    I'm loving my SCX6. As usual, RTR steering servo just doesn't get the job done. Reef's 2000 fixed that and took the load off the stock BEC/ESC. No more ESC fan sagging. I like the stock transmitter a little. The telemetry for the SMART batteries is cool and useful. The insane complexity of adjusting travel end points? Not so much. FS-GT5 Tx fixed that. The SCX6 is a great platform for open trail running and Rock Crawling. If you can only go to a 10th scale comp course, don't get one. It won't fit. If you want an RC trail, crawl and do it all rig? Get one now! I run mine on 3s 5000MaH, carrying 2 batteries and a 15oz Bluetooth speaker to make it a stupid expensive trail radio, LoL. Love it!!!

    Very cool update video! I kinda like the creaks and groans too. New hot area in trail trucks... Scale noises!! Glad to know it is holding up well after so much run time.

    also make sure after cleaning the shifting shaft to put some oil/lubrication on the shaft and make sure it moves nice and easy. have a summit this kept happening to cleaned it and made sure the seals and shaft was very well lubed and havent had an issue since and i run it without a body and through mud water rocks gravel and no issues since...

    The shift servo mount flexes, just replace the mount with an aluminum one. Also a lot of other owners changes the steering servo with a direct power servo or add a better external BEC with removing the positive wire from the ESC.

  • @oldrcrich

    Based on what i can see and the conditions your running in, I think the linkage is sticking in the case due to being dirty. I would suggest cleaning the area where the shift rod enters the transmission as well as making sure the servo saver is operating smoothly. Thanks for the follow up video on my project 😉

    The inside of that transmission is not very complicated. First thing you want to do is see if the rod is moving back and forth fully from the servo. If you switch it into high gear with the body off and it doesn't go in then you push against it with your finger and it goes in then you've got a problem with the servo not moving fully for not being powerful enough. If the shift rod is moving completely and it still isn't going in then there's something broken or worn out inside. Take it apart and look at the shift fork and the shift dogs on the slider. The problem should be pretty apparent.

    • @greggunia8193
      @greggunia8193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn’t take a lot to engage it (force wise) - betting that spectrum servo just isn’t holding up well.

    I had an exactly the same problem with the gear issue that you have here. Mine was brand new though. I contacted the Horizon Hobby and they said that's normal. I just bought an aftermarket unit, it's all metal including the case and the problem disappeared.

  • @EJ-74

    Awesome RC. 🔥 It's probably just the linkage needs adjusting. That's a common thing with linkages they come loose with vibration and binded up with mad and dirt. Should be a pretty easy fix long as it's not a stripped gear or shifting fork or how ever it applies pressure to push the gear in place. I haven't seen exactly how this particular shifting system works but I'd imagine it's close to ones I have seen and worked on.
    Definitely a cool RC and cool vid. 🔥👍✌️

  • @RCDevotee

    Very cool truck! I think the shifting issue is due to the shifting servo not quite hitting the stock endpoints consistently due to wear and tear. I do one of two things: 1) I adjust the servo end points so they go a little more than needed to make sure it goes to full lock when it shifts. 2) Replace the servo with a stronger one if option 1 does not work. I am pretty sure the shifting issue is not tied to any of the actual gears since those are super beefy. I have also changed the servo horn to a metal one in order to take out any flex from the servo side.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      good point, I was hoping it might just be something with the servo. I'm not digging into that gearbox unless it's absolutely necessary lol

    • @greggunia8193
      @greggunia8193 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stock servos are pretty weak period, add that flexy mount setup for the shift servo and I’ve already just been expecting it to go out before too long.
      My intention is to simply replace the servo with a halfway decent standard one and call it a day

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@greggunia8193 yeah good idea, would probably solve the problem. Wish they would have gone with good servos from the start since it's the halo truck right now.

    • @greggunia8193
      @greggunia8193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DiscoverRC rtr servos usually stink 🤷‍♂️
      I’ve unhooked the linkage and played with it a bit - think any standard or normal voltage “hi torque” servo with metal gears should hold up a long time

  • @greggunia8193
    @greggunia8193 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The creaking is likely mostly driver side panhard mount on the shock tower. Can upgrade tower or run a bolt all the way through and eliminate ALOT of the creaking.

    9:30 Those wheels look like doughnuts now 😋
    This is a really impressive car, I must say! Not to compare with my mid 80's Datsun 240Z, which is more of a Paris-Dakar thing. Driven by .25 four-stroke nitro engine by then, I recently converted it to electric power so I can drive it around my house. And I can reverse it now, after almost 40 years of only forward driving...

    I know this is an old video and you probably figured it out. But I’m thinking it’s your bearings causing the squeak. Axial didn’t put sealed bearings in it. I pulled my diffs apart and discovered some froze up bearings. Going to get some Fast Eddy’s.

    As far as the gear change goes. It sounds as if the servo is going weak or it just isn't completing its rotation to push the pin to lock the gears.

    IN the tranny, the shifter is likely not engaging the cogs fully and when you reengage it, it finally is lined up to high gear and slides into place as it should.

    I'm not one to complain about a product and its functionality, but why in tarnation would it not have a differential unlock/lock feature and portal axles!!! The steering really sucks with fully locked diffs..and having a dig feature with just front locked would make it a for sure sale to me..but hey I love RC because there's no limit to what customizations are possible with a bone stock product..there's endless possibilities and people have pushed the boundaries of whats possible with actual 4 cylinder turbo engines and manual gear boxes on a scale RC model...its a really awesome time to be in RC these days..thanks for a great review of the SCX 6..I would paint it black just like my jeep wrangler X limited! NSTRC!!!

    Oh my God do not give it gas when it’s not in gear. You’re going to strip those gears out. Come to a complete stop. Press the button. Maybe hold the button for a good second. See if that helps. Then give it a little bit of gas. It’s probably just the parameters of the shifting servo. If you come to a complete stop and kind of wiggled the truck when you press the servo button it should go right into gear.

    • @DiscoverRC
      @DiscoverRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no worries - it was just to show how it falls out of gear. I'm not going around grinding the gears lol. Anyway, coming to a complete stop to shift is not recommended in the manual. The procedure to shift is at low speed 2-3 mph.
