Love this channel and you seriously deserve more subs. My SS is soon to be made and cannot wait after the wait so far and the wait to come. The price of the DS after importing is just a touch too much for my wallet. Plus I do listen to a lot of rock and EDM so I think they are the slightly preferable choice. The pleasure of being able to support such a small company with such a great product from all over the world and being part of a pretty elite group is such a thrill. I know my Burson Soloist 3x GT has the power with the SMSL D1se, but in complete contrast I have the Fiio K11 R2R coming so it will be really interesting to try the budget R2R, 3x GT and HQPlayer to tweak with.
Thanks for such a helpful video. It explained things in a way I could understand and appreciate. If 95% of my music comes under the genre of classic rock 60's - 80's which do you think will be more enjoyable? I currently have the shiit bifrost 2 and jotunheim and the mono price liquid platinum tube amp as well. Will I have enough power to make whichever you think is the better choice work? Thanks again..Bob
@bobm6942 If you want impact and intensity, then go with the SS. If you want more precision and refinement, then go DS. For 60s 80s rock, my preference would probably lean toward the SS. As for your gear, I think you're set. Jotunheim and Liquid Platinum have solid oomph.
This is a little late question for this video, but is there a noticeable difference for the driveability between the two? I know my amp at max volume is probably capable of running the ss sided based on Zeos' testing, but having a little headroom would be nice
this is exactly what im thinking. love my hd800s, but I want more personal and perhaps something better for metal and tracks that arent recorded to perfection. I think the SS is right for me.
I really like the all purple colour option of that double sided tungsten you have there :) to anyone unaware of these headphones - they are Very difficult to drive requiring researching amps that are a good match to drive these voltage demanding babies
I ordered the double sided from mimic audio on February 4th, it's like 17 weeks, their site says 20-24. I really hope that time is accurate as when I bought them, it said the wait time was less. I got both the ferrum oor and flux mentor to try.
That lead time sounds right. Last I talked to Ryan about orders he said over 20 weeks of lead time. It's worth the wait! And you are well set with power sources, bravo! I'm working on the Mentor review now.
@@MasterMarslander I compared the OOR and the mentor, the mentor is just more resolving, doesn't thicken the sound, has more stage, has more power, and with 2 of them together supposedly you start to get a tube like sound. And of course even more stage and headroom. I'm getting another mentor when I sell the OOR, and goldensound said there's a company working on a higher voltage amplifier specifically because of the evolution the Tungsten may bring, that might work better than 2 mentors.
@JohnnyADi I have the dual Mentor setup on the test bench now. It's uh... pretty dang great. But yeah, there are some really impressive looking amps on the horizon.
@@MasterMarslander not sure, as its so much better than any other headphone i've had in every category, i can't really fault it in anything. Im interested in the modhouse because i'd like something slightly different (but just as good) and because i really like what modhouse stands for.
@@kaz8297 I can't say with certainty, as I haven't heard the Empyream 2 yet, but in a nutshell the SS is more intense, focused and impactful, while the DS is more open, staging, and resolving. I'd grab the Tungsten you feel better contrasts what you experience with the Emp 2. I've only heard positive things about the Emp 2, so hopefully I'll be able to give it a listen myself sometime soon.
Unfortunately, the Hugo doesn't really have enough under the hood. They would be very quiet. The golden rule for Tungstens is an output range around 1.5W into 300 Ohms.
@@WoodstockG54 Ah! That changes things! Yes, I think it will be just fine. It will depend on your preferred hearing level, but if you stick around or under the 85db level then you should be solid.
Nice to see the channel growing!
Thanks you! Getting close to that 2k mark.

@@invisiblekid99 welcome to the club!

Good review, will buy the cans eventually........Still waiting for the
Flux lab acoustic FA10 review , please.
I'm currently working on the Mentor review, and in that video I'll discuss the FA-10 as well.

@nguyenvietlamanh5464 nearly identical. If anything, the DS is actually slightly more efficient.
As I already have the HD 800s I'm definitely leaning towards the SS Tungsten for a little more impactful listening experience. Nice Comparison!
I think it would be a great contrast!

@@atom631 Blind Guardian rips on SS.
@@atom631 If you don't have powerful amp for Tungsten, the Hifiman HE1000 Stealth V4 is very good with Hard Rock and Metal. It's a very fast headphone
@@atom631 I suggest the HiFiMan HE1000se, as it is clearly superior in almost every way, according to my tests.

One day, I'll afford these with the Dan Clark E3.

Is it hard to drive? I've found it hard to drive Hifiman XS with my setup.
@MsVibrato yes. One of the hardest to drive headphones out there. Susvara level of difficulty. You need power.

Wondering how big are the differences between the two. Would you be able to tell which one is which instantly?
Yes. Again, similar sound signature, but very different presentation.
