@@jhandle4196 I think Paul genuinely appreciated Duane Eddy and used his position on Letterman to shine a light on many underappreciated music legends. E.g., Darlene Love's appearances on Letterman revitalized her career.
Just heard that Duane passed & have to say he was my first guitar hero, got me mimicking his twangy tunes on a broomstick when I was 9! Parents got me a guitar shortly after in '64, been playing ever since. Even made a living at it in a couple of local rock bands. Loved that my parents listened to him & they loved when I played his stuff. R.I.P.
Grew up in my younger days listening to Duane. My 6th grade teacher brought in an amp and his guitar and played Rabble Rouser for us. I was hooked for life that sound. In my seventies now and just bought a Gretsch guitar like the one that Duane is playing in this video. Many thanks Duane for making my life and heart smile.
@@Rieslingontheriver That is correct. The guitar is a Guild Duane Eddy Signature Model DE500. I have a 1963 Duane Eddy Model DE400. These are great guitars!
RIP. Another one of the foundational greats, gone for ever. I'm sure a lot of people had a similar experience of hearing the news, going on TH-cam to look up Rebel Rouser, and then going, "Oh yeah, I definitely know this song". I don't think people realize how foundational and influential guys like Duane really are. RIP
Met Duane a few years back at the 100 club London, great guy. Hung around after the show and he signed a copy of one of his records for me... God speed Duane Eddy and thank you for the music and the memories...
RIP, Duane Eddy! Also, I have to give serious props to Paul--not only is he a consummate musician and bandleader, but you can tell he's still a fanboy at heart.
l found a Duane Eddy album the one with rebel rouser about 12 yrs old AND PLAYED IT AND PLAYED IT. my FIRST rock and roll album. no wonder l took to the sound !!!
I played that guitar in back of my limo when I told Mr Eddy I played he pulled it out and handed it to me I sat in the back with Mr Eddy and the Everlys playing Mr Eddys guitar 🎸 beautiful man extra special! Super humble I have missed him ever since Music god!
Paul was super into the session! What a fun video...I was just thinking of all the movies and video games this tune was used in..Run Forrest Run! The best Twang in Rock N Roll RIP Duane.
Great performance! And who have thought back then in 1985 that the drummer in the band, Steve Jordan, would, nearly forty years later, be on tour with Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones?
So blessed cool!! In every aspect. Duane Eddy was damn cool!! It was also great seeing him on Letterman. He and Paul were great about having cool musicians on the show playing with the band. So miss that!! And to see Paul's obvious thrill to be playing with him was great!! RIP Duane!!!
Even as a Brit, it's impossible to overestimate the influence of this guy. You can talk Hendrix all day long, but this came first. And, in the long run, came reams of rock either directly or indirectly inspired by him.
I remember hearing Rebel Rouser over WINS NY AM radio for the first time in 58 in the back seat of the station wagon. Us kids would go crazy and yell "turn it up Dad, turn it up!". And he would. Thanks for the music Duane Eddy!
R. I. P. Duane. Heaven must be rocking right now. I can see Duane duking it out with Glen Campbell, Duane Allman, B. B. King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan as we speak.
I WAS 8 YEARS OLD BACK IN 1958 I STARTED BASS AND GUITAR WHEN I WAS 10 UEARS OLD IN 1960 MY OLDER BROTHER RAY SHOWED ME THIS CRAZY COOL SONG UNABLE TO CONTINUE ON GUITAR I’M STILL PLAYING BASS IN 2024 THANK YOU DUANE EDDY CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
I was playing Rock & Roll instrumentals on Spotify and his song Cannonball came out and looked him up and boom he passed away not too long ago. That's crazy Something brought me here.
My father played guitar and had some sheet music of Duane Eddy. My brother drew sunglasses and a mustache on Eddy's face on the cover. The old man was not happy about that.
I was only 8 years old when I first heard this sound in1970 right after my baby nephew and my dad passed after one another, I was thinking who plays this song ,here when Duane pass on finally know who played this guitar after 54 yrs later.
RIP Duane - his guitar sound is unmistakable and immediately recognized.
~ rest in paradise ~ 😔 🕯
agree 100%
You can tell how thrilled Paul was to have him there and to be able to play alongside him.
Paul's a better actor than realized. I more saw what Paul was doing as mocking how boringly simplistic this "country music hit" is.
@@jhandle4196 I think Paul genuinely appreciated Duane Eddy and used his position on Letterman to shine a light on many underappreciated music legends. E.g., Darlene Love's appearances on Letterman revitalized her career.
The thrill seemed to be mutual. RIP Mr Eddy. Condolences to his family friends and fans!!

I listened to his music as a pre-teen and early teen. Great memories.
As soon as you hear that guitar you know who it is. An American legend. May he rest in peace.

