Jim Kerr is one of the most underrated front men all time. Now 50 years old, I adore music, I loved them in the 80's (when I was a teenager) but it is only now I am really appreciating their truly magnificent and really well produced music (New Gold Dream is just beautiful) but I now find it mind boggling how I never quite appreciated how captivating Jim Kerr is a a performer. That's something you are just born with, its not something you can teach and he just 'has it'. Their music is now ageing beautifully as good music does.
Me too! I always loved Simple Minds since the 80's but only really knew the "best of". Just the last year or two have I truly grown to appreciate their full catalog and amazing musicality.
When I was a kid in the 80s, whenever Simple Minds came on, I was glued to the television. There was something incredibly magnetic about Jim Kerr. The way he looks into the camera with those eyes. Such a fantastic singer and band. I'll always love this band. 💕
You are right mate. I saw three concert during 80s, and always a magnetic sensation was running in the air. The way they played, the way Jim moved and sang was magic.
THIS is literally my favorite song ever! When they played in Rochester NY in '86, I got my way to the front of the stage. When this song started, I was so freaking excited. During the chorus, he came to our side of the stage, crouched down and held my hand. Not sure how I didn't pass right out. 33 years later, I can remember every moment...
Yes I still like this. It feels like the weather, the climate, God, something powerful and mystical raining down! The Land The Land. Gold. Some ancient religion. Just the cover of the album. That’s IT. I still love this, 35!years later. It’s elevating and breathtaking and majestic. ECSTATIC majesty! It’s like British Isles Kings and Queens (no blondes!!!!) and the crystal lakes and droplets of rain being prizmed by the sun. No rainbows. Just the sun and the rain turning to crystal beading (Excalibur!) and the green of the land and dark sky.
If perfection exists, this song is as close to it as it gets....I loved this band when I was in school....and I still love them at 50...my favorite from SM

I traveled to England as a teenager in 1987. I took my Sanyo portable radio and cassette player to record music from the radio there. I've got the feeling that Simple Minds were really connected with something unreachable and undefinable through combative and poetic creations. They had a cast iron belief in the power of love crossing great distances of this world to reach a mysterious aim.
