem??
Hey mate, great video! I’ve got a turbo territory with the zf 6 speed box.
Has just thrown it in to limp mode bringing up solenoid a fault. Reckon I’m up for the same fix? Do you know if they’re hard to change
hi, not that hard to change. have fun cheers
YepThatsIt my computer says solenoid “A” low circuit, that’s defiantly a fucked solenoid?
hi, before you replace anything, make sure your battery is fully charged and holds power ( modern day alternators only maintain batteries, they don`t really charge them )...make sure fluid level is where it should be, then clear the codes and road test again. if code comes back, you might try flushing that solenoid ( and all of them while you`re there ) bench test resistance and replace the ones that look iffy. cheers
oh and remove and refit external plug few times, blow out and squirt some wd40 or crc in there too before you remove pan....still worth doing a service regardless if these few things fix it. cheers
YepThatsIt thanks heaps for that mate, I’m really suspicious of it being a faulty battery
Cheers
hi, start with all the basic checks first. cheers
and thankyou for a good video,
thanks & cheers
a reco solenoid? is that a new 2nd hand solenoid?
hi, yes reco means dismantled and faults/worn/broken parts are repaired and/or replaced.
I have done an oil and filter change.just need a mechanics input would my problem relate to the solenoids at all
hi, if it is stuck in 3rd gear more than likely is limp mode. one or more solenoids aren`t working properly so computer sets limp mode. get a scan tool and see if any fault codes stored. cheers
I tried an obd2 scan tool today and i have a linking error
Ive noticed anything past AU that has CANBUS one fault with show up many errors.
hi, yeah modern systems rely on info from each other to be able to work most effectively and efficiently. cheers
Hi mate what fault code did you get?
I have a bf that currently show PRND flashing on the dash and now isn't there at all.
I did a service today on the automatic today and now realised it is leaking deon the torque converter end would this cause my problem? I currently have no fault codes
hi, check the basics first including fluid level, earth straps, strong battery, electrical connections etc. electrical issues outside programmed parameters will throw a fault code. a leaking solenoid will not give a fault code on these trans. cheers
Gday mate thanks for the reply.
Gave the box a service and seems to be good now.....cheers mate
I've the same issues. Hopefully my answer is within this with the flashing dash light. Spent $900 first service, second service $600 to Try correct kickdown issues at high speed.. Now a flashing dash.. great car but man these gearbox issues on the 6speed 😞
From where did u fill ut
hi, there is a filler plug on rhs if transmission. cheers
Oil is a tad dirty? So much for ford and it's "don't need to change the oil under 50,000 klms" :) hahaha. Makes it MUCH easier to drain oil on a hoist. :)
hi, definitely need to "clean up" what is suspended in the fluid and what gremlins are in pan and filter. I take my hat off to people that work on stands and on ground ! cheers
nice video
