    I played in a band called the Fridgidaires back in the early 80s, and we backed Jack up on a brief tour of southwestern Ontario. We learned all of his original recordings, backing vocals as well, and our first night on stage, when we hit the harmonies, he turned back and looked at the band astonishingly, and couldn't believe that we had taken the time to learn all the parts. I'll never forget that time in my life, and now that we have the internet and youtube, I have a new appreciation for the effect that he had on so many people from that era, that I didn't have at the time....god bless you Jack Scott...

      The Frigidaires. Very cool. How great to play with Jack Scott. I remember the first time I heard "Goodbye Baby", sitting in the back seat of our family car. I felt that was a special, and different song from that moment. He was one of my very favorites. Thanks for sharing your memories.

      Now that you mention it, I can see the melodic reversal. "Subconsciously inspired by" may be a better phrase than "based on." Look at "The Triumphal March from Aida" and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" as another example.

    • @TomElvisSmith
      @TomElvisSmith 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's definitely not recorded in 1961 anyway. I've read online that it was actually recorded in 1990 and released on an album in 1991 without Jack's knowledge. The album was titled "Jack Scott: Live 1961" to mislead buyers. If you are on the recording though, and say that it was recorded in 1981, that has to be the real date. In any case, Jack's voice sounds different than it did in the '60's, and one can tell it's not an old recording.

      +Tom Smith The song was recorded in the mid-80s at a bar in Utica Michigan. There is also a studio version featuring a children's choir that has never been released.

      Jack played this in 1991 at the annual Winter Dance Party in Clear Lake Iowa. Desert Storm was raging. When he played this for the encore it brought the house down. Most had never heard it.

      Vern, do you remember the year this was recorded? If it was really 1961 this was a great recording? Never get tired of playing this darn thing. I wish it would have come out on vinyl. My best to you.

    • @warrensnetwork
      @warrensnetwork 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronniesalyer3095 Jack debuted this in 1991 as an Encore when he headlined The Winter Dance Party at Clear Lake Iowa with Carl Perkins and Wanda Jackson. It was Desert Storm in Iraq at the time. No one in The Crowd had ever heard it before. The place when crazy. SIX standing ovations. Unfortunately it's never legally been released. Duane Eddy wouldn't give his permission.

    In 1963 The British Musical Invasion took place and swept out Jack Scott (a Canadian) , Duane Eddy and just about all the top selling American pop stars as the American public spurned American music...wanting it Limey-style. These days Detroit, Mich is a ruined city after Americans spurned American cars...wanting mainly German and Japanese vehicles.

      And like Colin said, in the 70s n 80s the UK and Scandinavia started hosting the great North American rockers like Jack, who even then were largely ignored by their own countries, without us these guys and gals would have stopped performing their 50s material, and now thro people like Londoner Tom Ingram and his VLV weekenders America has rediscovered RnR and RaB again, so hey we're not all bad here Brunon ;-) . BTW the reason sane Americans spurned US cars was cos they were crap-handling unefficient gas-guzzlers that were out of touch with what the world and world's people needed. No doubt under Trump they may become popular again lol.

    Rebel Rouser never was called the national anthem of rock and roll. It`s rock around the clock by Bill Haley and his Comets. But I like this version very much. By the way Jack Scott was one of the most underrated artists of rockabilly.
