I took a solo trip to Dubai and what helped me was the idea that since no one knows me there then I can be whoever and act however I want to act, and so when I got there I took it as a chance to be my best self and basically act like how I'd imagine myself at home to be like - ideal self - and the beautiful thing was that as I started to do it - like be more confident, assertive, bold & adventurous - I felt a sense of possibility that I can always do it, since really it's me being my true self, and when I got home it was normal for me to be at that higher level of confidence. I guess traveling is an opportunity for us to act like our ideal selves and so eventually - quite quickly - feel like it is natural for us, so when we get or move on, we have successfully become more of who we truly are! Awesome! Great videos Nadine, keep going! ✌

I jumped off the deep end. I threw myself last year and did a 3 month trip through Europe. It was the most exciting and memorable trip of my life. Each time I travel now I feel that fear in forms of excitement especially in the beginning and end of the trip. I almost froze at the top of Gornergrat, lost my phone in Belgium, and most importantly met the greatest people along the way creating my story.
If you are a beginning traveler it is okay to be fearful. With enough practice and time you'll adjust. Travel is different than the day to day back home because you'll always be thinking what's next, where to go, that looks delicious, and whom can I meet.

What made me more confident on my first solo trip was planning. I felt so much safer planning out my days, researching all possible transportation lines. It was great that I knew what bus or metro lines I could take and which stations are close to my accommodation so that the fear of getting lost in a big city was minimized. At the end of the day, you want to arrive "home" safe and that did the trick for me.

I solo-travel a lot. I can never match my schedule, places I want to see or budget with other people and I have almost completely given up on even trying. I agree with most of your tips, the only thing that is different for me is socialising. For me travelling solo in my own pace and doing only things I am comfortable with is the best. I am an extreme introvert so I actually prefer not to have people around me to be able to relax and recharge. I am aware that my solo travelling sounds lonely but it works for me. I started small by going to different towns within an hour to two hours away from the town I lived in when my friends kept on cancelling our plans to go together. Then I went to a different country on my own and lately to a different continent. It comes with practice and knowing what your comfort zones and limits are.

One thing I’m extremely proud to be able today when asked is that I travel alone. Ive overcome a lot of my anxiety by exploring the world. You grow in every way possible when you travel. Leaving your worst behind and picking up new and better to back back with you. You become as ever-changing as the world we live in. It’s a truly magical thing to be able to do. I’m now a subscriber

This helped so much. Not to be long winded but i finally reached my financial goal and literally have all the time in the world... but im 27 and i feel like im not who i really want to be. i was recently encouraged to start traveling now, and solo. i love traveling but always imagined it would be with others. but i realized how hindering that can be when you're pretty passive about things you want. so, i booked a flight to NYC (my birth place) and decided to see how things were since its been 13+ years since ive been back. my flight leaves in a few days and ive been so anxious about it, if i would get lonely, scared or just come off as completely clueless and this helped alot, making me realize i just have to be confident in my own ability to solve problems (which i think i can, literally just a day a go i got lost in the forest of north georgia all night and it was terrifying) and discovering my own comfort level. i dont have to do anything i dont want...

I just came back from my ever first solo traveling after watching so many videos on here and other travel TH-camrs.
And the main tip I can personally give you all for a first timer is...
    Plan. Plan is key.
Plan the days where you are traveling to and how long you are going to stay there. On the days you are staying there you don't need to plan because you can decide on the day however your travel place to place I say plan and book your acomadtion and transportation in advance. At least when you get around world you have places to sleep when you are aboard. Plus it gives your family members a peace of mind so they know that you are save. 😊
This planing made me feel in more control on what I was doing and where I was going. 😊
    Hope this helps.

So my first solo trip was Dublin for a week and I was so terrified after I booked my flight and Hostel. I joined the walking tours and did a day trip with a small travel Group. It turned out really nice and I met some great guys. At some moments I felt a bit lonely but hey thats ok, there are a lot of solo travellers out there who feel the same.

