@@CheezPuff_20117 they are not. And once you see first person what they are able to do and give when being a beloved pet you will never think otherwise. I relocate the wildlings, last summer I cared for an injured mouse a month and he would even come if called.
Can also be litter trained, like a dog or a cat. (Not correcting you, just adding that information for people who don't know.) All our rats also knew their names, and came when called. Very smart, and easy to train. A trained rat was on America's Got Talent. The ONLY reason I don't have them anymore is because their lives are so short. Also, they groom more than cats and dogs do. (Edited to add the last sentence.)
@@hollyhayes9640 Yes I know, I miss my baby girls and they became potty trained in their first week home. I agree with you that their lives are too short, anyway I will certainly repeat but at my current place vets are not familiar with them and it is important for me to have a vet I can trust.
@@CheezPuff_20117 Exactly! They're actually even cleaner than most cats and dogs. Like, I think the reason people don't like them is because they believe that rats are diseased or plague ridden, but they're not!
I used to have a rat. His name was Robert The Rat (like Kermit The Frog). He was the best little guy. I weeped when he died of old age. He was very friendly to all and liked to snuggle. His favorite treat was Life cereal and he liked pieces of freah vegetable trimmings. That was about 40 years ago. I will never forget Robert.

literally ANY rat video I see that shows a rat happy, safe and healthy makes my day. They are intelligent, underrated, innocent, sweet creatures. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to experience rats themselves to know how amazing they truly are. This video here is a perfect example!

It did brighten my day because I just lost 2 of my rats yesterday Nintendo and Atari were so precious I loved them so much.

This always makes me feel great, Ratties are the best! I have had 20 in my past, I had to stop because of their life span. Maybe in the future I will be able to have a few again. I love them so!

I know what you mean James. I adore rats. They are my most fave animal of all. My 2 girls passed away last year and I miss them. You get so attached to them, then they pass away. :(
The only solution to rattie heartbreak is...MORE ratties. When I ran into this problem after being owned by about 15 rats, I wanted to get round the age thing. So I went for a Gambian Pouched rat (more closely related to hamsters than rats). Poppy is now 3 years old (and could live up to 8 but more likely 6). Although there are certain superficial similarities, pouchies are a different thing altogether but I don't know what I'd do without her. However...there is still a fancy shaped hole in my heart
@@ReiverBlue1971 Yes, I've read that Gambian rats are more wild! I hope you and Poppy have many happy years together. I know what you mean about fancy rat holes. There's just something special about fancy rats.

Almost cat or doglike the way that they respond to a human's. touch! Not to mention they are soooooo cute!!!!!!!
They behave and play like dogs, hence "Pocket puppers" but they groom themselves, and each other, like cats. Also baby rats, and mice, are called pups. Weirdly though males and females are bucks and does respectively.
These little creatures would sure enough brighten most anyone's day!! Love! Love! They way behave and look cute as can be they are!!!

Never understood how people could be afraid of rats and/or mice. I think they're quite cute. The only reason I haven't bought a couple of them is their short life span. Losing pets always leaves me distraught.

Omg! I had one rat and my Sister and Brother had one each too for some months but we had to smell them cuz they peed so much and were to responsable for us, i miss them so much. Rats are the cutest things

New pet rat owner. Found out that rats taste and smell everything. Very rarely bite, just lick a lot. Realized this when Romeo & Remi constantly kept on licking my fingers 😆 it's so cute but scary b/c I thought they were setting me up to get bit. LoL 🤣 rats & flying squirrels/squirrels tend to lick more than bite and mice, hamsters & gerbils tend to bite the handler/feeder. (Yeah, I thought, What?) But it's true ☺️💕 Flying squirrels have to eats sugar so they can stay alive so I can get why it tastes everything. A regular squirrel ( if handled by humans) will BOND with that ONE HUMAN & Love that ONE HUMAN. Bite EVERYONE & EVERY FURBABY AROUND but Loves their ONE HUMAN. LOL 🤪🐿️💗

Rats may have caused the black plague but that was about 600 years ago now there cute cuddly pets
to be fair its was the fleas/ticks so keep your rat clean :)

It was our own lack of cleanliness and sanitation that caused the black plague, humans back then just threw their shit and piss out of the window and into the street, but let's blame rats. Rats are remarkably clean animals, and will only be as dirty as the environment they are living in, if the environment they're living in is filthy, and it's an environment that we created, then that reflects badly on us, not them.