Cool teacher! ❤️🎶🎸
Barry, I agree with you on being hooked for life. And smiling. But it ain't a Gretsch. It's a Guild Duane Eddy Signature model.

Duane and Deed were our neighbors in Tahoe when I was a kid. I had no idea how famous he was. They were the nicest people

Classic performance!
Rest in peace Duane. Thanks for the music.
Nice to hear real musicians!
Rebel Rouser was the first record I bought, ex jukebox copy. Another legend of my youth passes RIP
Great performance! And who have thought back then in 1985 that the drummer in the band, Steve Jordan, would, nearly forty years later, be on tour with Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones?
Steve Jordan can play with anyone! Chuck Berry loved him!
He's on Keith's solo records too, and he tours with John Mayer. One of the greats. Anton's no slouch either.
I was wondering who the drummer was
Also a blues brother
To Tom Gally, to answer your question, anyone that pays attention. He the drummer in Keth Richards band, the X Pensive Winos
The Golden Twang himself! Thanks for posting this.
I saw Duane about a couple years after this. He opened for Chris Isaak, which must've been a dream come true for Chris!
RIP Duane and a Heartfelt ♥️😢♥️ Thank You for Your Music 🎶 Which I Grew Up With and Influenced Me into Playing Guitar 🎶♥️🎶🙏
Immortal classic music rip
Loved his guitar playing RIP GUITAR MAN ❤
... they should have hired the horn section for this tune RIP Mr. Eddy 🎸
Sadly Duane passed away on my birthday. This was a fantastic clip of Duane doing what he did best for decades. What a legend and legacy.

Wow, absolutely brilliant.
His Unique Talent has Left this World now but even not knowing his Name I Definitely recognise his Sound. Incredible, must listen to more 👏

Great tune! RIP 🎶🪦🎶
I met him at a restaurant and he was so shy!
Love his sound!!🎶🎼❤️
Thanks Dave. Good tribute to Duane Eddy!
I first heard this song on an 8 Track tape in the early 70s. Couldnt stop playing it.
I remember hearing Rebel Rouser over WINS NY AM radio for the first time in 58 in the back seat of the station wagon. Us kids would go crazy and yell "turn it up Dad, turn it up!". And he would. Thanks for the music Duane Eddy!
R.I.P. Duane Eddy. One of the greatest influences on the guitar and instrumentals.
Run Forrest run! Cool tune
Now that I hear it, it always reminds me of that scene!!
Farewell good sir ❤️❤️
Legend...thanks for the tunes.
One of the great early influences. Unmistakeable sound and techniques.
That ole boy can play a guitar ❤
Had this single when I was 4 or 5, alongside the usual kiddie records. Wore it out!
Another legend in our time has passed into that Heaven Jam in the Clouds!!
Genial! Um grande e brilhante guitarrista! Viveu muito e viveu bem! O céu o recebe com festa!
Duane, Richard Tandy, Dickie Betts. The rock pioneers are dropping almost weekly.
It’s like Will the Circle Be Unbroken and When the Saints Go Marching In had a baby. RIP to Duane

Спасибо, Дуэйн, я всегда именно эту песню наигрываю разогрева ради, прежде чем сыграть что бы то ни было ещё. Да упокоит Бог вашу душу.

Is that Bill Lee on Bass? RIP Mr. Eddy and thanks for inspiring the Beatles.
R.I.P. Duane, awesome sound as always. 🎸🎼🙏
My father played guitar and had some sheet music of Duane Eddy. My brother drew sunglasses and a mustache on Eddy's face on the cover. The old man was not happy about that.
He was my moms cousin she is not here now but always talked about him growing up. I never met him.
That's cool 😎
Seeing as how he just passed im sorry for your family’s loss
Gotta learn this one
Smooth. Silky smooth.
Everyone was having such a good time. Will Lee was really digging it
Paul was a great late night show band leader, just GREAT! Duane Eddy, James Brown and whoever, Paul fit the bill!!
RIP maestro😢
Rest in Peace Duane Eddy!
Amazing. And the next night, Chet Atkins was on the show.
In a little less than 10 years his song would be used in Forrest Gump which had a popular 2 disc soundtrack.
One of a kind
I was only 8 years old when I first heard this sound in1970 right after my baby nephew and my dad passed after one another, I was thinking who plays this song ,here when Duane pass on finally know who played this guitar after 54 yrs later.
You took your twangy guitar and traveled. You were a legend. Fare thee well
What a sad song . RIP Duane 🙏
Learned many licks off of Mr. Eddy! Dance to the Guitar Man. Yeh!
I could play this when I was 13 years old...The only problem was.....I sounded nothing like D/E....My hero...!
RIP Duane ❤
