CAUTION, food poisoning story... Used to love shrimp and crab when I was young. Once, when I was 12, we went on a vacation to the west coast where I discovered I loved clam chowder, and also fried clams. Returning from our road trip, on the last night and last stop we ate at Red Lobster in Midland, Texas. I absolutely gorged on fried clam strips. BTW, did ya'll know that "midland" is an old native word for " Far from any ocean"? If I had know this, I might have been suspicious about the freshness of the seafood one would find in the dead center of Texas. I got so sick that night in the hotel, never had such trouble in all my 51 years as I had that night. It was all my effort to stop vomiting long enough to sit explosively on the toilet. Then to stop exploding on the toilet long enough to vomit. IT WAS BAD. Ever since that fateful night, I can barely nibble on any shell fish without losing my appetite. The smell, fresh or cooked gives me a headache and turns my stomach. I really want to eat shrimp, crab and etc but I just can't. Strangely I can eat and enjoy Cephalopoda, but not at Red Lobster and certainly not in Midland Texas...

There is a reason why many sportsmen will not fish or hunt south of the United States. And, if they do, they are not respectable sportsmen. Our southern neighbors do not respect responsible sporting seasons. We have "seasons" for fishing and hunting that promote the continuation of the species. Especially in seafood and waterfowl. In this video, you held a crab full of eggs. That crab would have been thrown back. The same is true with lobsters. That is why the fishing industry is enduring hard times because so many countries, like China, Japan, and North Korea, have fished out their own waters without regard for future fishing. You have so many viewers that might help share the importance of maintaining the world's wildlife. Because it is our future food bank. Clean rivers and oceans are necessary for a healthy population.
I hope you enjoyed your stay in Chile, but I think you missed out on a lot of dishes: Caldillo de congrio (Dish mentioned in a poem by a Chilean Nobel laureate in literature) Pastel de Jaiba Cancato (Salmon with cheese, tomato, and a pork sausage called longaniza) Pailla marina: A Chilean seafood stew with curative powers Pailla marina is a hearty and flavorful dish that showcases the bounty of Chile's Pacific coast. It's a symphony of seafood, cooked in a fragrant broth of white wine, fish stock, and spices, and served steaming hot. Traditionally, paila marina is believed to possess hangover-curing properties, making it a popular remedy after a night of revelry.
