I am proud to have been one of the 15 finalists (out of 600) in this competition. Over the years, I wondered if any videos of this exist. My performance confirms that I was not relaxed, played everything WAY too fast and made a lot of mistakes. Still it is interesting to watch and the experience was fun. I was the oldest (37) of the competitors in the competition. Big thanks to Sultan Shredd for capturing and sharing this!

Hello, Eric! It was beautiful playing! And, you know, I was really surprised to saw a lot of comments of "Guitar Starz" members under videos with their perfomances!
I wish you all the best!

Hey! I've heard about this for years. I saw the Jeff Loomis footage pop in my recommended videos and was wondering if footage of Eric playing in this contest existed. Thanks for uploading!!

Jeff had actually participated in other competitions (basically "shred-offs) prior to this, so he was very relaxed. He was terrific. Back then he sounded a bit like Marty Friedman.

Nice playing, but should have plugged your guitar into the Marshall stack put it to volume 11 and went nuts.

Yes, I should have! I recall being the only one of the 15 finalists to not check out the amps (available to us) ahead of time, thinking "Oh, I will just plug into that Twin Reverb!", but some Twins sound great and some just are blaring. It depends on how they are biased and what tubes are installed. That one just blared! But really, my biggest problem was ME, since I played at least 25% too fast!
