This reminds me of the country music of Puerto Rico. We call such "Jibaro" music which originally was played with hand made instruments. Jarocho has a rhythm which makes you move and start dancing. Hats off to Vera Cruz.
I'm from the North, I love it. It takes me exactly to the place it was created Veracruz. I can't listen to too many Norteñas without starting to feel bored myself. But it is what it is. Thats why there's a whole smorgasbord of music to choose from in Mexico. Take your pick.

You can hear a lot of Jibaro sound in the salsa from NYC back in the 70s.

The harp is called arpa jarocha, the tiny guitar is called jarana.