    I took a mini solo trip last year to cairn's which is a 2 hour plane ride from my home. I wanted to test the waters with solo travel, while getting to see part of my own backyard that millions travel to visit every year. It was eye opening in the sense that I learnt a lot about my self. Being very shy and having social anxiety, this really effected my trip. I suppose thats why I wanted to solo travel, because I thought it would cure me. I felt really lonely and whilst on my trip I felt like a failure because I was suppose to be having the best time of my life. However, I would still go on another solo trip because it opened my eyes in how I'm limiting myself from experiencing the most. You are so right, be confident and willing to be open. I can't wait to travel solo again and learn more about the world and myself. I won't let my fears stop me from living the life that I want. {sorry about the novel}

I did several solo trips in Central Europe when I was 18. I did a lot of free walking tours, stayed in hostels, and took the longest and cheapest bus rides. I only had one experience where an older man was pressuring me to come to his house and "meet his family", which I had to firmly reject several times before he left me alone. People were always warm and eager to help me, and I talked to and ate with a lot more people than I would have traveling alone. Definitely recommend the experience, especially if you are young (I got to go to all the museums for free because I was 18 and under!!). Pick somewhere safe, learn as much of the main spoken language of your target destination as you can, and trust yourself.

The next summer I did east Africa (not by myself) and two weeks by myself in Europe with stops at a friends or family’s house interlaced into the trip. This week i head out for a solo trip around east Africa and Zanzibar! It’s all about building confidence, whether that be your home country or a country very similar to it, before pushing yourself into a country likely to give you major culture shock on top of being alone

I went to Guatemala for a missions trip, but it was my first time traveling alone with people I barely knew. I highly recommend bringing three objects that will remind you of yourself or of home. For example: a book; a piece of clothing; photograph(s); or a note from a friend, family member, or yourself

I've travelled solo for over 30 years and my by-word is preparation. As you are planning the trip research as much as you can and you can save a lot of money and the environment won't be such a huge, intimidating surprise.

I absolutely love to travel on my own, yes it can be a bit scary and you might think that other people find it weird when you are eating alone at a restaurant but the good thing is that you can eat wherever you want! you don't have to think about someone else 's needs and you just learn so much about yourself. you will gain independency and it is so good! it widens your entire world and when you are alone you meet people easier. I have made so many friends from all over the world. So if you are doubting; just do it... don't let the fear hold you back, life is too short for that and the world is to pretty to miss out on.

I just finished my first extended solo travel! I was gone for four months and visited 15 countries. I can't wait until I do it all again with new destinations in late 2018.

I'm too big of an introvert to travel with other people so I felt comfortable doing it alone. The only thing I was nervous about was flying for the first time. I also prefer to travel alone because not everybody wants to go to the same places as me and I got tired of waiting around for somebody to go with so I just started doing it alone.

Traveled solo for the first time on my 21st birthday. To get over the fear of traveling alone I told myself it’s the same as going to the supermarket alone. My only mistake was not going to local social gatherings to interact with locals or other fellow travelers and saving my battery so lesson learned onto the next trip 🤘🏽

Great advice. The first time I travel solo, I promised myself not to do it again but at some point, it made me realize that I’m not alone after all. I feel like I’m really a strong independent woman. 😊

How do you know if your phone will work abroad? Even though I paid extra for my phone to work in Europe, it wouldn’t connect until I had WiFi. Just did my first solo trip a few hours away from home!

I live in England would people recommend and i'm 19. I'm travelling in March next year and its my first time solo travel. I'm wanting to travel for a month on a budget of 1.5k, but should I go further away to Thailand and bali or go to Norway/Iceland/berlin etc. Because i'm not sure since its my first time doing something like this and its scary, also I'm wanting to go to a mixture of nature and city (travelling between cities).

I’ve never done solo trip. I have flown to a different state (alone) and met up with friends. Maybe that’s also another way to ease yourself into traveling solo ?
